See, it just feels like you're DYING to believe some conspiracy theory. Sorry you don't agree. Oh, it doesn't make it a fact just because you say it is.
Lol; wonder if they'll allow mother's milk through the gates...
Anyways, I scoured the FireFly Facebook page and MikeG replied to one of the comments re: the water situation:
"There was free water at the refill stations, but yes the organizers are absolutely aware of the lines and are working to have sufficient free water."
Considering the amount of unhappy comments/ complaints, that's not exactly the formal apology I was expecting to see, nor does it address the issue with a concrete answer (eg. "There will be 6 water stations next year... because we care about you not dying at our fest.")
On the plus side, this whole debacle makes my 2016 fest decisions much easier (the longest I've ever waited for water at Coachella, 'Roo or Osheaga was about 10 minutes lol).
Just an FYI, any statement I make shouldn't really be considered the "official" statement, but I'm happy to address the question based on what I know, if you guys want....
WATER LINES - Yep, they sucked. Back in 2012, I can remember never having to wait one time for a water refill and I'm completely aware that it's gotten progressively worse since then. The festival has grown and they did not calculate the demand properly. Is it any more simple than that? I know there remains the normal conspiracy theory that it is in an effort to sell more bottled water, but it's just not true. The truth ain't always as sexy as a nice juicy conspiracy theory, but that's what it is.
SHUTTLE SERVICE - Hate to sound like a broken record, but this being the first year of it, the logistics just were not figured out fully.
MUD - This is the big one. No one wants to believe that the rain and mud had an impact on their festival experience and that all the other mishaps this year had nothing to do with the mud, but they absolutely did. I don't make excuses, but speaking from a logistics view, dealing with the mud from Wednesday's rain and then with the evacuation on Saturday ABSOLUTELY affected how well operations could deliver on their tasks. Cleanup all night long on Thurs night took away valuable resources that impacted other areas of operations for the rest of the weekend.
The festival has more than tripled in four years. These growth years are necessary to achieve just the right "formula" for consistency. Maintaining that consistency during those years is very difficult, but we're trying. No one at Firefly or Red Frog is sweeping anything under the rug, but they are definitely focusing on the future. You guys are lucky and unlucky at the same time to be seeing this process.
That said, I'm glad I got a chance to meet a whole mess of people this year and I'm here if you need anything.
Mike, let me start off by saying that you seem to be a genuinely nice, well-intentioned person. I appreciate everything you do for this festival and its fans, especially all the time you sacrifice. That being said, you really need to remove your head from Red Frog's ass and stop making ridiculous excuses every time this festival screws up. While I agree that certain issues (e.g., the weather) will always be outside the festival's control, there were many issues that this festival could have easily avoided. This was the 4th year for Firefly, and I got the impression that it was far less organized than in past years. Yes, growing pains should be expected for a festival that triples in size in a matter of a few years. However, the fact that Red Frog was clearly unprepared to run a 90,000-person festival without constant hiccups and organizational problems demonstrates that their decision to prioritize growth and revenue was very shortsighted. A general rule-of-thumb for any endeavor in life is to not bite off more than you can chew. It seems like this festival is learning that lesson the hard way.
As for your comment about the water lines, you can't be serious, can you? Even a mathematically challenged individual can tell you that if you increase attendance by 50%, the demand for water will rise substantially. There is no legitimate excuse for reducing the number of water stations while the attendance has increased from 60,000 people to 90,000 people between 2013 and 2015. If the organizers didn't think the demand for water would increase with that growth in attendance, they shouldn't be running this business. The only sensible explanations are: a) limiting the number of water stations is a way to keep costs down, or b) limiting the number of water stations will create long lines and therefore persuade people to purchase more water bottles. Mike, I know you love this festival and pour your heart into it on a daily basis, but you have to remember that in the end, this is a business whose primary objective is to make as much profit as possible. Even if that means fooling around with something as important as hydration. When I left this year, I had a sour taste in my mouth that every decision this festival makes is always about the money first, whereas the quality of the festival experience is a distant second.
Gotta be a conspiracy theorist to believe RedFrog realized 3 water stations was insufficient for 90k people.....after being told so, loudly, repeatedly, through a variety of media, for years. LOL.
Look conspiracy or not, it is utterly ridicoulous that Firefly, Red Frog, or whoever makes this decision fucked up. AGAIN!!! Bonnaroo has 80k attendees which is less than Firefly's at 90k. However Bonnaroo has 7 water refill stations, while Firefly employs 3. Bonnaroos main stage has 3 water refill stations by itself. So Bonnaroo thinks hey my mainstage will hold at least 60k people let me put 3 water refill stations to handle hydrating my clients. Firefly says Im gonna put 3 stations out while only advertising 2 stations and I will put one of them at my smallest stages. Also Im not gonna let FACTORY SEALED water bottles inside so that I can sell FACTORY SEALED water for $4. Firefly knew last year that water stations where a problem in 2014 so the right decision to make as an up and coming festival, with aspirations of reaching Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lolla status, is to... wait for it... do the same shit as last year. What is it going to take for Firefly to realize they need a minimum of 6 stations?
Well, I appreciate you recognizing that I do work hard and have a very sincere devotion to the fest AND it's fans. My only contention is that people seem to think I just blindly stick up for the fest at every turn, regardless of the situation. It's just not true. I have voiced strong criticisms of the fest in the past, but unless you're following every single one of my posts on every single medium of social media, I can see where that might be hard to see. My job is to be out among the fans gaging their interests and concerns and I definitely put myself in harm's way more than a reactive customer service rep on a phone somewhere. Am I perfect at my job? No, but who really is? All I can do is try harder.
I had a half drunk attendee show up at my tent Sunday night with a slurred speech about how to better handle evacuation practices. All I could do is listen and I'll keep doing that.

