The Roots WSP Tipper Lettuce Ott Manic Focus Joe Russo Tauk Earphunk Emancipator Galactic Umphreys
I haven't seen Emancipator yet, and I'll get Joe Russo at Waka. I don't know Tipper. What I'd tell you was that I don't recall Counterpoint being this jam/funk heavy. I'd probably go since I love seeing Papadosio, but it's Memorial Day Weekend which means Austin, Texas. Saw The Roots at Bonnaroo 2012, they were pretty good. Panic is what they are as is Umphrey's. Lettuce is always fun and can get almost anyone's *** shaking. Ott is pretty freaky (saw at Waka). Manic Focus is a pretty typical DJ but you can get some rock and psycadelic out of him sometimes. We caught 2 Tauk sets at Bear Creek, and I loved them. But then again, I love jazz and the fusiony way they work it in. Earphunk is from Nola. Outside of "I don't work no 9 to 5", most of their songs are good. They can be surprising or generic, but they are best after dark. We saw them most recently on 12/27 at Tips, and it was a jamming ass show. As most people probably know, Galactic is parterning with Macy Gray for this tour (will see them at Waka and Hangout but probably miss them the day they play Jazzfest since I don't think I'm going that day).
Not as bad as some might say. And those are just a few acts you mentioned. I could have fun at this festival, but I'm not usually in hater mode.
Tipper is a really, really good electronic producer who doesn't really tour much at all. Among my circle of friends, WSP and Tipper are probably the two biggest draws on this line up. Definitely worth checking out.
I'm actually really disappointed in this lineup. Last year was so amazing and I really wanted to see this festival grow and get more recognition. The vibes, the music, the venue, the people, it was all perfect. I was really looking forward to doing Counterpoint as a warm up to Bonnaroo two weeks later. But there's just nothing that interests me all that much. Why's the Hip Hop lineup so weak? Last year we had OutKast, Run the Jewels, J.Cole, Schoolboy Q, and we were supposed to have Chance the Rapper before he canceled. I mean I love The Roots but that's such an odd headliner choice given Counterpoints young demographic. Travis Scott is awesome. But IloveMakonnen and Yung Lean? That's the best you got? I'm not gonna spend a couple hundred on that. I was hoping for some ASAP Rocky, Danny Brown, Action Bronson or something. I'm cool with adding more jam bands but the balance in this lineup is all off. Maybe I'll get a one day pass but I'm actually leaning towards maybe doing Hangout or something instead

I think CounterPoint needs to lock down a demographic and stick to it. They clearly started as a electronic/indie rock/hip-hop festival, but now they're trying to bring in jam? 2012 and 2013 maintained a good balance of genres, this year they ditched hip-hop completely and got screwed for EDM considering a number of electronic festivals are held during Memorial Day weekend. What a mess.

I'm someone who loves festivals that genre blend. With that being said, this lineup is such a snoozer. There's nothing exciting on it to me. Shakey Knees and 420 Fest Spank the living hell out of this lineup.

Eh. It's not counterpoints fault that the biggest electronic music festival in the world decided to branch out and take over their venue after only 1 year. It's hard to have an EDM themed festival with TomorrowWorld in your back yard.
I'm interested to see how this year turns out. I see a lot of hate for this line up on this site in particular, and CP's facebook page seems 50/50. When talking to people around the city who go to shows a lot though, it seems like everyone is SUPER stoked. I know 2 people who said they would never go to counterpoint again after last year who were immediately on board when the line up was announced. Widespread Panic was a REALLY good idea as a headliner considering the location of this festival. The jam scene and the EDM scene are both really prominent in this state.

I think I have to disagree about TW. All the EDM festival goers I know like having something slightly more accessible so local. CP is so early in the year too, by the time you get to September/TW time, you're ready for it. I always try to shoot for both.
I do agree about the jam band scene here though. As an Athenian especially, I see people lose their shit over anything associated with Panic. Umphrey's too. It's just crazy to me to try and combine that scene with the EDM it doesn't seem like there's that many people who are fans of both. Give this lineup to me as Shakey Knees or 420 and I think it's great. It's this fact that CP was mostly EDM up until now that makes it so trash.

Exactly. It also helps that Widespread Panic isn't really hitting any Southeast cities on their Spring tour...I for one am stoked that I'll get to see them since this is the closest they'll come around me on their Spring tour! Throw in The Roots, Galactic, Umphrey's, Lettuce, Joe Russo's Almost Dead, Papadosio, etc....going to be a blast!

