They tried to launch a comeback a year or two ago and do the festival circuit and they couldn't get booked/completely bombed. I think we'll be spared the hollabackgirl.

No, that's just something I've never heard. There were rumors about them playing Coachella which obviously didn't pan out, but I never heard it was because people were like "man, No Doubt sucks what the fuck are we thinking," though that's exactly what they should have been thinking.
Also the list of potential female headliners is basically:
Beyonce Lady Gaga
I'd throw Adele on there, as she's certainly popular enough, but I don't know if she'll play massive venues again.

It also opens up Portishead as fair game!!!! I could definitely dig that! Though I know it will never happen, that's probably the least likely Electronic act that still tours, the only comparable one I can think of is Daft Punk and they DO NOT do shows.