Thanks, Mike. To be clear, we're not blaming you for our frustrations. The blame for these issues lies 100% at the hands of the festival organizers. I just think that you give Red Frog the benefit of the doubt far too often, even when no defense is justified.
It's not the benefit of the doubt though. I'm going on what I'm told. If you're saying I'm not able to tell when I'm being lied to, well then I'll take that criticism. And no, I never took it as you blaming me personally. It would be silly for me to think that.

Mike- I'll start by saying that it's commendable that you're even making an appearance on this forum knowing that you're probably gonna catch some heat (even though it's just the internet and it's a lot easier to "face" people here than in person). Good on you for having some balls, at least more so than anyone else at Redfrog.
Here's the thing though; as the fan AMBASSADOR, I think your responsibility DOES involve more than just listening. Like, if you don't have the ability to influence any of the decision-making, why even bother fielding comments/ complaints?
To me, your current role as fan ambassador seems like a convenient way for RedFrog to say that they care about their fans (because "hey, we LISTEN"), while simultaneously doing nothing about their concerns. It's a front. A smokescreen. And for you to either be complacent with that (by claiming that you "only know what you're told"), or to not get anything done (a la 3 water stations for 90,000 people) is irresponsible.
My friends and I have contemplated going to Firefly for years, but it's that type of irresponsible "don't look at me, I just work here" approach that will keep us away. Maybe 2017 will be the year.

I really wish I could use excuses in my job the way MikeG does for Red Frog/FF...
With that being said I think I saw in total 25 different shows and they all exceeded my expectations except maybe 2 (Kid Cudi & Bad Suns).
EOTS was hands down my favorite act I saw all weekend. The energy level was amazing throughout the crowd and it felt like one giant party. Had so much fun there and it was an incredible experience to be a part of.
Gary Clark Jr. was also one of my favorites. I knew going in he would blow me away, but seeing him in person and seeing first hand how much soul he has deep down was gravitating.
There's a good chance I'll be back for FF2016, simply because of the proximity...but I really hope my crew considers a different festival. I just can't fathom how unorganized this festival is. They knew 90K people were coming this year, yet they didn't prepare for it. This was year 4, stop acting like you are a new festival. Knowing how to scale to meet demand shouldn't be an issue, unless you are unwilling to invest in your own festival.

The Pavilion was the largest stage to get a water station and you basically had to walk through the tent to get there. The other 2 were at the Forest/Beercade and Coffee house. You had no easy access to water other than $4 bottles if you were at the Lawn, Backyard or Main stage. No biggie, just the 3 largest stages at the entire festival.

Man this fest must have really sucked for yall to be going on like this. Glad I never won one of those numerous tickets they were throwing away for their fuck ups before the fest.
At least there's always kings of Leon for next year guys.

