I think what the big problem is with all this is that it's time, and been time, to stop with the excuses.
We've experienced so much backlash around here for years, from the completely ridiculous and illogical to even those who may have a some merit to them, toward so many different artists that folks who just want the best out there to play Bonnaroo are done talking about the cons and the "this is why nots." We're tired of the excuses.
Horn certainly put it best: we should want the best of any genre out there, the ones who deliver the greatest live experience, or who are at the top of their game to come and perform at Roo. End of story. It's these arbitrary and completely unfounded "rules" (who the fuck really knows what AC thinks when booking? except for profit) made up by the attendees, not by the festival, and it's sad because there are some deserving, incredibly talented women out there who can take that main stage and own it.

Honestly Beyonce might just be out of Roo's price range period. You think there ain't a reason we've never had Prince or Daft Punk or the Rolling Stones play the festival? Or that we only managed to book Springsteen in a year where we had just two headliners?

I just saw this thread, didn't read the last 7 pages.... but Tina Turner would be fun, no? I don't think she'd headline but she could easily fill the Lionel Richie spot! I think it would rock...Assuming she's still got it...

This! Tina Turner leading into Beyonce with a Divas late night superjam featuring Aretha Franklin!
Bonnaroo is a fucking gold mine that keeps on giving.
Your rinse and repeat posts are making me yawn.
Ok whatever, see you all next year.
Sorry for pointing out that Bonnaroo's a business y'all, I'll go back to not giving a shit. This thread & board are toxic, half the people here are hostile for no reason and get mean over petty bullshit. Probly better if I stay away so I can get hyped for Prince/Beyonce/Daft Punk/Drake next year

Tina turner retired several years ago. Bummer I know.

What about patti smith or Joan Jett, fleetwood Mac? Just throwing some ladies out there...
Smith played in a tent last time she was there so it's unlikely that she now jumps to headliner a decade later.
I think Joan would be ideal for the Billy Idol/Alice Copper Late Night set. Maybe if she gives in and decides to join up with Lita Ford for a Runaways reunion they could PreHeadline on the basis of it being a rare show.
I had pictured Fleetwood Mac as a PreHeadliner but maybe they could be booked as a Sunday Headliner. Not a particularly strong one, though. I think that if they didn't get booked in '13 they probably won't be. (At the time the lineup dropped their tour had ended a few days before Roo. They ended up starting a new leg during the festival.)

Just my opinions.
Without McVie, maybe, but with her they are surely Sunday headliner status, also just my opinion.

I am hoping to avoid the argumentative tone that seems to permeate this community. I would like to respectfully discuss you statement that "Bonnaroo is a fv<king gold mine that keeps on giving" in a bit more detail.
Let's go outside at 90,000 tickets at $285. Ticket gross outside would be $25,650,000. But it is less than that because of the tiered pricing (this is why I left out fees, some of which go elsewhere I bet). Let's say everyone spends $50 a day on official bonnaroo merch and food and drink sold by bonnaroo and not outside vendors. I bet the average is less than that. Add $18,000,000. That's $43,650,000I. know they get sponsors and vendor fees. We also need to add VIP, RLARS, RV fees, tent rental, nd the like. I have no frame of reference for those and don't want to speculate, but to estimate total revenue I have to. I doubt it's $16,350,000. So let's say total revenue is $60,000,000, I would estimate this to be the absolute highest amount they can possibly bring in. Not bad for four days!
they book the artists before they know how many tickets are going to sell, and how much people spend on their goodies. And let's not forget the immense costs associated with a festival of this magnitude. You can bet they have a lower revenue estimate to ensure they make a profit. This lower estimate is going to be what they book artists out of.
How much of this can go feasibly go to booking? A third? This is the question we seek to answer. How much does bonnaroo have available to spend on artists? I doubt we will ever know.
I just wanted to set this down so we could get an idea of the amount of money we are talking about. It is a lot of money and they could definitely afford to get Beyoncé if they wanted to. Without a doubt.
If we had access to their balance sheet income statement (thanks jfg108) with revenues and expenditures itemized it would all make a lot of sense.
I know some of this is based on estimation on my part and I wish I had accurate figures to base this on. I welcome friendly discussion of my estimates and potential sources of revenue.

First off, a balance sheet would not list revenue and expenditures - only assets, liabilities, and equity positions. You are referring to an income statement, or P&L sheet (Profit & Loss). But that's just terminology.
If you are being serious about this, eliminate the $50 per person thing. That is clumsy. Each vendor pays a set fee based on location, and most likely a 'percentage' fee of 3-5% of revenue. Then consider merch sales direct to AC as a separate animal.
I leave the answer as an exercise for the student.

Thanks jfg108 for correcting me. It's absolutely the income statement that I was thinking of. I will edit the post. I guess you are right they probably liscense their logo and contract out the alcohol sales.

It'd be tough to come up with a good estimate of Bonnaroo's total expenses & revenue. Another big income factor is sponsorships - Ford for example probably paid the fest 6 figures. There's also a ton of organizational & administrative expenses, no end of acts to book, insurance, money to TN & coffee county, and straight up profit. Not an easy estimate. And attendees pay the fest anywhere from $300 to thousands.
The top headliner is their single biggest expense, and it's something they take very seriously. They don't sit down & say 'lol this fest's a gold mine we might as well book anybody'.
It's also not helpful or accurate to just say that Beyonce is as 'safe' a choice as Bruce Springsteen or somebody. Kanye is not as 'safe' a choice as the Foo Fighters. I'm glad Bonnaroo booked Kanye. I'm glad this festival reps more than just one genre of music.
Again, I love Beyonce, would love to see her on the farm, and think she's a possibility if she's still on tour next year.
When you look at how successful her current tour has been, it's not crazy to suggest she'd be a reach for the festival. How many of those top 15 tour artists have played Bonnaroo? I think only Springsteen, and the fest booked only two headliners that year.
It's also not crazy to take the venue, location and audience of the event into consideration. If you want to argue that point go ahead, or you could just tell me to eat shit and slam my fingers in a car door.
Oh, and Fleetwood Mac would slot 2-3 on the lineup. Would actually be a great pick alongside Beyonce - I think Beyonce/FMac/Foo Fighters makes a ton of sense
