The article's date isn't too big of a deal. The Shakey Graves' article I randomly found last year by Googling "Shakey Graves Newport Folk" was from January 2014. And I think the article that quacker found last year about Devil Makes Three was written before the lineup even started to be released.
But in rereading it, I do think that they are specifically talking about OCMS.
I haven't had any luck Googling any names this year (I was kind of excited because I thought I had a breakthrough with this one)

I thought that I was the only one to google names all day. Glad to see I'm not the only one lol!
I asked Newport about the irregularity of announcements and this was their response:
The artists themselves are dictating when they want/can be announced. We are following their lead in most cases.
This doesn't explain the lack of organization though. They have went days after making an announcement before updating the website. I don't buy this statement.

Yea, it feels like in previous years the rolling announcements were clearly one every day or something like that. Maybe I remember wrong but I thought it was pretty organized in past years.
What this ultimately comes down to is the fact that this festival is sold out! I will never forget the post that NEWPORT made the moment the festival was completely sold out last year. They made a post along pretty much saying that announcements will be slower going forward. I wish I still had the screenshot
They are also hurting fans who want to buy tickets through the resale market. If the headliners are announced late June/early July, then at the point ticket prices would be starting to fall, they'll be kept high by the lineup announcements.
I'm pretty sure this was more of a coincidence. At this point all acts that could be announced, were announced, and it was the fact that the lineup was out there and Ryan Adams was on it that triggered the sell out.
I guess today's band is referred to as "Traveller"
Yeah I saw that. Not much on Google I can find, must be a new project. I'll be bummed if this is it and Ellis doesn't gert his own set too!
They talked about it on the Podcast - composed of Ellis, Fritz, and another guy (sorry I don't remember who). They were lallygagging along about getting a name and whatnot, but they knew they had to get serious when the offer came from NFF.

Cory Chisel is the other guy and he is a very talented singer/songwriter. I don't know much about Ellis but Fritz/Chisel is a strange pairing to me.

Yea, that was his big hit at the time that I saw him. Worked with Brendan Benson of the Raconteurs for that (is he in the video? I feel like he is but haven't seen it in a bit).