Why would you say something like that I want Muse or the Gorillaz

I wouldn't say the fest sucked at all. I had an amazing time, but only because of the incredible music, people I was with, and relaxed vibes...I just wish the things like an adequate amount of water stations, a transportation system that runs when they say it will, campsites being the size they are advertised at, etc. were taken care of.
Also, it's just embarrassing that their staff has no clue what is going on. Just very piss poor communication.

If they could do anything for next year it would be to put a water station where the Toms thing is and make it double the size of the current water stations.

Man this thread took a turn. It doesn't matter how you spin it, RedFrog got the water situation wrong. We all saw it coming, you have to believe they saw it simply as a cost reducing opportunity. They can't be that naïve to think a situation already voiced as a problem would be any better with 10k extra people. Perhaps like someone said before they saw it as a way to get suckers like me to upgrade to VIP.
I had fun at the festival dont get me wrong. It was only due to the music and the people I brought with me. Our neighbors were pure entertainment! The water issue, the bro vibe and the rudeness of festival goers just turned me off to this festival. It sucks cause its half the driving distance of Roo and we had a good time last year. A stellar lineup next year might bring me back. Might!

That would make sense except then how in the world are you going to get a pair of painted shoes for $$?
I for one personally blame MikeG for both the weather and water aituation.
I blame him for constantly posting dumb and ignorant shit before, during, and after the fest. My favorite excuse is that they weren't ready for 90,000 people. Ok, don't sell 90,000 passes then. To be so insistent on the fest "working out" and then to have what happened is ridiculous. It was 10 thousand people more this year, they didn't double attendance, so why was their only half the amount of basic festival amenities? That's not Mike G's own fault, but after insisting everything was going as planned and would be all good, it wasn't. Now you want to come in here like small mistakes were made when they were actually huge mistakes and avoidable. That and your posts on artists during the fest were that of a high school aged twat.
See, it just feels like you're DYING to believe some conspiracy theory. Sorry you don't agree. Oh, it doesn't make it a fact just because you say it is.
I hope you don't get paid to be Firefly's PR goon. In fact, I hope Firefly has no knowledge that you're running around doing this, because you're a complete imbecile.
8. Bear Hands (Treehouse set): This was more about the great venue than the performance. However, I really enjoyed my time at this set. "Giants" is a great tune. 7. Citizen Cope: I was pretty exhausted from the weekend at this point due to the walking, dancing, drinking, stressing over the KOL cancellation, etc. Citizen Cope's set was a great chill break helping me reset for the best "bang, bang, bang" of the fest (EOTS-Killers-Chainsmokers). Sidenote- Snoop starting over the end of Citizen Cope's set was fucked up. I watched Snoop's beginning and I get it was good, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. 6. Spoon: They were great, but I secretly wanted them to be a little better. I hear they were missing instruments. All in all, I still had a great time. Daniel's voice is otherworldly. 5. Zedd: This was unexpected for me. Paul wasn't all I hoped, and Zedd just murdered it after that letdown. The group participation on the glow stick throw was pretty cool. 4. Chainsmokers: I started dancing and didn't stop until I was back at the campsite. Really fun set to end the fest. 3. Modest Mouse: "Dramamine" sold me on this set. I love all their stuff and Brock just hit it out of the park. 2. The Killers: I almost left after EOTS, but my friends convinced me to stay. I used to love The Killers, but didn't really care about them anymore and wasn't feeling the need to see them. Damn, I was wrong. Them covering "The Bucket" was a classic moment for me. I had a great time. 1. Empire of the Sun: I missed "We are the People" due to Snoop. I thought I'd miss too much. I didn't. The minute I got to the stage I was nonstop dancing. Their stage show is weird, fun, and engaging. I had the most fun of the whole fest during this set.
End notes: Food sucks, evacuation sucked, water situation sucks (I stopped bringing my bladder pack in). Don't know if I'd do it again, but there was some great music.
The real debauchery here is how Paul isn't in this person's top 8. A let down?

Yeah, I don't want to live in a world where people think that acts like The fucking Chainsmokers put on better sets than Sir Paul McCartney.

I'm still bummed I had to miss like 75% of Paul's set. At that it was the ending 75%. Next time he is on tour on the East Coast I am going, no questions asked.
The real debauchery here is how Paul isn't in this person's top 8. A let down?

