I feel that the whole announcement process ended very weak. How do you end announcements with 2 museum acts? Unless they plan to announce some of the 65 revisited acts to end it off. Very odd!
Getting a few names but not all of them would be pretty cool.

That was my thought too. Talk about ending without a bang (especially after last year).
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
And on top of that, they made us wait 3 weeks without any kind of artist announcement, to go back to back with museum artists that most don't care about lol
It seems like they scaled down the announcements this year. They lasted longer. They were announced inconsistently. There were no introductions written to accompany each announcement. They did not always get added to the website and lineup right away. And they kind of fizzled out with no comment by NFF (last year NFF was generous to tell us that the lineup was mostly complete when the announcements stopped).

Definitely felt more unorganized and less thought out this year. Some days I would check here and not see names announced and some days there'd be a few I missed. Hope next year they can plan it out a bit better.

i'm still on board with no announcements at all and just showing up but i count 23 acts i would try to see but realistically will only see half of that because i don't really stage hop much. hopefully a couple of them will play the blues cafe to help out.

I want the lineup at least a week in advance. I'm sure I'd love a lot of the acts anyway if it happened like you describe but I love doing homework on the names I'm not so familiar with.
I'd be fine with a completely unannounced lineup, I'd be fine with unannounced headliners, I'd be fine with a full lineup drop the week before, but the poor management of the announcements this year was off-putting. Last year it was done fantastically. Regular days and cool introductions from a range of people.
On the quality of the lineup this year, there are a lot of artists that I've seen before, and a fair amount I've seen this year.
Going through artists I'm really interested in (shit, this is going to be long, sorry), here are my thoughts:
Roger Waters - Incredibly excited about this set. I'm a huge Floyd fan, saw him when he did the Wall tour and am very interested in what he brings to Newport (hopefully one of those things is a certain band from Louisville, KY)
Tallest Man On Earth - Never seen him, and while I would have loved to see him without a band, I still think he'll be great and I've been enjoying the new album
Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell - This should be really cool. I'm glad they have a couple shows before Newport so I can see what the setlists will look like. The Talking Heads cover is fantastic.
Watkins Family Hour - Worried this will conflict with something else I want to see, but if not I'll be there. A really cool bunch of musicians, and I'm sure there's the possibility for more guests. I'd also love for some of these musicians to pop up in other sets throughout the weekend, and that Highway 61 Revisited thing gives me hope for some good stuff during the '65 Revisited set.
The Lone Bellow - Seen these guys a bunch and love 'em to death, but they're another act I'm worried might conflict with something I won't see again. They're playing in NYC in the fall and at Landmark fest in DC which I'll be going to, so I won't be too heartbroken if I miss them, although seeing them at Newport would be something else. Ugh, I just want to know the schedule!
Strand of Oaks - love his most recent album and have heard fantastic reviews of his performances (did anyone see him at 'Roo), so hopefully I'll get to see him
Angel Olsen - Love me some angry, heartbroken freak-folk! Haven't had the chance to see her yet and been a fan since her last album came out
Hiss Golden Messenger - Love Lateness of Dancers, and his Bonnaroo set really blew me away. Folk music on record, but much more jammy live. Excited to see him again
The Decemberists - I saw them in NYC earlier this year and they were great. They just have such a fucking solid discography. I'm hoping for a slightly different setlist because they just have so much I want to hear live. All of The Crane Wife, some stuff off The King Is Dead, and "Lake Song" would all make me very happy
Sufjan Stevens - Genius booking. It took me until this year to take the time to dig into Sufjan's discography but I've become quite the fan. Carrie and Lowell is such a fantastic album, hopefully no other bands drown him out while he kicks ass in his own quiet way
Jason Isbell/Brandi Carlile - Seen both of them a couple of times and they always deliver. Two of the most compelling songwriters in modern Americana, with killer musical chops to back them up. They'd be great back to back main stage sets
Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn - missed them at Roo because I knew I could see them blow me away at Newport. Hopefully the scheduling gods won't prevent that from happening
Courtney Barnett - One of the top 3 shows I've seen this year was her Sinclair show in May. God damn. I'm interested to see if she will change anything for Newport or just blast us with some of the best-written rock music of the year. Either way, I'll be there
'65 Revisited - As I think I said when this was first announced, this is the best possible way they could have chosen to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. There are so many excellent possibilities and I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but I definitely have my own hopes for this.
First Aid Kit - Stay Gold was one of my favorite albums of last year, but they only time I got to see them was two days before they released it, when they played the Paradise. Greatly looking forward to seeing them again. They've definitely had a great last 13 months
Lord Huron - I find their music so interesting. It's poppy, but unlike a lot of other folk-pop, and listening to them always brings to mind a lot of different imagery. The cinematic influence of Ben Schneider is very evident to me.
Laura Marling - Saw her right around when her new album came out and she was fantastic (she did the whole medley from the beginning of Once I Was an Eagle, it was incredible), but Short Movie failed to really take hold with me and I haven't listened to it much recently. She's a great get for Newport because I feel like she's a little too quiet for any other festival.
Blake Mills - Love his last album and the things people say about his guitar abilities have me very very excited to finally see him. He's such an interesting musician and songwriter and I wish he toured more, but a Newport set is a-ok with me.
Honorable Mentions: Bahamas (never fully grabbed me, but I still like his stuff, great guitar player too), Leon Bridges (a bit of a one-trick pony without really bringing anything new to the table, and seems to lack stage presence, but damn if his album doesn't make for a great listen), Sturgill Simpson (I'd love to see him, but he'd most likely lose out to any conflict), Hozier (same with Bahamas, but I'd enjoy him more at Newport than anywhere else he'd play), Shakey Graves (I think I'm a little over him. His playing is really good, but I dunno, I just only need to see him play his stuff so many times)
tl;dr - I am very excited about a lot of the artists for various reasons, also I still have some research to do
Strand of Oaks - love his most recent album and have heard fantastic reviews of his performances (did anyone see him at 'Roo), so hopefully I'll get to see him
I saw him at Roo and it was my favorite Thursday set. Here's a review by Stereogum.
Strand Of Oaks Aside from making it to the Farm in time for it, I can think of no better way to have kicked off Bonnaroo 2015 than a set from Strand Of Oaks. Even after seeing the same set at Governors Ball last weekend and Primavera before that, the new lineup's power is undiminished. A lot of early Bonnaroo arrivals seemed to agree, with This Tent already being packed to the point of spilling out into the fields surrounding it and, with the sun still up, bottling all the humidity up under the tent to the point where it felt like a storm just had to break to bring some relief. With another distorted guitar swapped in for their old synth player, Strand Of Oaks' current live sound basically does sound like a storm breaking, songs now expanded and augmented with even more intensely cathartic guitar bursts and mini-epic outros. "Sterling" has become a late-set highlight -- once a ruminative folk song from Pope Killdragon, it's the most drastically transformed example of Strand Of Oaks' Crazy Horse phase, morphed into a patient volcano of a song. Everyone there seemed eager and excited to have Strand Of Oaks at Bonnaroo, and Showalter fed off that energy, proclaiming it one of their favorite shows they've ever done. He crowd-surfed as the dying notes of "JM" echoed from the stage, pumping his fist in the air in triumph.

