Although, I just had genius idea. What if he got to close a tent on Thursday? That would be amazing, and would probably help conflicts in the weekend LNs.
Probably won't happen though, I still feel like he is going to get screwed. I'm hoping that Jamie xx > Caribou closes one of the tents on Sunday since we already know that Caribou is Sunday.
Shabazz Palaces > Jamie XX > Caribou would be a badass Sunday Other Tent!!
For sure, that would be a pretty sensational way to end the weekend.
I am right there with you on being tired of the electronic latenights. I almost assuredly won't see any LN electronic shows at Roo this year (I'm not sure I'll see any the whole weekend, actually)
I beseech you to check out the Flying Lotus set! Prior to Bonnaroo 2012 I pretty much dismissed electronic music off hand. I still don't really listen to much EDM at all & there are less than a handful of artists I get excited about. I stumbled into FlyLo on accident because I heard Blackstar playing a song I recognized that my GF at the time listened to allot (I had virtually no idea who Blackstar was or that they did that song, it was just one of those "Oh Neat! I know that song.") Turned out to be the last song of there set and as it was ending Flying Lotus started mixing himself in and there was a flawless transition from there set to his. That was cool. So Figured I'd listen for a short bit then bounce over to Umphry's set. I didn't plan to stick around but I wound up dancing my ass off to his entire set. To me most EDM shows without any production would get boring pretty quickly. He had NO LIGHT SHOW to speak of. It was just him and his music and it was glorious & mesmerizing! I strongly encourage you to just take a peak! And some acid.
Hahaha, no, I actually love electronic music, but most of the electronic stuff today is total shit. FlyLo is one of my favorite current electronic artists and I want to see his set, but I'll most likely be skipping his set due to conflict because I saw in Orlando in October. I love that you just randomly went to his show and loved the set and danced your ass off, FlyLo will do that to ya. One of my biggest/kinda likely fears for the schedule is MMJ conflicting Flying Lotus

LOL. Saw your post didn't read further and jumped in. My biggest fear is a Slayer vs. FlyLo late night conflict. A Slayer vs. FlyLo vs. MMJ would be....I don't want to entertain that thought. I'm expecting some real heart breaking LN conflicts this year. So many amazing under-card acts that would be perfect for LN but only 4 nights to stuff them in.

I have this feeling that I will only have one really bad LN conflict this year. I don't know why, but I just think the conflicts won't be too shabby because my top acts will probably get latenights, so it'll make it easier for me to skip acts that I want to see, but I'm not dying to see, and I won't have to worry the entire time about what's going on at the other show because I will surely be at one of my favorite artists of the festival. However, I think, it ONE point during the LN shows, there is going to a conflict so horrible that I dare not imagine it right now. Slayer vs. MMJ would be an awful one but I don't think they'll do that because Slayer versus Bassnectar makes much more sense to me than Slayer vs. MMJ.
I think MOST electronic stuff is terrible. I love a lot of electronic. But, these days, for every good electronic act, there are five shitty DJ's. This partially due to me despising house/deep house/trance; three very popular sub genres right now.
The biggest tragedy in regards to late night omissions is going to be Jamie xx. Definitely the best electronic act on the lineup and he's going to get fucked.
That, what might be worse would be if SBTRKT got an afternoon slot AGAIN, just because they will have fucked him over twice (which I don't think will happen.) But I agree Jamie XX is basically guaranteed to receive an awful time slot for his show, it's such a shame
Yeah, I agree it is very likely due to his billing, and I'm really bummed about it. I just won't feel nearly as compelled to get front and center for Jamie at like 3 pm on Friday.... But on the bright side, maybe there weren't be any conflicts during his set?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I'd say you're completely wrong, or you're just listening to the wrong stuff. I'd argue that electronic music, along with heavy metal, is the genre having the largest renaissance right now. Go outside the big name cheese DJs and it's a cornucopia of talent. If you're looking at the Tomorrowlands and Electric Daisy Carnivals and Ultras, then sure, it's mostly shit. But other than that, it's pretty outstanding.

Honestly, Jamie xx doesn't really need a late night. His shows are terrific, but more subdued, and he hasn't really had much of a stage show to speak of in recent years. He'd be perfectly fine in a tent later in the day.

Okay, good to know. I haven't seen him live before.

Yeah I think it's more that the shitty electronic music is more popular, not that there is necessarily more of it. There are even a few festivals that book almost entirely creative electronic music (Mountain Oasis, Moogfest, Movement). I definitely would like to see Roo shift more heavily toward that vein of electronic.

Yeah when I saw him he just used the default lighting provided. I know he'll crush it regardless of the time he plays, I just feel like darkness is the perfect atmosphere for his set.

This is exactly what I'm expecting and I'm completely okay with it.

Him using standard lighting would be fantastic. Gives that gritty Club feel that is missing with most electronic acts these days. Then again he is an actual DJ and not an 'Act" so to speak

I would be down for a mid to late afternoon Jamie xx slot as well. It's comparable to Four Tet. While that show would've been much more atmospheric at night, I probably would've ended up skipping him due to inevitable conflicts and desire to see something more hi NRG.
Also I know I'm in the minority but I wouldn't be bummed if RTJ doesn't end up with a LN either. People are gonna go nuts regardless.
No, I agree with you on that. Late night RTJ might actually be tooooo outta control (I mean, I'd still be there, don't get me wrong, but that shit at 2 am??).

Ya! I hope he has the whole laptop AND the awesome black tablecloth. A water bottle and a bottle of booze together would be over the top! Epic late night!
Pretty much every mock that has been proposed has RTJ conflicting with something else I really want to see, and so I guess it is time to enter acceptance phase that it is very likely that the real schedule will have that be the case, too. I honestly wouldn't mind RTJ not getting LN for the sole reason that it would probably alleviate many conflict issues. He could do the Lauryn Hill spot just fine - middle of the day, I would't love (and I doubt would happen).