The festival is done, get over it man! I've sat here reading your BS posts for 3 months and it's the same BS over and over. Are you expecting anything from your negative posts? What exactly are you looking for? We all get it, you didn't like how the festival was run. Guess what? Nobody cares. Yes, there were issues with lineups and whatnot but get over it man. In the end it's all about the music. People are there to see their favorite bands and from what I've read the majority of attendees had a blast this year. The festival is what it is. Once you're there it shouldn't matter, just embrace everything and take it for what it is. Did the rain suck, yes. Did the long lineups for water suck, yes. Did all the mud suck, yes. But WHO CARES! You're at Firefly Music Festival, something we've all been waiting the whole year for. Have a good time and just embrace and take it all in. There's nothing we can do about it once we are there so just accept it. You clearly couldn't do that and you let everything bring you down. I feel bad for you.
I'm not gonna write out a detailed list of complaints because it will just be repeating what others have already said. The thing is, I had a really fucking fun time because I was with an amazing group and planned my time well so that I made it to nearly all the shows I really wanted to see (uhhh okay except a couple of those 12:30 pm shows - it isn't that early at all but was still hard as hell to get everyone rounded up by then haha), and I had good luck with snagging really solid spots for the most part, etc. etc. But all of those are self-made/within-the-bounds-of-my-group reasons for how much fun I had. As a festival? Yeah, it is poorly run. The water situation was absurd, though I did find that there was often a much shorter line for the slightly warmer water spigots to the right side of the Coffeehouse station, so I opted for those most of the time and didn't wait that much more than 10 minutes ever. I guess I timed it well, too. The crowd is young as fuck - and act like it. Just walking around seeing sooooo many fucked up dehydrated people really brought me down at times because it made me worry for those people. Doesn't help knowing that apparently the medic tents were a joke. My friend and I who both went to Roo last year were genuinely so perplexed on Thursday as we walked around and saw no one dancing around freely/weirdly and no one giving random hugs or many high fives. He was like "I mean, I'm just gonna start running around and dancing in the field, despite the fact that no one else is." So that's what we did. The vibes are meh (except for a few shows - Glass Animals and Kygo come to mind as shows where I looked around and everyone looked pretty with it and smiling and engaged with others around them) - but then my friends and I just decided to focus on each other and be as weird as we want and go with that. So we had an awesome time. But would I recommend this festival to someone who asked me to suggest a well-organized, good vibes festival? Absolutely not.
Point is: yes, a lot of us had fun. I certainly did. But it was by my own making, much less by way of RedFrog doing things right. Also I guess it helped that I found the mud to be super fun, not a hindrance at all, haha. And unless they score an INCREDIBLE lineup next year, I will not be returning. Roo gets my money in 2016.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Yeah, I don't want to live in a world where people think that acts like The fucking Chainsmokers put on better sets than Sir Paul McCartney.

Dude, what the actual fuck is your problem? Why are you so obsessed about what I post here? You keep trying to perform this bullshit psychoanalytical evaluation of me, and you don't know anything about me. Yes, I have voiced complaints about the lineup, security, and the organization of the festival. Is there some unwritten rule of Inforoo that I'm not aware of that prohibits me from voicing complaints? Whether you agree with me or not, these complaints are valid criticisms that many other people share. In fact, many others here have expressed frequent complaints about Firefly over the last few months. So why is that you constantly single me out? Could it be that I made you look like an ass for expressing stupid and uniformed opinions when you first joined, and these are your pathetic attempts at revenge? I'm sorry that I don't think everything about Firefly is always rainbows and unicorns. Either deal with it, block my posts, or get the fuck out. As it is, the only times you actually post on here are to launch personal attacks at me.
On another note, it's fairly obvious that you don't actually read through my posts. In discussing my festival experience, I never once complained about the weather or the mud. I also said that I enjoyed the musical performances, as well as spending a long weekend with close friends. The only things I complained about are the same things that nearly every other person here has voiced complaints about - the water situation, the poor organization, and the actions of other attendees. If you're not going to rag on others for expressing similar opinions, it's pretty obvious that you're just using this as an opportunity to take a swipe at me because of personal dislike.
But would I recommend this festival to someone who asked me to suggest a well-organized, good vibes festival? Absolutely not.
The vibe of this festival is more like we're going to a day-long concert, but then we sleep where we tailgate and do it again x3.
I had fun - I loved Sunday. Saturday was just starting to get really good when it got canceled. Friday I saw a Beatle. All of those things were great and as the BS fades into time - what I'll remember about it.
