I was looking for you and fawn and figured i would find you but no luck
Did you look for me here? That's where you would have found me beaker said he thinks he saw me there. (but really, we need to meet. We need a Northampton date)
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

No i just sort of looked everywhere as a spy on artists walking around i spy on you guys to. I only went up to the rail once and it was for first aid kit.
I definitely saw bacon going to the front for '65, but I only knew it was him because I also saw him at Roo with a sign saying it was him. I definitely hope to start meeting more of you people. I'll make more of an effort to meet up next year

Then you saw me too, but didn't know it. Bacon was the only one on the rail for '65, but I was directly behind him. That's how I had people look for us all weekend, "Look for Bacon's man bun!"

What sign was he carrying?
At roo, it might have just been a name tag or something, my memory is a little fuzzy, but it was at the rail for Dawes.
But that picture you posted will definitely help me learn all of your faces.
Also, when do we get the Newport 2016 thread started? Because I'm ready to start listing wild and not-so-wild predictions
I had a great time at Newport and Quack Club. The scenery is beautiful. The fort is probably the coolest venue I've ever been to. The weather was amazing. I'm at work right now and it's hotter than it was all weekend at Newport and it's just 8 am. I loved the setup of the fest and the small crowds. It was easy to get from show to show and I never felt crowded. This was the least tired I've ever been after a festival. Quack club was amazing, Fawn and Don are the best hosts ever and it was really fun hanging out with everyone.
I saw Bahamas, Angel Olsen, Hiss Golden Messenger, Strand Of Oaks, Tallest Man On Earth, MMJ and Roger Waters (on the rail), For Pete's Sake (left after Colin Meloy), Courtney Barnett, James Taylor, Sufjan Stevens, Decemberists, Dylan Goes Electric, Nathaniel Ratliff, Felice Brothers, Laura Marling, J Mascis, 65 Revisited.
I downloaded the Lone Bellow set from NPR and broke it up into individual tracks, if anyone else would want that let me know and I'll upload it somewhere. Will probably do the same with a few other sets I liked when they post 'em.
Yeah I'd definitely appreciate that. That was my 8th time seeing them and probably the 2nd best (1st being their Bowery Ballroom show in March, my favorite show of the year so far)
Cool, here ya go. Let me know if this doesn't work.

I saw that guy in the red shirt multiple times during the weekend and yeah I did see you too

I have more to come, but I have to get my XPN photos edited first. Here's a tiny taste.
Gah. I tried so hard to get a good picture of them in the same frame, but the best I got were boring ones like this (I also tryyyyy to not to keep my phone out the ENTIRE time, so I definitely missed all of the good opportunities):

Got to meet the lovely Ms cath which was a pleasure.
Weather was grand! Only 98% a hot sweaty mess instead of 150%. 3 more new products including 'tame the mane' have failed the test. POOF. MUFASA!
Had first time ever at NFF 'mom and dad' alone time with quacker at Nathaniel Rathcliff Great show! SOB -> the shape i'm in - > SOB was fantastic.
Didn't think anyone could top my girl Brandi but in hindsight have to give the nod to Lone Bellow. They were over the top!
Enjoyed 65 revisited. No complaints however a hint underwhelmed..until (what looked like from the back) every remaining artist in the fort came out to wrap it all up with a 10K person sing a long to Everybody Must Get Stoned. Did not see That coming. Epic ending to another magical weekend.
It was so great to meet the quack clubbers I had the opportunity to meet. What a lovely, warm group! I hope everyone had as wonderful of a time as I did. Why does the weekend go so fast! I love that I now have faces to put with names! Fawnmart you are the best. You and your hubby embody the family spirit of NFF. Can't wait for next year.

