...firstly, note "potential". Mayer is definitely a vocal improvement over everyone except Hornsby, and that's probably a push. I guess it is a stretch to assume he can elevate a tune like Trey, but if Clapton and the 'Core 4' think you're good, I'll give you a shot too. I hope they do a big tour.
I guess we disagree. I hate Mayers voice on Dead tunes. He sounds drunk, sleepy and mushy-mouthed/strained. I bet it ends up being a 8-10 show fall tour al la Ratdog tours. Bobby even said its getting late to start scheduling.
Ha, I could see that being the description of his voice....it's just not distracting to me like some are.
Heck yeah...but already committed to visit my son in California mid-October. But, yeah...perfect Bob kinda lineup. I will keep this one in mind for next year. Love to see pretty much all these performers next year at HOMF.
Bruce Springsteen | Green Day | Dead & Company | Lorde Calvin Harris | John Mayer | Vampire Weekend | Nicki Minaj| Oysterhead Dr. John | Missy Elliot | Billy Idol | Moby | Chromeo | Purity Ring Old Crow Medicine Show | The Dismemberment Plan | Rebelution | Q-Tip Jimmy Cliff | Tycho | Presidents of the USA| Beach House | Japandroids Neon Indian | Asaf Avidan | Waxahatchee | Hundred Waters | Sarah Jaffe | Ari Hest | Particle | Meiko
I would go strictly for The Dismemberment Plan. VW and Neon Indian would be added bonuses.
Saw Tedeschi Trucks on Tuesday and it was a great show. Better than when I saw them at Peach last year I don't know if they have enough recognizable material to the average music fan to be a pre-headliner at a major fest. They're usually second or third line even at the "hippy" festivals. They're fourth on their night alone of Lockn' this year which would equate to 10th or so on the poster if you looked at it that way. I think they'd be a good add. Just don't think they would be that high at Hangout.
I have been keeping up with them on their world tours and recent shows. They have played with a lot of folks and play a lot of their material as well as covers. They played "Don't Think Twice It's Allright" in Chattanooga. Since pre-headliners only have about an hour and a half, I'm sure they could play the pre-closer on Chevy-Surf-East beach stage. Give "Everybody's Talkin" their double live album a listen sometime...wow! You have to remember they were three or four albums into their careers before they got hitched and playing together.
Yeah I was a big Derek Trucks band guy. They play a lot of the fests that I frequent. They just havent had that high of a billing at any type of major fest outside of the jam band circuit and even there they are usually second or third line. They did a bunch of the Sly and the Family Stone covers, My Baby Wrote me A Letter and such. I enjoy them very much and would love to see them on the beach. Had a three minute conversation with Derek at Peach Fest last year and he's one of the coolest dudes I've met.
Either heading to Umphreys McGee in Buffalo shortly or some local band within walking distance of home.
Correct me if I'm wrong but are you two saying that you would NOT want Metallica to headline? Because, if so, that's hysterical considering. Metallica is a far better headliner than almost all of the headliners that HOF has had so far.

Consider yourself corrected because they want Metallica! As do we all!

Ok ok, thank god that's the case, I was going to give up hope on this thread if the consensus was that y'all didn't want Metallica. Metallica on the beach would kick serious ass. As if it wasn't already hard to stay on your feet in a circle pit, try doing one in the sand!
Yeah Fore Ive been pretty outspoken about how I wish Hangout would get a heavier headliner like that but I know they won't because of the "vibe." You can throw TOOL and NIN in the same boat.
Metallica on the beach would require me flying my son in from CA for it. Father and son event to the max. I'd vote for Metallica if we got some balance overall. Like Santana on Sunday.

Remember, at one point that's what everyone thought about Bonnaroo and it just so happens that Metallica was the band was the first really big, heavy band that Roo booked (same goes for Lolla I believe) so why not Hangout next? Just saying, it's not the most far fetched thing to hope for and definitely see far crazier/less likely things get thrown around in here (TOOL is whole different story though.)
If any "heavier" act could make headliner, it would be Metallica. Wishful thinking, but Id be happy w that and two dull headliners and a strong undercard. Metallica and Florence and Im game.
And what about Smashmouth? Lets got some Smashmouth on the beach!

