Enjoying some new Ray Wylie Hubbard and old Waylon Jennings. They go well with cold beer on a warm, humid middle Tennessee evening. Ray Wylie would be fun on the Hangout Restaurant stage.

There's gonna' be a Waylon tribute show on the 5th or 6th in Austin. ..."all star" lineup kind of deal.
I'll be flying back from San Jose on Monday the 6th. Might be able to detour to Austin. I think I am going to put all my resources into a Volunteer Jam ticket in Nashville. My dad listened to Waylon, Johnny, Willie, and the more "rebelling" country performers. I listened to CDB, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Amazing Rhythm Aces, Jerry Jeff, and followed in the "rebelling" performer genre. Gimme a small bar, someone like these guys playing "take this job and shove it" or equal, a cold beer, and I am in heaven on earth. Guess that is why I enjoyed Drive By Truckers, Jason Isbell, Zac Brown Band, and Blackberry Smoke so much. They are carrying on that genre of music. I guess you might call it "God Fearing, Rebel Rousing, Southerners". Who can we get to fill this bill at Hangout next year?

The first tape I ever bought was Waylon and so were the next three. The "Outlaws" came from a time and place and made music that will never be replicated. On the country side, Sturgil Simpson and Chris Stapleton are the only guys I know that get close. On the rock side, Drivn'n'Cryin' can join that list above.
I like his covers of Suspicious Minds and Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Also like Thousand Miles from Nowhere. His Live and Greatest Hits are a couple of my favorites. Don't think he would be a good Hangout pick though.

Are you planning to do Pilgrimage Fest Bob?
Thanks for the Chris Stapleton suggestion...looked them up...really good. Also gave Steel Drivers a listen. Their June 2016 Muscle Shoals release is some excellent bluegrass. I thought OCMS really turned it on and up for Hangout and their performance was packed. Steel Drivers or an OCMS return would be welcome. Warren Haynes is amazing and his latest "dubstep" album is awesome. Drivn'n'Cryin' is also new to me but, definitely rock and would love to see them at Hangout.
Pilgrimage Festival looks awesome in terms of artists. I have a commitment for the weekend with friends coming in for high school reunion and blowout all weekend. Maybe I will get to see some of the Pilgrimage artists I haven't seen or missed at the next Hangout. Should've made the Lone Bellow show. Sheryl Crow lives in Nashville and hoping to catch her somewhere soon. Band of Horses and Grand Southern would be two I would like to see. I have heard that traffic and general festival congestion/access in Franklin will be a problem.
...some weekend music for any 90's Seattle lovers...this is an album I've had for a few weeks and it's pretty good...They recorded it in the late 90's, but then broke up and it got shelved...the drummer put it out in '11...cheers!
i was thinking does anyone think Umph comes back next year and get the co-headline slot back?
Nope back to sts9 if I had to guess. I'd be happy to see neither on the lineup though if I'm to be honest. I feel like those two bands and flaming lips are over used at hangout in their short span of life. What about lettuce?

Lettuce is awesome but they aren't at that level. Tribe kicked ass in 14. That was easily a top set from that year's festival. Umphreys was great this year. I'd be happy if one or both was always there because they aren't going to pussyfoot or play to trends. I realize that's not going to happen. Lettuce seems like a Thursday night act but they could probably play Paladia or Surf easily at this point.
The SEC - the only division league or conference in football where fans root for their most hated rival teams. I find that lame since its been 10 years since anyone disrespected it.

kinda feela like Umph is owed one for moving into a mid day slot for half the time. Paired with the good relationship both parties have i wouldn't be surprised to see Umph get that spot back in 2016 or 2017 at least. Give me lettuce all day though regardless, seeing them with umph next month.
Krisp - Dang we almost agree this morning - er - last night. Not much on lettuce unless its krisp LOL. I like Umph, but ready to open the slots up to someone else.
Esteban - I would enjoy seeing OCMS, Jason Isbell and/or Amos Lee every year, but gotta give them and us a break and bring in new sounds. I know people in other leagues that root for their rivals. I think that is part of if. We are all prejudice about something. North vs South, East vs West. I think the competition makes it all better. The trick is balancing the regulating/officiating/media/money and other business interests. That is why I don't like NASCAR sprint cup, but definitely enjoy the Infinity, Trucks and local dirt track racers. Also why I can't get into Pro Basketball, but enjoy college sports. Not sure I understand the "10 years since anyone disrespected it". GO VOLS!
Dang it is going to be a long wait for the next Hangout. OK...every year several bands you never heard of, for me it was Beck and MMJ this year, and some you wish you hadn't, Sam Smith, that jump up there and make it into the Hangout lineup. Who are the ones we haven't heard of and who do you hope doesn't show up on next years lineup?
Yeah. I'm speaking to the conference chant and little guy syndrome. I have family members who are sec graduates and homers. There was a time about 10 years back where the conference maybe didn't get its due. Then they went on a tear of successive football national championships. One of my cousins insists that the shameless self promotion was once done out of necessity and now more of as a reminder. I recall the sec chant at least back to the year Arkansas joined the conference and won the basketball championship.
You are a Volunteers fan. Most Tennessee fans really hate the Tide and vice versa. I mean that's hate. But then come bowl season, mfs are right there cheering for each other. I've seen that with LSU fans too. I'm an FSU fan. I want Miami to get attacked by wild dogs before crashing their bus into a North Carolina bus. All my Longhorn friends wish eternal ill will on OU. They aren't going to cheer for them in a national championship. At best they'd be employing gris gris hoping an earthquake opens up under OU and swallows up their team.
Look at it from the pro standpoint. I'm a Saints fan. Im not going to be pulling for the Panthers or Falcons in the post season and I'm not going to be chanting "NFC South! NFC South!" because I hate them. Today, tomorrow and always.