10. "Goodnight Irene" at the Newport Blues Cafe - Sunday Night Getting through the weekend doing as much as I did was exhausting at times but after the amazing finale of Newport '65 I got a huge rush of energy because I knew it was all almost over. That night I hit the Newport Blues Cafe hard. Overall Deer Tick seemed pretty tired, and the extremely loud set by J. Mascis and his buds was not what I was hoping for. However at the end of the night everyone singing "Goodnight Irene" and knowing that this was it, we had made it through the weekend, was pretty glorious.
9. Goodbye Girls at the Quad - Friday Morning I got a nice seat at the Quad Stage to take in my first set of the day. It was a wonderful way to kick off the festival with some authentic bluegrass music. These girls shredded their instruments with equal prowess and it was a joy to see them vibe off each other as the crowd cheered with approval. They looked a little nervous, but were extremely humble and down to earth. I feel that some acts at Newport have a bit too much artifice or dare I say image.. so it was great to see such an extremely talented group of musicians stripped of all superficiality and get down to what we're all there for: the music.
8. "Fools Rush In" at the Heartbreaker Banquet - Saturday Night Lucius seemed to pop up everywhere this weekend and at times I became a little fatigued on their presence. Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved their performance last year at the harbor stage but with all this exposure I think it's time for a new album. However hearing them in the intimacy of the Jane Pickens Theatre sing "Fools Rush In" with Shakey Graves, I finally gained an understanding of how amazingly talented they truly are at singing together.. and they had just learned the song in the back alley, which is pretty bad ass.
7. Watkins Family Hour - Thursday Night This set was a pure joy and I'll be damned if Sara Watkins isn't one of the most magnetizing performers at the whole festival (and she is absolutely stunning which definitely doesn't hurt). The biggest highlight was their cover of "Brokedown Palace" by The Grateful Dead which thankfully was taped and posed on the internet by CBS. I've watched that a few times now and the three part vocal harmony gives me chills every time.
6. Traveller - Saturday Morning Didn't know what to except here, but listened to the podcast and am a fan of Robert Ellis so this was a must see set of the weekend. They did not disappoint and they injected some fun and laughs into the morning which was great. My girlfriend and I loved Jonny Fritz, and are big fans of him now. Corey Chisel's solo song was jaw dropping, "Stadium Inn" was wonderfully hilarious, and of course the biggest highlight was the original "Hummingbird". Robert Ellis on the guitar was phenomenal throughout, what a talent, I really hope they record together.
5. "Helpless" at Newport Blues Cafe - Friday Night On Friday while watching Deer Tick from the side of the stage I started getting distracted by some rowdiness on my right and turn over to see none other than Jim James and the girls from Lucius. They got up on stage and sang "Helpless" which was amazing if only for the Newport star power alone. The crowd really got into this one and sang along together and there's nothing like a drunken Newport sing along.
4. James Taylor sings "Fire & Rain" and "You Got a Friend"- Saturday I had read the posts here about James Taylor playing on Saturday but was coming back from Courtney Barnett. I hit the Beer Pier when he hit the stage and was baffled by the feedback issues, that was some horrifically bad noise. After a quick beer we headed back to our "home base" and I sat back and took in the rest of his set. We got to our spot when he went into "Fire & Rain" and I'll be damned, those last two songs washed over me and I totally felt that communal moment of everyone taking in the pure beauty of those last two songs. I'm not the biggest James Taylor guy, but "Fire & Rain" and "You've Got a Friend" are two masterfully written, poignant, and beautiful songs. I may or may not have teared up
3. Newport '65, "Like a Rolling Stone"/"Rainy Day Woman" - Sunday Having attended the Bob Dylan Goes Electric panel I was glad to have the context of what they were doing which made the set nicer for me. With that being said, I kept waiting for "the big moment" and was a little disappointed when Blake Mills came out and didn't play much guitar. The songs were great, don't get me wrong, but the big moment came when everybody got to sing along "how does it feel?!" and of course "everybody must get stoned!" with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, what a classic and unforgettable moment of celebration that I'll remember forever.
2. Hiss Golden Messenger, Sax Solo at the Newport Blues Cafe - Friday Night HGM also made an acoustic appearance at Watkins Family Hour the night before which I enjoyed. This time he hit the Newport Blues Cafe with a full band ripping into 70's style rock like nobody's business and really got the place moving. He had a sax player join him (anybody know who this guy is?) who belted the most jaw dropping sax solo I have ever witnessed and blew the roof off the entire place. That was a total mind blow, I wish I could relive that moment again. I came home and listened to HGM's album which is nice, the songs are there, but the live versions in my opinion were far superior with a more uptempo classic rock edge.
1. Roger Waters/MMJ - Friday You knew it was coming.. the most epic set of my life My Morning Jacket right into Roger Waters. I mean what is there to really say? I made sure to get up close for this one and had a phenomenal view which was worth it's weight in gold. Highlights for me would most definitely include "Wish You Were Here" with Sara Watkins and of course "Eclipse" when the sun came out.. I mean WOW!!! Also MMJ with the Lucius girls singing "Wonderful", and hearing the songs off the Waterfall live especially "In It's Infancy", I can't wait for their two night stand in Boston in November!

This (and the other afterparty stuff) sounds awesome! For my first year this year I decided to stick with the fest proper to not get too beat, but next year for sure gonna do some of the nighttime stuff.
Hey jmurph- I did not see HGM at Newport, but the exact same thing happened to me when I saw them recently n NYC. I told a friend that it was the first time a sax solo was the highlight of a concert for me. It blew my mind to the point I did some research and found the guy's name was Michael Lewis.
I can't say for sure its the same dude because I know HGM has a lot of turnover in the supporting cast, but given your description I would bet it is.

Thank you! After some quick research, yes that is in fact him. I will keep an eye out for him in the future.

The one time the sax solo was a highlight of a concert for me was at an M83 show. They did the same thing on Fallon, where this dude just comes out of nowhere and destroys. I'm all for more sax solos and glad they seem to be having a (minor) resurgence.

Thanks for this. Little known fact, I'm not sure if those that were close to the stage could see it, I was towards the back of the pit. But when the sun came out and the clouds parted, the moon was clearly perched right above the stage. Everyone around me saw it and some were trying to take photos of it. Magical indeed.

I was kind of bummed that I couldn't catch Watkins Family because I've always wanted to see Fiona. It would be pretty awesome if they got her to do her own set. Maybe it will happen because artists do seem to return.