There are a shit ton of fans of both, and Waka pulls it off every year. Electric Forest keeps getting bigger. Buku has been known to dabble in both as well, though they are lacking in jamtronica/livetronica so far this year. I like all three of the lineups for the upcoming GA fests. I think Sweetwater 420 has a fun ass top. Counterpoint has the most acts I'd want to see, and Shaky Knees, which seems to get the most play on this forum, is all over the place with some eclectic shit and a lot of so-called hipstery shit. My bet is that you will probably see the most facial hair, Fedoras, PBR and Vape Cigs at Shaky Knees. . If I lived anywhere near Georgia, Counterpoint would easily be top 1 fest choice. But all 3 have more than enough to make me happy.

I take it you're more into EDM. I feel where y'all are coming from, but a line up like 2012 isn't really feasible anymore. I think there are a lot of factors that go into the Counterpoint change. It's also much closer to Bonnaroo than it used to be time wise, so you'll see very little overlap in these two festivals. That removes a chunk of EDM artists from the potential line up. No Deadmau5, Bassnectar, Flying Lotus, etc. because they're at Bonnaroo.
There's a lot of people in our area, so I can't really speak for everybody. Around my circles in Atlanta though, I'd say String Cheese Incident and Bassnectar are the acts that are regularly touring that really get people hot and bothered.
Is car camping really such a big deal to other people??? The Counterpoint Facebook page went crazy when they announced they were going to allow car camping this year. People actually said this makes them want to go now. What gives?
I prefer the safety of being able to have my valuables in my car right by my tent at festivals. If I can't do that, I usually don't go to that festival.
Well I guess that makes sense. Every camping festival we've been to it's been car camping and we've never had anything stolen so I guess that didn't cross my mind. I just couldn't believe some people who actually liked the lineup said they weren't going to go because car camping wasn't a option (until now).
Anybody know how the layout will be? How far of a walk is it to the stages?

This was the layout for last year and I imagine it'll be the same for this year. The walk to the stages is only about 10-15 minutes depending where you're camped and which stage you're going to. It's a fairly small space for a festival with four stages, but it works surprisingly well. The relative quaintness makes the fest feel really intimate.
Just stumbled upon Tauk who are playing a free show this Friday in Nashville. Definitely going to check them out and can't wait to see them again at Counterpoint!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Friday I'd see Chet Faker and Hermitude. Saturday I'd see Brodinski, Galactic, Thomas Jack, What So Not, Emanicipator, Lunice and Jauz Sunday I'd see The Roots, Lettuce, Gorgon City, Michal Menert, Goldish and Bixel Boys.
Not a 0/10, but definitely one of the worst lineups of the season.
Don't really understand all the hate for this lineup. Yes, they brought in some jambands and more funk. Since when has that ever been a bad thing??? To each their own I guess. I for one am glad they mixed it up this year and am super pumped to see what Counterpoint has to offer!
This lineup is so small compared to last year. Eight acts on Friday!? What happened? I guess everyone gets a longer set to jam out. I'm also guessing the stages will be different this year.

Yeah, it's just unexplained hatred. I've seen a lot of acts on the lineup, and have absolutely no problem with what I know. From what I know, Knife Party, Joe Russo's Almost Dead, Soul Rebels, Hermitude, Earphunk and Tauk on Friday already makes for a great day. If Archnemesis and Chet Faker are good, then it's a triple on day 1.
Saturday has Panic, Dillon Francis, RL Grime, Rebelution, Galactic, Thomas Jack, What's So Not, and Papadosio. That's a good day anywhere.
Sunday: The Roots, Lettuce, Zed's Dead, Ott, Michael Menert, Minnesota, Manic Focus and Kygo? Anyone that can't have fun at that is probably looking for more boy band action IMHO.

They're supposed to have 60 bands total so I don't think they're done announcing names. I'll admit it is odd to release a day-by-day schedule before having all acts, but there's still more to come.

The Silent Disco acts, some local bands, and some local DJs. I'm not expecting anything else.
I've got a friend who's maintained all along that Bassnectar will be there and that it'd be a late announcement due to him being at 'roo. Says there are artists that are on the CP lineup that will be added to the 'roo lineup as well (RL grime maybe... can't remember the specific artist(s)). My friend's not an insider by any means, but he reads about this stuff all the time and has been right about similar predictions many many times in the past. And it looks like Friday's missing a headliner to me...
