The Chili Peppers should be the huge amazing legacy but they fucked the second half of their career up. When you grow up listening to Mothers Milk, and the Uplift Mofo Party Plan, it is liking watching a friend die to see the same band just sing whiney ballads about California. When they played Lollapalooza on the BSSM tour it was completely a different band than the one who played Bonnaroo.
Edit wow this got way off topic, so I will leave it with this, and if you think this is not weird psychedelic LN worthy shit, I just do not know what to say.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

Take up with Capp Dogg. He's the one who scheduled him for Sunday.
The only reason he should even be considered for LN is because he's easily one of the best acts on the lineup, and people like seeing the best acts LN. Not because his music necessitates it.
I guess there aren't A TON of albums like that, but some of my favorite alums are about to have major anniversaries within the the next five years.
Flaming Lips have The Soft Bulletin hitting 20 in 2019 Radiohead has OK Computer and Kid A Pixies' Surfer Rosa hits 30 in 2018 Spiritualized will have Ladies + Gentleman becoming 20 in 2017 Modest Mouse's stuff is all about to start hitting 20 (Long Drive, LCW, Moon and Antarctica, building nothing out of something) NMH has ITAOTS turning 20 in 2018 (though they probably won't do anything for it) Dinosaur Jr. has Green Mind turn 25 next year Primal Scream's Screamadelica turns 25 next year as well
Many of these probably will not receive tours, I'm just saying the potential is there and, if you couldn't tell, 90's alt-rock is quite possibly my favorite genre, haha.

He is scheduled for nothing between Govs Ball and Bonnaroo and is blowing up right now, I don't think it is a forlorn hope that he might be there Sat, or part of a LN Superjam etc..

So I love the Flaming Lips, but if they were gonna make it bigger they would have by now. I have seen two Radiohead shows and do not really listen to them much, those were Bonnaroo 2006, and 2012 I am convinced I may have seen two different bands, whatever magic they had faded fast, to me anyway. Pixies are great Pixies minus Kim were not great ( we should have a Breeders convo though) Pass Pass Pass Dinosaur Jr has been around longer than that I think, I remember him being on Beavis and Butthead when I was in school Pass
I just remember it as a good time for Jam Bands and a bad time for rock, it was right when "alternative" started going mainsteam, and things like Dishwalla happened.

There are people who think Modest Mouse is going to get added, plus he is localish with nothing scheduled. It really does not matter much to me, I am only going this year because I got a guest pass and my son and his friends are going after graduation, and I want to be onsite. I just occasionally get bored with nothing but LN untz.

It really sucks that Spiritualized is gonna be around and none of the major fests got them. And the Primal Scream can't get decent dates in the US. THERE are some bands that deserve a late night.

Yeah, if it wasn't for Shaky knees getting Spiritualized and Pixies, I'd be going to Levitation, if Bonnaroo booked Primal Scream, Spiritualized, or The Jesus and Mary Chain (especially with them performing Psychocandy) any those would easily be my top most anticipated show of Bonnaroo. I'm shocked that none of the big fests got any of those acts (or any of the Levitation acts really) because they'd all be amazing. I really though Spiritualized or Primal Scream LN was going to happen at Roo this year. That's what I get for expecting/hoping for a a good act.

Haha, I feel terrible for derailing the thread so much. I dig Breeders, but not nearly as much as I love Pixies. I'm down to discuss music as much as you like, but PM so we can stop terrorizing this thread with our tangent, haha

I am right there with you on being tired of the electronic latenights. I almost assuredly won't see any LN electronic shows at Roo this year (I'm not sure I'll see any the whole weekend, actually) I just don't think he is happening because of his bluegrass situation involvement. I wasn't aware he live nearby. Great call on being on the grounds in case of emergency, that's a badass dad right there.

Completely agree. In my opinion, Spiritualized, Massive Attack, Portishead, and Primal Scream all should have gotten a LN Which by now (or at least a LN tent), but no, Roo seems dead set on catering to the shitty side of the 15-25 year old demographic. It really ticks me off that Skrillex X2, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, and Lil Wayne have gotten a LN Which set, and the bands I mentioned have not. Sad to say that most of my generation just doesn't know good music. P.S. PL and Bassnectar aren't that bad, but they aren't anything special. Skrillex is garbage, and Wayne sucks compared to a lot of other Hip-Hop. Just baffles me that all those guys are insanely popular.

Exactly, the shitty part of our age group are the ones controlling which acts get booked and that is fucking awful. It makes me despise most of the people in our generation.

