I don't disagree with Juggern in this. But I also don't think a lot of people would skip Hangout just because Taylor Swift would headline. (Btw, I'm perfectly fine with seeing Muse and Calvin Harris again). I think what ends up happening is the "younger" portion of the crowd (as he said, those who would typically be attracted to Foster the People, Paramore or Sam Smith) just gravitates to those sets and maybe you end up with a higher concentration of super young crowd at those particular shows. I went by the back of Tegan and Sarah for about 10 minutes in 2014 with my daughter, and it was about 75% girls. While anecdotal, it seemed like that was a concentration of younger people. The flip side of that is stuff like Andrew WK or Motorhead that have appeal to a decidedly older crowd.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that people who are going to go, are going to go anyway. They'll just be occasionally fractured by age/sex/straight vs. party/etc. at certain sets. Maybe some kids who otherwise wouldn't go might be attracted, just like a Metallica headline could bring some people from South Alabama that might otherwise not be going. But I don't think it would be material unless the majority of the festival was geared to specific demographics.
Your first point is flat out untrue and your second is laughable considering that pretty much every large multi-genre festival in the U.S. has been skewing younger and younger for years. I'd wager that the relative ages of the people who would travel to The Beach for The Hangout to watch Taylor Swift aren't very different from the ages of those who would go for Sam Smith and Skrillex and Foster the People and Paramore and so on.
He is a hack. He is boring. He is an ass. He is predictable. He should go back to being a college dropout.
Your second point contradicts itself. You agree that festivals keep lowering their demographic age and then say Taylor Swift would bring the same age group (thus not changing the age demographic, which you just mentioned one sentence prior). Ne215's is certainly debatable, but must you consistently sound like a jackass on this board?
Your first point only proves that a lot of people strongly dislike Kanye. It says nothing about the quality of his music or live show. While it's popular to hate Kanye, he also has millions of huge fans, and his music is well-acclaimed by most critics. Your second point makes absolutely zero sense. What Juggs is saying is that regardless of the artists playing, festival attendance is becoming more and more dominated by younger folks. In other words, booking Taylor Swift is not going to significantly change the age demographics.
Certainly, the crowd demographics will vary artist to artist. That's why I think ne215s point is up for debate. Taylor Swift's value is uber high right now, so I wouldn't want them to shell out major $$$s to get her. This is inversely similar to Sam Smith, who probably was a cheap grab. Now, he could become a costly grab (even more so if he hadn't needed surgery).

You can be a fan of boring, overplayed hacks all you want. I'll follow artists who strive for new ideas, creativity, and respect for other musicians.
i like most of Kanye's music, basically up until My Beauftiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. However aside from his unbearable, childish, annoying rants mid show, the 2 sets i have seen have been nothing to write home about and i would call the last one incredibly boring (just a year ago), so boring the crowd didnt stay for his encore. If he were ever to headline a fest I was at it would be an easy pass for me no matter who was playing opposed

Never said I was a fan of Kanye. I just found your post to be extremely ignorant and ill-informed.
also back to Tay Tay i think that any fest (short of the major ones like ACL, Lolla, Roo, Coach, JazzFest) who is booking her would draw more interest/sales from fans who arent typically interested in music festivals which is where i think the age demo could drop some, not to mention the type of lineup i think it might bring if she was part of it.
Way to ruin the thread Juggern. Can't go 50 HoF pages without a wine fest from you. Here, you and Nowhereman can have the first slice of the wedding cake, the bride and groom won't mind.

I felt the age group last year was decent, but then again, we didn't hit a lot of edm acts where I feel most of underage and early 20s go to the most.
Agree with Nowhere about the general age declining. I know someone had a post with a link a year or two back that discussed the average age of attendees of specific festivals. I know ACL is one of the older "rock fest" crowds - was something like late 20's (27 or 28). Jazzfest and Newport Folk Fest have much, much older crowds than average. Voodoo is split since it's kind of multiple festivals in one (obviously the younger crowd tends to gravitate to the EDM stage whereas the oldest of us can often be found at the smaller stages seeing older acts like Melvins or Fishbone).
If I had to guess for Hangout, I'd say the average age was 25 or 26. There are a lot of us old fux that attend, but there are more high schoolers and collegians. Some shows we all merge on, some we diverge on. I'm going to see if I can find that story.

How many days do we have left?!
Ah yes, the old "my feeble arguments have been exposed for the wanton displays of brain flatulence that they are, so I'll just accuse him of being a jerk" defense. Well played.
Edit: what with Goldenvoice having had a year to get a feel for this BEACH THROWDOWN, my hopes are that they'll scrape together a good lineup and I can take a nice long weekend for some fun in the sun. So now I'm personally invested in this thread, and this festival, and in all of you.
I Love you, too. Lets continue this discussion on the beach over some beeritas.

I would need a livestream of Juggs attending Hangout.

I echo this statement. GV has had more than a year to survey the landscape that is Hangout and what they can do to improve the product and continue it's successes. This is a really important year for Hangout, since I think this is really the first year of GV influence on booking. I'm hoping GV can give Hangout some slam dunk acts without having to make many sacrifices.
I think my first worry about Hangout booking a huge headliner (McCartney, Springsteen, Fleetwood, etc.) is the effect it could have on the middle to lower end of the bill, like at Firefly this past year. Then I remembered that Firefly is 4 days and they have always been a kind of generic festival, and then it doesn't worry me so much. If GV shells out enough dough to pay them and keep everything else status quo, everything should be fine.
Dudes having pissing contests on a Friday afternoon sucks.
That is all.
My roommate in college's dad could make it over a powerline/telephone wire and was/is the undisputed pissing champ even on a Saturday. At this age, it would be satisfied with a 6 foot stream. Pwnd

They picked up Buku this week. Not that there was ever an issue with booking Buku because Buku partners with Huka who I think did a great job with Hangout when they used to work with them (though obviously not everyone will agree with that).
