You guys are missing the best part of Friday. Tommy Stinson. I was planning on doing Sat and Sun, but I had to call an audible for Friday over Saturday.
Yea, that should be really good. I bet McCauley is loving having him as a guest.
One of my favorite things ever is seeing younger musicians play with their heros
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I'm feeling like Milk Carton Kids, Punch Brothers and Dawes are all very strong contenders for Newport '65
MCK are in Calgary the day before, but I'd love for them to be there.
I expect Chris Thile to be there in some capacity. Would love a little Nickel Creek, given that Sarah and Sean are there
I'll be shocked and disappointed if Dawes aren't there. I said this earlier, but I'd really love for them to be a sort of backing band for the whole thing.
I finally said screw it and completely erased the schedule I created. I'll be attending solo this year after all so I'm just going to go where the spirit moves me.
A friend of mine suggested that the unannounced Saturday act might be Lucius. They're free and opening for the Decemberists the next day, so the timing lines up. But the half hour set time still throws me off a little bit.

Van Slyke from BTME was saying this a couple days ago. 30 min setlist still seems odd.

Soooo, could some New Basement Tapes stuff be possible now? With Jim (most likely) being there, Elvis having Sat & Sun off from his tour with Steely Dan and being nearbyish (Iowa on Fri, Michigan on Mon), Mumford being free until Aug 1st, and Taylor having the Sunday off and being in the area (Rhiannon is in Canada the whole weekend. Dammit Canada.) We cooould have Elvis, Marcus, and Taylor during the 65 Revisited set and/or Jim and Marcus doing a song or two Friday.
What's security like? I've never been to a fest where they actually allow coolers and chairs in so I'm trying to figure out some logistics. If my camelbak is filled heading in do they make you dump it? Just trying to decide if I want to have a cooler full of water or just fill my camelbak throughout the day. I too will be drinking some sunscreen so not worried about that.
Also heading in are there specific lines for those with coolers etc? Thanks again in advance

Or maybe none of them will be there...
Well infinitypass says MMJ are there. But the fact that Jim and Taylor can't be there on the same day is a real bummer. Would love for MMJ to drop "Down On the Bottom" into their set. Also if Jim is there he can stop by Calexico's set and do "Goin' to Acapulco."
Would love for Marcus to be there and do "Kansas City," other than that I'm fine with whatever happens

Yeah, I've been keeping my hopes that there could be a convergence in Newport for Sunday. I'm especially hopeful for Marcus being there. Would love to hear him doing Kansas City.

Security is a cursory look into any bags or coolers you are bringing in. If you have no bag or cooler there is a different line you can go through and there are no patdowns or anything like that. The lines are never really that long even during the peak times. I'm not sure about the camelback question. Any takers? Will they let you in with a camelback? Can it be full? Not sure.

Last night as we were packing, I told Brad I wasn't going to take my camelbak bladder with me. He said "Don't you need it for water during the day?" I laughed and laughed and laughed.

Hey All, longtime lurker - 2nd time to the fest. NFF quickly went on par if not surpassed Roo as my ultimate non-professional musical experience thus far -I'm looking to come every year!
I have heard a rumor with some of my colleagues (I'm am music teacher, but I went to school with a ton of arts management folks) that were in Chicago for the last Grateful Dead show that there will be a Dead presence at NFF. I'm thinking one or more members will be part of the '65 Revisited set if that holds true, but who know, maybe we'll see some kind of superjam type set in that unannounced Saturday slot.
To the person asking about camelbaks, I brought mine in last year. It depended who I approached. When boss man wasn't around it was a simple sniff check or a wink and go, but they did make me dump it once. I'm just going with some sealed bottles this year I think.
Counting down the hours - see some of ya'll at the Watkin's Family pre-show!