Word. I had one such heathen camping with my group in 2012, who just could not believe that me and my brother were going to skip Skrillex. I told him we would be quite alright out at the Questlove SJ and GZA performing Liquid Swords, and he was just like "who"? We just rolled our eyes. Of course, this was the kid who told me the best concert he'd ever been to was Coldplay on the Mylo Xyloto tour. He is a pretty alright guy in every other aspect of life, but man, his taste in music is shit.

Well it is not entirely altruistic I am sure I will have fun and hang at camp inforoo. I am not real worried about him, he has been going to festivals since he was young. Hell he raged the rail at a Primus show with Whoreshack when he was 15, there is not much left new in the world for him.

That just proves you're an awesome dad, if they're on the rail for Primus at 15, you've done something right.

Yeah, those kinds of people are the worst. My group that I always go with is really big but really tight knit and we tend to weed out those with awful taste (or we at least make it clear that they are not allowed to plug in their iPods while we are driving, haha.) Skipping that superjam/GZA for Skrilly should be a crime.

How old are you guys anyway? I know the answer has to be that you are scarily closer to my 18 year old than me in age. In all fairness he actually likes good music though.

The biggest tragedy in regards to late night omissions is going to be Jamie xx. Definitely the best electronic act on the lineup and he's going to get fucked.

Haha, I don't wanna make you feel old but I turn 21 in March. My musical tastes don't align with mainstream music for my age demographic because I grew up hanging out with kids 7-10 years older than me (my best friend just turned 30, which was felt very weird to celebrate because that is how old my dad was when we first met.) Consequently, the first two groups I REALLY got into were Modest Mouse and Pixies in the year 2000 when I was six years old. It wasn't until I got to highschool that I really started listening to current music.
Oh, oh, let me clarify, my friends that are my age or younger have pretty good taste in music because I met nearly all of them at festivals or I met them through other friends that I met at festivals/shows. However, most of my friends are at least a a couple years older than me and I also met most of them through music so they've all got great taste in music. Except one friend, who I drunkenly got in an argument with last weekend because he played shitty music (Carly Rae Jepsen and that "Vamos a la Playa" song and Nickelback) just to get under my skin cause he thinks it's funny. I finally snapped after the second Nickelback song, he and I aren't speaking at the moment, haha

That, what might be worse would be if SBTRKT got an afternoon slot AGAIN, just because they will have fucked him over twice (which I don't think will happen.) But I agree Jamie XX is basically guaranteed to receive an awful time slot for his show, it's such a shame

24. And I will that say most of friends my age have good taste. I've found that a bunch of my younger brother's friends (he is 20) not only have bad taste, but are just really ignorant on music in general. When my bro first came to college and I was just finishing up, I really tried my best to educate some of those young ones. I remember one of his friends asking me what song was playing when 'A Day in the Life' came up on shuffle. I was simply dumbfounded. I'm like, "Um... so... this is like one of the most famous songs of all time dude". LOL... Oblivious, right?

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh its going to suck. I saw Jamie xx at III Points back in October and he absolutely slaughtered it. He remixed a couple of Radiohead songs to end his set and they were magical. His music is perfect for late night

Agreed. He seems destined for that semi-unknown yet really good electronic act that gets fucked every year ala SBTRKT, Four Tet, and Classixx. He would kill a late late set where he could just go on for hours, that is kinda what he is best at.

Although, I just had genius idea. What if he got to close a tent on Thursday? That would be amazing, and would probably help conflicts in the weekend LNs.
Probably won't happen though, I still feel like he is going to get screwed. I'm hoping that Jamie xx > Caribou closes one of the tents on Sunday since we already know that Caribou is Sunday.

Exactlyyyyy, Four Tet is exactly who I think of when I think of Jamie XX and where he will get billed.

I beseech you to check out the Flying Lotus set! Prior to Bonnaroo 2012 I pretty much dismissed electronic music off hand. I still don't really listen to much EDM at all & there are less than a handful of artists I get excited about. I stumbled into FlyLo on accident because I heard Blackstar playing a song I recognized that my GF at the time listened to allot (I had virtually no idea who Blackstar was or that they did that song, it was just one of those "Oh Neat! I know that song.") Turned out to be the last song of there set and as it was ending Flying Lotus started mixing himself in and there was a flawless transition from there set to his. That was cool. So Figured I'd listen for a short bit then bounce over to Umphry's set. I didn't plan to stick around but I wound up dancing my ass off to his entire set. To me most EDM shows without any production would get boring pretty quickly. He had NO LIGHT SHOW to speak of. It was just him and his music and it was glorious & mesmerizing! I strongly encourage you to just take a peak! And some acid.

Yeah I would love for him to close a tent on Thursday, but he's 45th on the bill which seems like a little to high to play that day. I'd love for him to play the Darkside spot, but Sunday night at dusk could work too I guess. Jamie xx -> Caribou would be a killer way to end the festival. Fuck Billy Joel
