I'd enjoy seeing Beyonce if she did headline and I bet it would sell tickets. Other than her, I really can't see a plausible female headliner other than a Nirvana show with a female vocalist, but I doubt that they ever do that again.
I can confidently predict I will be on the rail for this show that will never happen.
Aside from the god awfulness of Taylor Swift, I don't know who the other two are....
The problem with a female headliner, as evidence by this thread, is that right now there really isn't a female out there right now that could headline. All the serious contenders have been named and already shot down. Beyonce really is the only option. I don't really like Beyonce all that much, *ducks from rotten veggies being thrown*, but I'd definitely check out her show. Rihanna would definitely be a headliner, but I don't see her HL Roo. Gaga would certainly fit the bill, but again, can't really picture her at Roo. Those are really the only three that I can think of that actually have a shot.
I would be game for Gaga as long as she put out another album before then. I can't handle ArtPop. I could she her loving Bonnaroo and what it represents.
I saw Janet Jackson four years ago at Radio City Music Hall (NY) - she has an extensive collection of hits and she PUT ON A SHOW. Singing and dancing. I can't see her on the farm, though. I don't think Adele is a big enough star, although I'd love to see her.
Lady Gaga has attended Bonnaroo both before and after she became famous, as a fan. She already loves it. Her spectacle is 100% everything that Bonnaroo loves, as well. I think she'd be absolutely fantastic.

The other two are Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, respectively. I think they could and do play to huge country audiences, but nowhere near headlining any mixed genre festival. Miranda Lambert is good, but she is just about as popular now as she was in 2010 when she was at Roo and played one of the tents. No way she would headline. MAYBE Carrie years and years down the road if she keeps up her current path.
Gaga would kill Roo. She is perfect for a headline spot, but I also think she would be more suited for a late-night Which slot.
They keep saying
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
But now I'm falling, falling, falling

I think that Gaga's show and persona fit very well into Bonnaroo, but for me it's her music that doesn't quite mesh. I've never seen her live, so maybe her music translates better on stage? But I just can't picture myself getting into "Born This Way" on the farm. Could just be me though. In all honesty though, if it weren't for how poppy her music is, I think that she would probably be a better suited HL than Beyonce...

oh man gaga or beyonce would be so awesome. we'd never get madonna but there's a very short list of things i wouldn't do to make it happen if i could.
i don't know that she could headline but i would love to see alicia keys at roo. i can't see it but i didn't think i'd see ms. lauryn hill or ice cube either.
Yeah, Miranda Lambert's set was greatly attended, either. She was opposite Zac Brown Band, though. Didn't really stand a chance butfurther evidence that she's not yet ready to headline. She should return, though. Soon.
I think that Dixie Chicks could headline if the #1 & #2 on the line up were sstrong. (Say, Ring Stones, Foo Fighters & Dixie Chicks.)
Gaga could but is probably ideal for a Late Night Which set that would allow plenty of time to customize the stage.
With a strong new album Grace Potter and the Nocturnals could crack the top six. It would have to be much better than their last, though.

As has been said, there aren't that many female artists that could headline. Beyonce's the most realistic option, but Gaga could do it too. Both of those are a little too pop, though to make perfect sense for a festival that (to my knowledge) has only featured rock and hip hop headliners so far. I could see a pop headliner working though, especially if it were Beyonce or Justin Timberlake. Gaga makes more sense to me fourth on the lineup doing a special LN set, or maybe third in a 2009-style lineup with just two headliners (Springsteen and Phish) and a strong set of names under them.
Country is too niche a genre for a straight country artist to headline. I could see Miranda in a 4-5 slot preheadlining, but with Kendrick or someone on the Which stage at the same time.
Dixie Chicks peaked too long ago, and not at a point where they could headline Bonnaroo anyway. Could be a top eight act, though.
Taylor Swift is too poppy, unless her material grows up a bit in the next couple years -- which isn't inconceivable. She's huge, but I worry she wouldn't draw enough serious fans to play the What Stage.
Aretha and Diana Ross would make great 4-6 spots.
The most likely female headliner scenario remains Beyonce or Lady Gaga, probably 4th on the lineup in a special LN What slot. No straight-up pop artist has ever headlined Bonnaroo before, so it makes sense they'd follow a path a little similar to hip hop -- Beastie Boys and Jay-Z as secondary headliners in 2009 and 2010 before Eminem and Kanye headlined later on.

^haha. Would a typical Beyonce or Swift female fan come out and get dirty for a few days? Not sure the extended draw would be there. I think No Doubt would be cool. Lots of energy, catchy tunes, and somewhat unexpected.
I saw this on USA Today. The blurb about Burger-A-Go-Go made me think how Bonnaroo should be trying to set themselves apart.
"However, America's largest modern fests have been historically dominated by male artists and male-fronted bands – not a single female-fronted act can be found among the Coachella, Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza headliners, and since its inception in 1999 only 16% of Coachella's lineup has been fronted by women."

CMA Fest is a week before Bonnaroo. Keep these three women out of Bonnaroo's headlining possibilities.
I have to disagree. Only out of curiosity did I venture over to her set last year, and I walked right up to the rail 20 minutes after she took the stage.
Not really "getting" Bjork at the time, all I know for sure was that I wanted to see more of it and I wanted it to be dark out. Beautifully weird and so interesting. I know a lot of folks can't connect with her. But she would have been much more riveting than Jack Johnson.
Late Night? I could see our DeLuna friend headline if they come out with a good new album.

Was just thinking that last night: How could we forget Florence? With one more album, I think she'd be an incredible headliner.

At first I was all like no and then I was like, oh yeah, one more album. I think one more and she's there.
Her DeLuna show was a spectacle. Part musical, Part rock show, there were probably 20K people in that lot, yet you felt as though she was singing only for you.

I dont think any female is going to headline Bonnaroo any time soon. Madonna would probably be the only one to get a legit headliner time slot. I think even she, along with Beyonce, Gaga..and really thats the end of the possible headliners in my mind.. would all get a slot similar to Jay-Z after Stevie Wonder
