With the lineup now officially out, let's figure out which shows are locks for late-night sets. I don't know all of the EDM artists and don't know many on the bill after Mac Demarco, so I might miss a few, but here are my guesses...
Locks for Which Stage: MMJ, Bassnectar
Locks for tents: Flume, Slayer, STS9, Flying Lotus, Caribou, SBTRKT, Jamie xx, Odesza, Rudimental, Gramatik, at least one rap artist (hoping for Run the Jewels)
Probable: Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Moon Taxi, Sylvan Esso
Wild cards: Gambino, Ben Harper, Atomic Bomb, Earth Wind & Fire, Twenty One Pilots, Trampled by Turtles, Between the Buried & Me, Pallbearer
How does that list look?
Like rory said its really hard to pin point what acts are a "lock" for late night. bonnaroo gunna do what they want. I can take your list and have a completely different opinion on it.
Which Stage: MMJ and Bassnectar are probably pretty safe bets
Slayer/other metal bands - I really have no idea where bonnaroo will put them. The metal LN tent last year wasn't wildly popular. Part of me hopes for Slayer LN, the other part of me would rather not have them conflict with somebody else I want to see. Bonnaroo should put them on the What stage before Billy Joel.
STS9 - obvious choice for sunrise set but they could just as easily be in a later afternoon/evening tent, a la conspirator a couple years ago.
Caribou/SBTRKT - could just as easily be in a day time tent
RTJ - I could actually see them LN, in a wildly overcrowded tent. Bonnaroo should put them on the What stage before Billy Joel.
MSMW - I love MMW but the one MSMW set I saw was pretty sleepy time boring. Hoping for a day set here.
Ben Harper - I'm betting he's day time What.
EWF or Tears For Fears - wildcards that could end up anywhere on the lineup, including LN.
Of course in the end everybody wants their favorite act to play LN and convinces themselves it has to happen. But they can't all be LN.
looking forward to speculating about it until they release the LN acts though.

Honestly how could Slayer NOT be a late-night? But I guess you could say the same thing about bands that looked like locks before. Basically the sun can't be up when Slayer comes on. The other two metal bands look more like Thursday shows.

Oh I agree with you, Slayer absolutely should be a late night. And if they were up against even the beloved MMJ I think I'd violate the "never miss an MMJ set at bonnaroo" rule and see Slayer instead. But I've learned not to get too excited about any LN prospects until they are actually announced.
I like that they released who was playing LN before the schedule was released last year. I'm assuming/hoping they do that again.
My Morning Jacket will get 1.5 hours on the Which stage at 5 p.m.
MMJ's position on the line up does scare me. They dropped from 6th in 2011 to 7th this year. The 7th billed names in 2012 (The Shins) and 2014 (Phoenix) were not late nights. R. Kelly did receive a LN spot in 2013.

I think they will do an all metal late night tent again this year (like last year). It seemed to work well. I would expect Slayer and others there. I see Pallbearer as more of a Thursday act though. Maybe that is wishful thinking by me. I think MMJ will be a Which Stage late night act. Flying Lotus is a definite late night. I also think that an artist "addition" will be an EDM type superjam or Hip Hop Superjam or a combo of the two.
Tears for Fears has late night written all over it.
I think they will close the Which Stage one night, probably Sunday. They are for an older crowd and I doubt they will be late night, but you never know.
That schedule hates you more... But what, just a ton of conflicts? (Because that's unavoidable)
I've been thinking along the same lines, LN schedule wise. Looking at the lineup and considering my tastes, I don't envision any way I'm not going to be faced with a ton of conflicts. Even more than normal. I see my group potentially being split up more than normal, too.

Yeah, I've been thinking this as well. Especially because I'm most likely going to want to be on the rail for at least one or two of them so I will be sitting at the stages for a while with no music. As long as I'm with like two or three of my friends, I'll be happy. I think the conflicts for me are going to be horrendous on Thursday and during latenights. I'm getting panicky about the schedule already

me too. a lot of the acts I really want to see are obvious LN contenders, which is why I'm strangely hoping that bonnaroo screws up the LNs just a little bit, by putting some obvious LN contenders in day time slots.
for example, I really want to see STS9 because I haven't seen them since murph left, but I'm certainly not going to go see them if they conflict with slayer or MMJ. so I'm kind of hoping they get that pre-HL tent that conspirator got a couple years ago. having said that, STS9 has a long history with bonnaroo, so I would consider it more likely than not they get LN closer set (till sunrise probably).
I'm already trying to accept that no matter how it ends up, I'll probably end up missing Flying Lotus. I don't think anything will top his 2012 set though. at least thats what I'm telling myself.

