One of these people is my source. I've already said to much. I don't want to betray their trust.
George Ezra was on SNL last night. Somehow I've ignored all of the mentions of him in this thread but I've now joined the club. Let's hope Newport has as well.

Joy Williams is releasing her first solo single in a couple minutes. I could see her being announced. I was surprised she wasn't on any other fest lineups this year
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

The XPoNential Music Festival (WXPN-Philly) is being announced tomorrow. St. Vincent and MMJ announced already. I've noticed similarities between their lineup and NFF in years past. (Lord Huron announced this morning) xpnfest.org/
I just want to clarify a point. There are NO night shows at Newport Folk Festival. When you leave it is just getting dark and it is about 9:15 at the latest. As many have pointed out there are two aftershow venues in "downtown" Newport that are separate from NFF but feature the artists that have been playing at the fest. Wilco never played an aftershow in Newport. But they were the first band to play a Friday evening show at NFF because before that NFF was only Saturday and Sunday. That year there were only 3 shows on Friday all at the Fort (main) Stage. Since that year the Friday schedule has increased to be almost a full day with all stages being used but it still ends before sunset.
Deer Tick kicked off the tradition of aftershows at the Newport Blues Cafe and has hosted them there for several years now and yeah they are sweaty, intimate and great (if you are into that thing). I went with my daughter and saw the Middle Brother reunion along with Sharon Van Etten and I could have put a foot on the stage if I wanted to. If you are skeeved by close body contact and annoyed at fighting for 20 minutes to get the bartender's attention don't go.
Jane Pickens is an actual movie theater that plays artsy type films so it's also a smaller venue. I haven't been to an aftershow there but it is obviously a more subdued show. Kind of perfect for a band like Milk Carton Kids. I would love to see an aftershow there and will if one of my favorite artists ends up there.
Thanks quacker, that clarifies things even further for me.
Calexico also have collaborations with Sam Beam and Ben Bridwell on their new album, so if we get that pairing like Osheaga did, I'm sure we'd get some great stuff. Also a collaboration with Gaby Moreno, who I mentioned earlier in this thread. And they have that Dylan cover with Jim James.
Also the Decemberists just announced they're playing Burlington the week after Newport (7/30)...
Unfortunately Decemberists are playing Wayhome in Canada Newport weekend (Facebook says the 24th) and Cooperstown (w/ Lucius) the 26th.
I'm hoping the fact that they have such a big connection to Newport will convince them to make it to the Fort for the 25th (and maybe bring Lucius back with them). Also, would they still be considered a headliner? I think I could see Friday but not Saturday, not that it really makes a difference.
Well this is interesting. Dawes is announced for Friday of Xponential Fest. I remember last year they said that they wanted to be at Newport for all 3 days this year (they were sad that they were on tour with Conor and had to miss some of NFF). At the very least, no Friday night after show (was Basement Tapes still a possibility for Friday? If so, I think this rules that out too).
Bombino is at Xponential Fest on Sunday (what other days that weekend is he already booked?)
Lord Huron would need to be booked for Sunday (Friday at Floydfest, Saturday at Xponential Fest). But their tour dates look good right now.

Yup, Friday was the only chance. What a fail on Newport with that one.

I'm crushed hearing this. I really thought New Basement Tapes was a lock for NFF. But there's still hope for MMJ, right?!

Yeah, Decemberists could do the 24th at Wayhome, 25th at Newport, then 26th in Cooperstown I suppose. Oh lawdy, I hope they play. They were so ridiculously amazing last night!

I'm seeing them next Monday. Crazy excited although I wish their setlists had more from King is Dead. It's tough with a band that has such a deep discography.

Yeah, that's my favourite album of theirs. I was insanely happy with the setlist from the show last night. I looked at that list of 40 or so songs they prepared for the tour after the show (I hate spoiling a setlist), and I got most of what I wanted. Hearing all of Crane Wife will be something I'll remember for the rest of my life
