Quick straw poll. If we could get a major act, let's say Sir Paul, but it meant some cuts, so they would need to get rid of the pre-party. Would you rather have Sir Paul and no pre-party, or pre-party and three general headliners?
I say Paul because I think Coachella might get him and with Goldenvoice having both fests and him playing Firefly last year, GV might go for the trifecta.
And if not Paul, who would be an act you'd give the pre-party up for?
Roger Waters hell yeah. Has anyone seen Tedeschi-Trucks Trucks besides me? They are really killing it on the festival circuit. New album likely next year. Would be awesome on the beach around sundown.
hung in tonight and just enojyed the 2014 hangout on Palladia, man i still get chills when OutKast comes on. Anyone know when this eyars will start airing?
also i would gladly take Paul, Bruce, Prince, etc instead of the pre party.

I've seen them a few times and will be again 8/4. I'd love them at Hangout.
I made the "better days" comment in reference to the atmosphere and "ease" of the fest, not the lineups. This past year was one of the best as far as lineups for me. But having been to all of them I can compare the crowds from one year to the other, and the hippy vibe that I loved so much is almost non-existant now compared to the first few years.
I hear ya. On the inverse, it seems like the police have sort of eased up every year that I've gone so even though the crowd isn't as hippie or jammy as it has been in the past, I feel like that's worked to sort of chill the edge down. I hope they continue to lean more toward non-interference as long as mfs aren't getting out of hand like the flakka guy at Wakarusa STS9 1st set or that bunghole at E Forest that jumped on stage and intentionally knocked over some of Zoogma's equipment.
I didn't especially like the new extended "pat down" they brought this year, but once I was in the fest I didn't even notice the police presence. Other than that the worst thing I was exposed to was trying to keep friends from being stepped on by people in a hurry who weren't watching (or were too drunk to watch) where they were going.

The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan or Elton John. Screw the Thursday preparty. We can make our own.

I had front row seats in the VIP for that dude and the other chick that was tripping balls. May have been 10+ security guards on em. Ahhhh what a night. Miss having ya as a neighbor
Maaan I'll even take Heartbyrne if we could get em. Talking heads and Devo, last year lacked a legend group so let's bring two back.
You don't consider Beck a legend?
I suppose. I mean, he certainly has carved out his status as a future legend. Beck is no more a legend at time then Dave Grohl.
I guess I think of a legend as someone who hasn't got much time left honestly. Stevie and Tom Petty are perfect examples. Willie Nelson is up there certainly. Maybe an act whom was popular before the 90s.
Make no mistake, I loved Beck and he deserves all the love.

IMO...Beck was not a legend from a classic rock sense. I had never heard of him til 2015. I enjoyed his show though not like Tom Petty. Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Dylan, McCartney, Springsteen, ZZTop, and many others have had hits in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and since 2000 so they qualify for that title. Times change and since FM radio has taken a backseat to MTV, iTunes, Pandora, YouTube, and the dollars have blown the music biz up or down, not sure we will ever see these cross generational bands anymore. Someone will prove me wrong with an exception, but I think that is rare. Would love to have Clapton at Hangout. Missed getting the Allman Bros last year.
Beck was prob right outside that legend status but he put on a show that was worthy this year. I would glady take Beck over a handful of other "legends"
No complaints with Beck performance. I enjoyed all three headliners, but hope HOMF avoids returning headliners after 2015. I'm OK with returning bands that worked their way up with new music like Delta Rae, Jason Isbell, and Amos Lee to name a few. But, too many great bands to repeat. EDM might be a different thing since they play over so many covers and constantly introducing new tunes in their shows.
I would take Paul instead of the pre-party in a heart beat!
Side note: Incubus was great last night in Cincinnati but Deftones stole the show and were AMAZING! But my husband kept looking at me saying that he wished he was at Hangout listening to them lol!
Pre-party is ok...but, last year was so screwed up with musicians not showing, sound going off mid-set, not letting The Word jam a little longer, and that awful access problem, that I would definitely prefer getting a more popular headliner with the money. Peter Gabriel would be awesome and does qualify as a classic. I saw him perform at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction and he is amazing. That might be another criteria, member of Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Arrowsmith would put on a good show. Man, I saw them with Kiss and Bob Seger in the '70s at Nashville Municipal...geez. The Rolling Stones definitely qualify. It gives me hope seeing some 70 year olds bounce around a stage singing "Bitch" and not missing a beat. The amount of time they put into warm-ups was impressive. Cheap Trick or the B-52s would be a fun pre-party two-some if they decided to go that way. I would buy a pre-party ticket for a couple blasts from the past.
Some new albums with promise of headliners or pre-headliners: Don Henley (a little to the folk/Americana and even country side but, I like it and he has definitely a bucket full of hits), Warren Haynes (yes, he would be a repeat and I think he played when WSP headlined before, but the dude cranks out new and different sounds. His new album Ashes and Dust is also folk/Americana with Grace Potter (New album 14 August "Midnight") and Railroad Earth who are also HOMF alums, is really good). Roger Waters new album is good, but would rather have David Gilmour (New album in September "Rattle that Lock"). Chris Cornell has a new album coming out soon "Higher Truth". Deftones as well as Incubus have new albums due out this fall sometime. KOL and MMJ will likely both put new albums out, but again, would rather see someone new. Finally, No Doubt and Radiohead will be touring for their new albums next May.
Radiohead/No Doubt/Don Henley, Incubus/Radiohead/Chris Cornell, or Radiohead/Chris Cornell/David Gilmour. I could go for one of those lineups.

Wait, how do you know this? Have they said so in an interview or something that I missed? OR are you just assuming they'll be done with the album and will consequently be touring it?
Since the pre-party is a seperately ticketed event, there really wouldn't be any. "extra" dollars gained to invest in talent for the main fest. I know the ticket is included in VIP, but I have to think the savings would be minimal. That said, the pre-party really laid an egg this year, so I could see them either making a big effort to improve or just doing away with it altogether.
It didn't totally suck. Keys N Krates was great. The Word and Grandtheft were pretty alright too. Clearly had Break Science not gotten stuck in the Atlanta Airport, it would have been pretty damn excellent. So I would disagree with it being a laid egg. It certainly wasn't all it could be, but with KNK saving the night with the last slot, it was a C in my opinion.
Yes, I am assuming tours will follow release of new music.
I would have gone to pre-party for The Word by themselves and believe I got my money's worth. I hope you are correct about being better prepared and beefing it up or letting it go. I would rather allow fewer and better acts to play longer. Also do something with Palladia stage. Take it from just OK to a really nice venue.
I have enjoyed six HOMFs so small changes please and don't mess it up.
