Something about a blues band live. TTB's live jams are crazy. Ditto NMA. Their recordings from Bonnaroo are also amazing. I guess that is true of most bands. Leon Russell's Jumping Jack Flash medley from Concert for Bangladesh still blows me away. String Cheese, Umph, Warren Haynes, Trey A, and WSP all jammed well at Hangout. I want some more of that next May at Hangout after dark.
Also right by AJs is a bad ass sushi place called Harbor Docks. Damn, I haven't been there in forever. Also decent prices and a cool scene for casual at Red Bar in Grayton ( west 30A). There are some good food trucks and Bud and Alleys which is great but expensive if you go all the way to Seaside. In Niceville across the bay, is a guy I went to school with many years ago. I haven't been yet, but probably next time I'm blowing through that part of Okaloosa County, I'm gonna hit up Dockside. www.mydocksidecafe.com/index.html
Oh and my boy who spends a lot of time in Grayton and eats better than anyone I have ever met swears by Fish out of Water. I shot him a text for anything else he recommends (currently at some iron chef restaurant in Chicago)
Vandy and Virginia championship game on ESPN. Good game. Hanging on the deck listening to a Michael McDonald blues jam with cold brew. That dude has an amazing voice.
We need to plan a mid year meet up on the gulf somewhere. Ideas? Are there winter fests near Gulf Shores? Maybe we should create one...
There's a HUGE winter fest down here that we like to refer to as MARDI GRAS! There are parades leading up to it for almost three weeks, but during the last week they're going on all day, every day Saturday thru Fat Tuesday. Parades are free to everybody and anybody, but if anybody on the list would like to experience an actual ball, let me know and I can probably hook you up with tickets.
Lucky you. I'd rather go to Gulf Shores, but alas, Destin it is. I'm really counting on whoever it is that lives in Destin, though I forgot who, and Bob, for some solid tips.
Matt, My friend who lives there and would definitely know where to go said "Dewey destin (the original), mcguires, bucks bbq. Red door saloon for drinks". Have fun. I quit going to Destin when my son outgrew Big Kahuna and the traffic got completely out of hand. Definitely prefer Pensacola to Ft Morgan these days.
Oysterhead and Primus would definitely be a fun show. Never seen them and gave their material a listen on iTunes. Remind me of Alice Cooper or maybe Barefoot Jerry.
Chick...I think I have been to my last mardi gras. Twas great, polluted, lucky to be home, took two weeks and many showers to recover. My boots turned green from whatever was in the streets.
Maybe I'll get lucky and my Tennessee Vols will wind up in a bowl game in New Orleans or close. Definitely plan to get down to Pensacola and visit with my cousin. We usually hit Rosie O'Gradys Northwest Florida Blues Society on Monday nights or their annual competition in the fall.

You must have gone to New Orleans. Mobile Mardi Gras is a totally different experience. Lots cleaner and very family friendly.
