if I do voodoo I'll be going GA for the first time in a long time.
You know you want to buy mine. I will even take hetti vinyl trades as partial payment. C'mon, you were my only hope in here. Otherwise I'll have to deal with craigslist/ebay/stubhub goobers.
So glad that I just did GA this year. And side note, remember when GA was only $75 for presale a few years ago?
To be fair, it was only $99+dick fees this year to about $109 or something close to that. GA pre-sale is a good value buy considering it's 3 days for just over the cost of ordinary shows like Deftones/Incubus. As long as they keep the total dollar of the 3 day weekend to < $150.00, I'm good with it because I know I will easily get my money's worth.
I know and I bought the $99. Was just reminiscing over that $75 GA ticket I bought in 2010 (for 2011) and 2011 (it was $77 in 2011 for 2012). The $99 is totally worth it. As far as parking, there is free spots just as close as the LOA parking, you just got to know your way around City Park.

don't count on me, but if for some reason i decide to go voodoo LOA, i'll holler at you first for sure.

I'm prob going to split Florence/Jack U on Friday, Ozzy + co. on Sat, Deadmau5 on Sunday (for the headliners). For $150, that's ridiculous just to be able to see all that. I have to ask then... how much better is the LOA pass? There's no way I'll convince my friends to pay another $350, but I might as well ask.
a bunch of my roo friends are going. and I want to too. a music fest on halloween?! so tempted...
If I don't move in with Jeremy before Voodoo, I have an extra room/bed. If I do move in with Jeremy, I will have a couch, and a couple rooms (we shouldn't have his kids that weekend due to Voodoo).

After last year, I am waiting for them to prove LOA is worth it again. It is NOT worth it at the $500 price tier.

It's pretty fun. It's never without glitches, and it's a city vs. camping fest. But everyone dresses up on Halloween day and many people also will dress up for the surrounding days. Even some of the bands dress up as Jared Letto last year came as Jesus (or thereabouts) and Zedd was dressed as Skrillex. Slayer, well, they were Slayer and didn't need costumes. \m/
If you want an idea of what it's like, do a google image search for Voodoo Fest and for Voodoo fest Costumes and you will get some good returns. We always have a blast. One thing to note is that since we're such a late night town, the fest is usually pretty empty until 2:30ish. So if there is someone you want to see early, you'll pretty much have the front row for any of the 4 stages. Also, as we've all said before, Halloween here is getting almost as big as Mardi Gras (and bigger in the Faubourg Marigny (Frenchmen Street) and also in the French Quarter. The party goes on until after sunrise, and there are some overnight shows around town. Gravity A usually does a "Bacchanal" with some other bands that will run past dawn. We used to go, but lately you can't get near the bar they've been doing it in (Blue Nile) so hopefully if they do it again this year, it will be somewhere larger. This "New Orleans Halloween" search will give you an idea of what a madhouse it has become. www.google.com/search?q=voodoo+fest+costumes&biw=1152&bih=720&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=_P2KVaziI4ipgwT4v4PoAw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg#tbm=isch&q=new+orleans+halloween
I'm 99% in for Voodoo and already have my ticket. But there is about a 1% chance I'll blow out this year only for Hulaween. That lineup is killing me even though I have plenty enough to like at Voodoo.

yayy! I would love that! I'll let you know. I may not decide for a bit, but considering I've never been to NOLA and halloween is my favorite holiday.... it's very very tempting.

Definitely! Just let me know, and no matter what you have a place to crash. Halloween in NOLA is awesome (and not just because its basically my birthday).

I'm so pumped for all that is New Orleans Halloween. We got a condo right in the Treme area about a 10-15 walk from the French Quarter. General plan is to hangout and site see during the day, cab it to the festival in late afternoon, cab it back to the French quarter once the festival is over each night at 11PM. None of us have been to New Orleans before, so it just makes it that much more exciting. And Halloween is on the Saturday? I mean hot damn.

