Just when I was almost completely set on seeing Cage the Elephant. The fact that those two are playing at the same time, when they're two of the three bands I mainly want to see Sunday is quite disappointing. -_-
I've heard Flaming Lips are awesome live but don't know a ton from them but from what I've seen it looks fun. Then again, I was born in the mid 90's so Fly Away was on the majority of "Summer CD's" I've ever had. Anybody have opinions on this? Then again I've heard Flaming Lips are at a lot of fests, and Lenny isn't. Haven't seen either of them, which do I see!?
I've seen Flaming Lips three times and they indeed put on an amazing live show - and all three were different. I have zero interest in listening to their music otherwise, as I don't think I would be a fan, but if they play at a fest I am going to, I would try to make it. On the other hand...
You're right about Lenny. He doesn't get around often, and when he does, it's giant venues like the Cowboys Stadium for the NCAA. I would personally try to catch Lenny, since I haven't seen him before, and there will be many chances for Flaming Lips in the future.

Shitty hotel in the hood by the airport---check Plane ticket--check Ticket---check Box of tissues tempered with shoulders to cry on and an understanding dance partner--check.
Beale St. Here I come.
Do we have a list of Inforooers going yet? A brunch or beer-meet planned?

Glad you're coming back this year lady! I'm glad I got to meet everyone last year during Blues Travelers. Yall are all amazing.
I haven't seen a roll call yet... I think last year Cleo set up a private facebook group and kind of organized it but I'm not sure he is going this year.

Silky O'Sullivans is a good place to post up for some pre-game. Outdoor bar and good drinks.

J.D., I will also be going to Beale St. this year along with HOF. We should meet for a drink, Silky's & the Rum Boogie both are a lot of fun. Did you make it to Indy for the Weezer show? I didn't go due to the shitty weather. Also know your a Ump. fan , they will be playing at White River State Park again this year. Checkout W.R.S.P. website, they have a lot of good shows this year.

youre going to Forecastle too, right? We'll definitely meet up for some libations. already have tickets to the umph show in Indy, it's slways one of their best of the year. I love that venue. I passed on Weezer show because of the weather myself.

Yes I am, Beale St. my wife & I are going with another couple. Love Beale St. HOF is a guys trip this year, 5 of us but only 3 going to festival and the other 2 are going for golf & some free time away form there wives. HO is my favorite festival, beach, bands, atmosphere, food, and all the lovely ladies. Forecastle we are inviting my daughter & son inlaw to join (they're both in there 30s) , love the bourbon lodge and it's closest to home. Not into EDM acts or Rap, but I do like that they have some good ones for others at all the festivals. Spreads the crowd out. I'm into pretty much everything else, rock, alt-rock, heavy, reggae, folk, blues, a little country, this is my 40th year going to concerts. We'll try and meet at Beal st. along with some other Inforooers
Ugh I have so much stuff planned this summer and no monies. I may come up for one day to see you guys though. I can't have so many of my fav people that close to me and not see them.

Yes. Silkys is great. So is the small park where they play live music right down the street. Wet Wllies is right there too if youre into adult slurpees. I had a sober Beale st. Last year, this year it will probably end my marriage haha. I plan on getting shit faced before i board the plane. Pre game on Beale st. Is the best pre game in the game, if that makes any damn sense.
I'm excited to spend more time with you fine inforoo folks this year. Last year was fun but this year will be a lot more funner...
I'm very interested in coming for just Friday the way that the schedule worked out. I could come to town early enough to eat at Rendezvous and then I could post up at the same stage the whole day and see Lenny Kravitz, Ryan Adams, Jenny Lewis, and Spin Doctors.
rendezvous.... now im hungry! can't go to memphis without it.
Post by FuzzyWarbles on Apr 17, 2015 21:47:40 GMT -5
I've tried both and prefer the charcoal ribs from Rendezvous and that cole slaw is the best I've had. If I was craving anything other than those two items I might go to Central instead.

Gross. Tourist shit.
Go to Central.
Rendezvous.. Overrated? Absolutely. Touristy? Absolutely. But shiz ain't bad. They know how to cook ribsthat are better than most (esp Nashville's excuses for BBQ). I wouldn't rec going during bsmf when they will be slammed all weekend.
You right tho, central is top notch. The BBQ shop is the best IMHO.
And this is probably a long shot, but my wife used to bartend at the Holiday inn downtown, and she would go for drinks at the Huey's across the way ( on union, they "the best" burgers in Memphis, but that's another debate) after her shift ended. Last time FLips were there she met Wayne and co. Having a beer in there the night before and talked to em for a bit. he really liked the place. So, there's that. And if you need some food their Madison ave burger and onion rings are delish. IF silkys is busy. A diver among friends is the way to drink.

So who is everybody excited to see? Myself, people or bands I haven't seen Lenny Kravitz - Breaking Benjamin - Spin Doctors - Wilco - Hozier - Kaiser Chiefs - Cage The Elephant - and Elle King. I will most likely choose these over others I've seen, Ryan Adams - B.O.H. - Soul Asylum. Seen & can't miss, Avett Brothers - Slash - Flogging Molly - Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band & Indigenous. Full plate for me, not bad for a 75 dollar ticket.

I will not forget about the Blues tent either, always great shows in the tent. Just doesn't seem to be spread out as well as past years with staggering the times, they screwed that up.

Rendezvous is not overrated. That shit is great. Touristy, of coure. Its one of the top rated barbecue places in the country. The lamb ribs are the best.

You're going to lose your vegetarian membership with talk like that.

We have a group of 7 going this year and cannot wait! This will be our 5th trip in 6 years. We are leaving out on Thurs, driving to Clarksdale Ms and staying the night at the Ground Zero Blues Club. After a night of ridiculous drinking, we will get up on Friday morning and drive to Memphis. The house we rented on south main wont be ready until 1 or 2ish, so thinking we might go check out the new Bass Pro Shop at the pyramid. Heard that is the opening week for that.. Does anybody know?
After that, I doubt ill be sober all weekend! Its my one time of the year to really cut loose. My wife loves it, yet hates it... ha ha
Wanna do Silky's on Sat at like 1 or 2? We did Silky's last year, Gus's the year before. Waited forever at Gus's but got schwilly on the sidewalk with some 40's.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Listen buddy, the wine dementia has swiss cheesed my brain. I had to go through this thread page by page, editing and adding two names at a time. Now that you have said something you have to show up!

Outside in the beer garden?
yes. It is pretty busy then, but we were able to get a table last year.

Is anyone staying by the airport? We ended up with a shitty hotel in a questional neighborhood by the airport. I think it is about 18 minutes away. Oh well. What I get for procrastinating.

We always make our reservations as soon as we get back from the festival. Ive had problems getting a room 6 months out before. This year we rented a house, 2 blocks off beale and 2 blocks from the park. Cannot wait!

Nice! I made the decision to go this year very last minute. I get my hotels on Hotwire for super cheap. 2 years ago we got the Madison for cheap. There was just nothing available this late that wasn't big $$$. Oh well. It will be a great time no matter what.

nerdbyrd. When are you driving to Memphis? I am flying into Little Rock this year on Wednesday night and flying back out of Little Rock on Monday morning.