I caught some flack for it a while back, but I would be so excited to see Tame Impala ---> Kings of Leon to close a night. Even more so if it was flipped.

easily my least fav mock for the undercard. Is 30 Seconds To Mars putting out new music or expected to?
I definitely like Zen's Saturday and Muse on Friday night. Overall, Creates a lot of free time while getting to see Muse/KOL/Springsteen, Grace and TTB. I wound up at the pool from 1-4 PM this year so solid later afternoon and evening performers are what I am looking for.
I am all in for the Decemberists. Are they the only folk-acoustics on the mock lineup? Maybe add a couple in this genre like; Chris Stapleton, OCMS, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Kacey Musgraves, and Mattlikesrock had a really good bluegrass band I would like to see but can't remember their name.
I would rather see Grace, then TTB, then KOL 1-2-3 on Hangout Stage. That would definitely keep a lot of people from having to navigate between the Surf and Main stage on Saturday night. I would think the AWOLnation and Ryan Adams fans would most likely stay for Deadmau5. Anyone besides me for lining up three similar fan based acts on Main and Chevy to cut down on pedestrian traffic jams?
I could see Friday headliner being one of; Taylor Swift, Ed Sheerhan, Pit Bull, as well as Muse. For me, Muse would be my choice with Sheeran second but, Pit Bull on the beach would be a party. I thought this was a pretty good comment from someone on a CoS article - "The pining for the Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Bruno Mars-level acts is exactly what will finally pop the festival bubble. Let them play the Super Bowl, where the obnoxious, over-produced and tone-deaf music can fall on the appreciative ears of people with no obvious sense of discern. As you've all noted, the smaller, weirder festivals wind up the most rewarding, and it isn't even close. Who the hell wants to fight crowds all day to see their favorite bands play through midday heat only to be rewarded with "I Kissed A Girl" and the kind of people who actually showed up to hear it? Give it another 5-10 years, when all of the legacy rock acts finally cash out, and folks will decide it really isn't worth $600+ for a weekend of listening to the same shit you hear at Target, the supermarket, and, well, the Super Bowl. "
I thought this was a pretty good assessment in CoS - consequenceofsound.net/2015/06/top-10-music-festivals-headliners-in-north-america-spring-2015/ Agree that KOL, Black Keys, Jack White, etc are getting worn. I would love to see MMJ come back and close Main Stage on Saturday night though. They were/are fantastic on the beach. Still intrigued by Florence in the Machine and they/she would be a new act for Hangout and fun on the beach. Kinda like Beck though...not as wide a fan base and following around south Alabama.
I would rather trade Springsteen for bands that really capture the "toes in the sand" aspect of HOMF. I've seen Springsteen three times and he rocks, but think one of these would be a better fit; Fleetwood Mac, Boz Scaggs, CSNY, Santana, Eagles, Buffett. Bruce strikes me as more of a downtown concrete and steel, smoke and tail lights kinda performer.
Taylor swift is fine even though I don't give a crap about her music. Her only problem is how much she is to book. Pitbull, like Kanye West and Iggy Azelia, should just stop existing (musically).
I read where Drake was considered worst spring 2015 festival act and totally bombed coachella. Add him to the list above; Kanye, pit bull, Taylor Swift that I hope never play HOMF.
Kanye bcuz he is terrible live and Tay bcuz the avg age of the fest would drop even younger, however if there was a sweet tent closer oppo i prob wouldnt care as much, but still, no thanks.
my first point is 100000% true from experience. You might be right on Taylor but i still think it would get even younger, more annoying corwd compared to the norm. She dosent appear to play festivals anyway so its not something im ever gonna worry about unless it was like Roo or coachella
Kanye bcuz he is terrible live and Tay bcuz the avg age of the fest would drop even younger, however if there was a sweet tent closer oppo i prob wouldnt care as much, but still, no thanks.
Your first point is flat out untrue and your second is laughable considering that pretty much every large multi-genre festival in the U.S. has been skewing younger and younger for years. I'd wager that the relative ages of the people who would travel to The Beach for The Hangout to watch Taylor Swift aren't very different from the ages of those who would go for Sam Smith and Skrillex and Foster the People and Paramore and so on.
He is a hack. He is boring. He is an ass. He is predictable. He should go back to being a college dropout.
Your second point contradicts itself. You agree that festivals keep lowering their demographic age and then say Taylor Swift would bring the same age group (thus not changing the age demographic, which you just mentioned one sentence prior). Ne215's is certainly debatable, but must you consistently sound like a jackass on this board?
