I just saw the Alabama Shakes tonight, and they played most of the new album. It was a performance for February on NPT for the Artists Den, and the new album is pretty amazing. I am not sure they would headline yet, but I am pretty sure they are about to be at Mumford'ish level soon, and maybe it would be nice for Bonnaroo to book someone in a big slot as they are blowing up instead of two years before or one after.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

Would they realistically be a pre-HL? It would be great if they got Alabama Shakes to pre-HL and then gave MMJ LN what.

It really depends on the new album I imagine, they have gone as far on a freshman album as any band I know of. That being said they played 90 minutes or so they other night and got most of both albums in there, so I cant see them holding down a huge slot yet even if the new album blows up.

i know it wasnt the best. i just wanted to make this a more current thread so we could talk about the real issue here. Fleetwood Mac needing to close the weekend.

Next year I believe that Fleetwood Mac will be a headliner at Bonnaroo. Who knows how much longer they will be touring the band with the original lineup?! The band is fronted by Stevie Nicks(female), but it's not necessarily a female headlining act.
I do believe that there just aren't enough Female greats to be a headliner at this time. Except Beyoncé, Adele, Lady Gaga, St. Vincent(someday), Janelle Monae(someday), and Florence and the Machine(yes they are good enough to headline someday). That's it, those are the only ones I can think of. You have to be diverse to take the helm of a Bonnaroo headlining spot. Also if Beyoncé can headline Glastonbury, and Bonnaroo is the closest thing to Glastonbury in the US: I can totally see her being the very first female headliner at Bonnaroo someday!

There will be a plethora of female based acts next year though, so female artists will be represented better than years past.
Fleetwood Mac Patti Smith(40th anniversary of Horses) Alanis Morissette(20th anniversary of Jagged Little Pill) Kate Nash Kate Bush Karen O Haim Jenny Lewis Lykke Li Birdy Sylvan Esso Tune-Yards Alabama Shakes Lucius San Fermin Lorde Lana Del Ray Perfect Pussy SIA
I could see all of these female acts playing on the farm next year.

I really don't consider Fleetwood Mac to be a "female headliner" or even a "female fronted band." They are a band with women in it. If anything, Lindsey Buckingham is the key member of their peak years.

totally possible. I'd see them as 4th - 6th on lineup though
I'm a huge SK fan, and I have to disagree. They are not a top 6 name. Heck, I could see them not even being top 10 with the right lineup.
so i'm not really, aware this band so just did a little lookup on spotify and seeing that their highest played track has 350,000 plays that seems extremely low for any sort of artist. i'm sure they can get bumped up on some sort of nostalgia factor, but i would say def not top 5, with the caveat that i know nothing about them. so there's that

They never had the popularity they deserved. But they were magnificent.

By no means am I against a female headliner, I just don't want them to book a female for the sake of booking a female. Fleetwood Mac or The Alabama Shakes would be fantastic to see... but I still don't know if they would even crack my top 20. It might just be me, but I feel like the music industry (especially recently) doesn't fund/promote great female artists unless they look good in a goofy costume and produce pop music. There are definitely great female artists out there, most of whom SHOULD be bigger acts than they are, but none of them would beat out other male headliner options in my opinion.
ps. I realize it is highly subjective to use my personal list of acts I would like to see as the frame of this argument, but music is subjective. What can ya do.

Rest easy, MoonshineJustice. I don't think you'll ever have to worry about Alabama Shakes headlining. As far as Fleetwood Mac goes, would Elton or Petty from the last two years have cracked your top 20 of most desired headliners? Personally, I'd choose to see Fleetwood Mac over Elton if given the choice.

Alabama Shakes don't deserve to headline. I really like them but they need a lot more time (and maybe more albums?).
I know they were hugely popular at the time (and likely still are hugely popular) but I was still surprised to see Mumford as headliner with only the two albums released.

Petty might have been further down the list, but he'd be on there. Elton wasn't on my list simply because outside of his top 5 songs, I don't care for his music. Like you, I probably would have chosen Fleetwood Mac over Elton. That being said, Elton was a great show and one of the best sing along concerts I've been to. Beyonce could potentially fall in the same category as Elton (not on my list but enjoyable performance, even though I don't care for her music)
Though now that you've forced me to think about it... it would be a lot of fun to see Missy Elliott headlining. That concert would be a blast. (not sure if that's been said)
Is there not a primary Beyoncé thread? I find that hard to believe, but I'm also not the person to start it. (I'm also on mobile and the search function sucks on mobile.)
Anyways, she's releasing a 4-disc box set. Just in time for the holidays. Figured y'all would wanna know.
