George Ezra folkies.. as some say in RI.. whaddayathink? The faker thing i mentioned to k2b.. one off.. 'forgettaboutit'. Ezra? Think he has a sound like Phil Phillips without the idol stain. Its very catchy.
Holy heck fawn. I've been listening to George Ezra all day thanks to you. Def. hear the Phil Phillips reference! (I kind of like PP's music; no shame!)

Ezra has really been catching my ear more and more and I liked the first listen. Expect he will be on the circuit next year. There' another one.. no doubt the collective you can fix this when i dont recall right... Boy and Bear?? The cut starts with a rif that i think was borrowed from something familiar of old - maybe Fleetwood?
anywhoo had a few minutes to stop out her to check in.. happy to find more finds for you K2b.

George Ezra will probably make it there. I'm really looking forward to seeing him open for Hozier in March!
In terms of Father John Misty, his 2013 was amazing, but he didn't really seem to be enjoying it hahah. And I don't know if they'll want him back after he 'trashed' the stage...
I really hope Bear's Den are back next year. I didn't know them at the time last year, but I can't stop listening to their album now.
I would really like to see black rebel motorcycle club play and acoustic set in newport next year
This has me most curious and most go listen JJB. Not exactly a name you'd expect to see on the NFF list. But its a name...
Did you get down to see Puss N boots at the Met?
I'm willing to guess i would be in the minority in wanting them there but i always loved there stuff stripped down especially when robert starts playing piano. I did not get to see puss n boots cause i was stuck at work, lame.
What about The Staves produced by Justin Vernon? They have a new album out and the little of it I've heard sounds great. I loved Father John Misty in 2013 and wondered how much of his stage shenanigans were an act.Would love to see him again too. K2B had a link at one point to a short music film I think it was "Lost Among the Stars"--- Johnny Cash music done by different musicians. Still watch it at least once a week. Father John Misty is one of my favorite parts of it.

From other times I've seen him, my feeling is that his shenanigans are meant to be provocative in a humorous way. It's just a matter of who is in on the joke. I think a lot of the things he says, he at least partially believes, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. On his mini solo tour last fall his opener was a comedian. And that video is fantastic. Love the Local Natives one too. But I just find FJM's voice so entrancing
Saw The New Pornographers last night-- what a fantastic show. Each member is so incredibly talented. I would be very happy to see them collectively at Newport or separately. I have a new crush on Daniel Bejar--second coolest person on stage( no one can be cooler than Neko)
So I guess Hozier is blowing up now, eh? NFF better lock him down for next year or he'll come at a hefty price.
Not sure if I'll be able to make it back to Newport next summer I may be at a conference in San Fran that ends on the Friday of NFF. But I may try to get out a day early and have my flight itinerary take me to Providence! (The only good news is that Bonnaroo weekend is open for me for the first time in a few years so I may switch back to Bonnaroo this summer and see most of you on the farm! Toronto Urban Roots Festival had a pretty killer folky lineup last year and I could try to make that work if they repeat).
Also, The Districts need to be at Newport next year. I know I talked about them earlier, but man their music is so much fun. The Districts -> Houndmouth -> The Felice Brothers would be an awesome sequence of backcountry garage folk rock.

In this Twin Forks video, is that Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia) playing the lead character? (I know he was an actor in Friday Night Lights before starting his music career, so it makes sense)
And this one picks up where the other one left off
Also, if you like the Lumineers and/or Dashboard Confessional and have never heard of Twin Forks, I suggest you check out the above vids.

Here you go Fawn. I'd be willing to bet a festival beer that this guy is the next big "folk" (eh, more akin to the "folk" of Hozier) act. I hope he makes the lineup because his music is great.

You beat me too it M! Cant wait to check out more. Heard him a few times on spectrum the last week or three and really interested to hear more. Now about that flight from CA to Ri in July. make it happen! We'll make sure someone gets you from the airport and back.
Has anyone posted the initial Floydfest lineup yet? There's usually some overlap between the two fests.
Drive-by Truckers Leftover Salmon Lord Huron Keller Williams' Grateful Grass The Chris Robinson Brotherhood Shovels & Rope Greensky Bluegrass Keller Williams Sam Bush Band Trigger Hippy The Devil Makes Three Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds American Aquarium Folk Soul Revival
Out of that list, I would say Drive-By Truckers, Lord Huron, and Trigger Hippy are the most likely (maybe Greensky Bluegrass and Sister Sparrow). A lot of the others have played Newport recently or are a little less "hip" than what Newport usually tries to book (but doesn't rule any of them out. Sam Bush could be one of the "throwback" artists that Newport likes to book).

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I was listening to the radio a few days ago and heard the DJ go, "and that was the new one from Hozier!" after playing Take Me To Church. Excuse me?
Also, fawnmart, who did you play? My Adobe crashes left and right (I've tried to update it multiple times), so I can't see videos right now.
Bonz.. i quoted Mark's post. Check that dude out.
It may be a dream say it.... on the thanksgiving trip down to our 'family farm' Paul Simon .. We both said at the same time maybe, pause, we hope the fabulous Katy Mae called it. He has got to be one of the 6 white elephants left on the list.

No name? Or is it the same guy as the one before?
It's James Bay doing a tune called Hold Back The River

I always hate radio DJs introducing a song that was released on an album a year before a "new song" just because it was recently released as a single. But what you described is even worse. That song has been playing on radio since the summer and even on pop radio most of the fall.
They recently posted on Facebook a picture of Leonard Cohen playing Newport with a caption that mentioned how most people are not aware he got a big start by playing NFF.