Seconded. Definitely my top Thursday act and top 3 for the weekend.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

You girls didn't see Courtney Barnett? She rocked my socks. I missed the keyboards in Strand Of Oaks set. He was so appreciative of the crowd though.
I wasn't a huge fan of Courney Barnett. I saw most of it up front (was I with you?!?) and then gave up and moved back because I was tired and I wasn't enjoying it enough to be up there.
EDIT: She's obviously extremely talented- her music just isn't for me in general. Usually I like people better in person in these situations, but it didn't happen this time.

No, I wasn't with you. I like her albums, but she took it to a whole other level live. I saw her in November at FFF and it was kind of a laid back set. She unleashed the fury at Roo, howling into the mic and laying it all out on the floor with her open hand guitar riffing. Gah, that set got me so pumped up. I didn't know "Pedestrian At Best" could rock so hard.

SoO were fantastic at Roo! Definitely a fav of mine. I specifically remember hearing him (them?) come on while I was grabbing a beer, then running to This Tent as quickly and carefully as possible so I wouldn't spill any. I lost about a third of the poor bastard.
lol. Crowd surfing at Newport would frighten people.
That Courtney Barnett set may get hyped.
My guess is Dylan shows up on a sailboat and crowd-surfs his way to the stage, just in time for the big EDM drop in his inevitable "Mr. Tambourine Man 2015 Remixxx".
