Shiz just got reallllll. Forget the Segways. Chances are good that I'll just rent a bike for downtown riding. I'll apologize in advance for whoever I manage to run over. No worries. I'll bring extra cash if a hospital visit is involved.

My first thought when I saw the original post was "Ohhhh, is getting injured that weekend."

"We've got some very special late-night show experiences across multiple venues, including performances from Jamie xx and Omar Souleyman, to share with you soon! You ready? ?#?BigEarsKnox?"
A Jamie xx LN? Time for Phyre Fest to get boned up.

Big Ears draws nigh with just a little over a month left before the festival, so it's time to start planning accordingly! Stay tuned next week to our newsletter and website for the full schedule announcement, including the dates and times of the artists who'll be joining us as well as details on a limited number of daily tickets that will be available on Friday, February 20.

That moment that real life happens and I can't see everything that I want to.
That moment that real life happens and I can't see everything that I want to.
There isn't an act I wouldn't like to see on the lineup. If the math is something like 20/38 then I definitely want to see:
Kronos Quartet (with guests) Terry Riley Tyondai Braxton Max Richter Swans Ben Frost Bryce Dessner The Bad Plus Bill Frisell Perfume Genius Grouper Demdike Stare Omar Souleyman A Winged Victory for the Sullen Harold Budd & Keith Lowe William Tyler Jozef Van Wissem Bing & Ruth Hildur Guðnadóttir Jamie xx
Of course we'll see what the schedule thinks about that.

I've had to break it down to "Can't Miss" and "That Would Be Awesome" lists.
Can't Miss: Swans AWVFTS Laurie Anderson Loscil Steve Gunn Ryley Walker Perfume Genius Max Richter
That Would Be Awesome: Literally, everything else. The only show I can think of that I won't be at would be Omar (and that's just because I've seen him so many times).
E: They also linked that first song from the Steve Gunn/Black Twig Pickers album. If that happened as a secret show, I'm gonna flip out. That may be my most wanted add right now (and makes the most sense).

Looks like Scruffy City Hall is out as a venue this year as they announced their own side festival today. At least, it gives me another outlet to see Yak Strangler.
"In honor of this love affair between Planet Earth and Scruffy City, introducing:
the Funny Ears Fringe Festival !
Big Ears Festival has been an awesome event in Downtown Knoxville, introducing us to avant garde music and the world to lovely friendly Knoxville, Tennessee..
It's a fringe showcase for all our international visitors-- "fringe" in avant garde music's case of course means... lots of local ROCK n ROLL!
The first things that come to mind that I know have been music related before are
Ironwood Studios and The International
The Big Ears app has "The Standard" listed under Schedule>Where
Nice. It's a newer venue. The Felice Brothers show I went to last year was supposed to be there, but they couldn't get their beer permit unfucked in time.
Ouch. i was thinking that it would be tomorrow till the weather hit and then I was thinking later in the week. Glad it's tomorrow, of course. It'll give me something to do till it thaws.
Looks like we'll be getting the schedule tomorrow instead. That's disappointing but understandable. I've got the day off due to all the ice, and I'm about 90 miles south of Knoxville.

Knoxville is pretty locked down right now. It's possible to drive in the city from what I see on social media, but there's also been multiple accidents and fatalities. My work closed the office for today, and a friend of mine posted that his office closed for weather today for the first time in the four years he has worked there.

Not surprised at all but it sucks. I was hoping for something to make today not be terrible..
Of course the psych hospitals don't close so here I am at work...

I feel your pain on that. I worked a 28 hour shift at the rehab once when it snowed. I got four whole hours of sleep when the patients were sleeping. It was great.

Hey y'all! I was at the Tomato Head on Sunday and they have in Big Ears pint glasses. The proceeds go to The Joy of Music. It's a great restaurant, the same place we had brunch last year and a great cause. Also, there is a picture of a hare on the glass. I'm thinking we need bunny ears.