I really want to see FlyLo's show because I missed him when he came through Orlando in October. And I like STS9, but I've seen them quite a few times (most recently at hangout last year) and they are awesome every time but I'd rather see acts that I have never seen before.

RTJ - Most feared set due to the amount of people who will be in this tent. Flylo/SBTRKT- Either or, but wont hesitate to skip both repeats for something better. STS9/Dopapod - Can see them playing into the sunrise on two separate days. So I wont be in a rush to get over to those sets. Caribou - Want to see, but most likely going to conflict. MMJ - Must see Which Gramatik - Must see Tent Bassnectar - Wildcard spot. Wont be seeing him so hope Roo has some other good options. Slayer - Metal tent closer, pending conflicts Flume/ODESZA - Hopefully both, but Flume over ODESZA Kalliope - Dont forget about the Kalliope

Nice list, you're making me think now:
RTJ - It is probably a safe assumption that this tent will be so packed I'll end up skipping it for something else anyway. At least that is how I'm going to proceed mentally so I don't get disappointed. Flylo/SBTRKT- Either or, but wont hesitate to skip both repeats for something better. STS9/Dopapod - I agree with you about STS9 sunrise potential, but I don't think there is enough love for Dopapod to give them that spot. But otherwise I have no clue where they would put Dopapod. MMJ - LN which, we'll see who conflicts. would pick slayer over them if I had to. Gramatik - tent, but could get daytime'd Bassnectar - LN Which, most likely, although a small chance of a zedd which closer spot. Either way I see myself skipping ole' bassnectar for something else. Slayer - Could close a LN tent, or could open a LN tent with a lesser known act closing. sort of like how Mastodon opened LN last year, with Meshuggah, the lesser known act, closing. Caribou/Flume/ODESZA - One or more of these are going to get daytime'd, I'm willing to bet. I'm not super familiar with Flume or ODESZA but I'd like to catch Caribou. I've only been a fan since "Swim" but I enjoy everything I hear and have never seen him live.

you think Dopapod could close a tent on Thursday. Then they could play as long as they want like ALO in 13. Don't really know much about them.

Seem to be the most Jam act that we have this year. I said the same for Umphreys last year and they got screwed over, but dopapod isnt What stage popular and will definitely draw in the latenight folk as all the other music starts to shut down. Yea they could pull off a Thursday scenario as well, but I think get bumped up because of their lone jam/jamtronica band status on the lineup.

Well Umphreys got to play the What stage for the first time, which is a big deal for them, so maybe we got screwed over by not getting another Umphreys LN set, but I got the impression they were pleased with their slot. Also their usual roo pattern is LN > random day set > LN > random day set etc.
captaina152 i could definitely see dopapod in the ALO thursday slot, would be a good spot for them.
also I still consider STS9 to be "jamtronica", even if they've tended more towards EDM over the past several years.

i think mmj is probably a lock, like most people.
considering that will probably be friday night. i would request run the jewels in a tent, starting around when mmj finishes. i don't think mmj will play for 100 hours again.
then on saturday i'd like something along the lines of atomic bomb -> flylo
for thursday ''ln'' predictions i'll toss five bands out that will play after 9pm
shabazz palaces mo jungle courtney barnett dopapod

This probably won't happen, but it would be cool. I hadn't heard of Jungle before the lineup drop, but this would be a sweet dance party during a LN set

I would be really pumped if MO and/or Jungle got a LN spot - but I'm afraid one or both will get daytimed. Jungle would be such a good LN dance fest
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I'd consider Gambino as a sleeper candidate for LN Which opening for Bassnectar, like Ice Cube opening for Skrillex last year. Seems like they're trying to do one LN rap on Which every year now.

Nailed it. Saturday night LN Which after Mumford could very well be Childish > Bassnectar
Hopefully these will pull the masses away from me and my pals at Earth Wind & Fire