Cabbing can be a ***** after Voodoo and might take a while. Uber will be in bezerk mode, so it's probably going to be through the roof. Don't sleep on shuttle passes back to downtown which I think some on here have said they've done in year's past. The lines can be long, but they're pretty efficient. Also, last year with Outkast, everyone showed up Halloween afternoon and the lines went nuts. They had that under control for Saturday and Sunday, and I don't think this year's Friday lineup will bring in as many people all at once (and it's not Halloween). Where are y'all staying in the Treme, one of the hotels or B&B's on Esplanade? Because if so, you'll only be a few blocks walk to Frenchmen and the FQ is basically the west side of Esplanade Ave. It's going to be nuts for sure, but logistically it can be tough around 11:00ish. If you have patience, you'll be back where you need to be (on the streets) within an hour or so. Another alternative is biking. I don't know if y'all are flying in or driving in, but a bike could literally save you an assload of time. It's maybe a 10 minute bike ride (with bike lanes) from the river down Esplanade to City Park, and they have racks for hundreds of bikes at Voodoo. That's just a suggestion to get around any transportation issues. Luckily we pretty much just walk. It's about 10 blocks or so, and there is a bar on the corner by my house (Wit's Inn) that sells plastic cup 1-quart sized mixed drinks for like $8 or $9. So those are pretty easy to lay that base and get us to the gates.

We're right near the corner of Villere St. and Espalante that we rented from AirBNB. It's like a house that's split into condos or something. I don't think any of us will be in any condition to use a bike. Shuttle passes may be a good idea, do they continue until everyone is gone? It says the shuttle ends at 11PM, which would be right when the show ends haha. Looks like it's about 3.6 miles from where we are. That would be a bitch of a walk but I guess it's an option. Maybe we can walk to a different area that won't be as crowded to get a cab?

Get the cab idea out of your head right now, it is 90% chance that you won't be able to catch one. They are next to impossible to get during Jazzfest, Voodoo fest and Mardi Gras. The shuttle runs after the shows are over and are usually pretty good. Also, I wouldn't walk 3.6 miles that late at night in New Orleans personally. I am not sure how Uber will be, since it is still relatively new here. They have places that do rent bikes on Esplanade further down, closer to the quarter/Marigny area. The buses run pretty regularly also. I am not sure of the routes, but you can go www.norta.com to get routes, times and there is an app also that is pretty impressive.
It's shorter than the route it gave you, as 500 Esplanade (is essentially the river) to New Orleans Museum of Art comes out to be 2.9. You guys are closer in than the river but of course you still have to walk a few blocks thru the park once behind NOMA. We live close, so I haven't had to dick around with transportation, so I can't be of much more help there. I wouldn't worry much about walking Esplanade if it came to that. It's a pretty major street and isn't really that sketchy. Particularly don't worry on Halloween. Yall are maybe 10ish blocks to R Bar and Frenchmen Street area and a little closer in to the lower quarter. Frenchmen will be where the biggest street party is at on Hallowen night.

So what's the deal with all the problems I read about from last year? The bathrooms? The sound bleed? The sight lines? The general organization? Is that overblown?
BTW saw Skrillex and Flux Pavilion randomly showed up somewhere on Frenchmen St. at 4am and played a set at a local club. That's pretty badass.

Overblown IMHO. There was one set of bathrooms that apparently didn't have signs (we had no trouble finding them, and there were few lines there). There wasn't much soundbleed I heard. 2013 had bigger issues as The Cure vs. Bassnectar vs. Dr. John left some sparse parts of Dr. John swimming in bass. The only sound issue we had was for Outkast. We were facing the left side of the stage (stage right), and winds were like 35-40mph from that direction. So it was a little hard to hear Andre 3000. But I talked to people on the right side of the stage that said it sounded perfect. So that was more of an environmental situation from the super strong winds on Halloween night. I didn't notice any issues with sight lines. Wherever I was at whatever stage was easy enough to see. You can pretty much get front row or near that for either of the smaller 2 stages for almost any set. They always have glitches, but it only USUALLY matters to whiners like what was on Festival Snob's site. However, there was some aggravation from some of the better posters (Postjack and I think Longinus had some issues last year). My biggest issue was trying to walk home on Saturday and Sunday nights. Ugh.
As for the Skrillex party at Dragon's Den, yeah, you will usually have some after parties that are unannounced. There are only like 3 or 4 DJ type bars in the city. So if you are at one of those, then chances are someone major will pop in (or minor if it's a small bar like Willow). There are often parties in the CBD as there is some warehouse in there that hosts semi-off-the-radar DJ parties (Windows 98 was one of several DJ's who played there last year for Buku afterparty). Otherwise Dragon's Den will probably have someone show up as that's kind of the main late night DJ club near Frenchmen. You never know who is going to show up in NOLA, but that's the way it is here. Whoever is in town and free will either post up or sit in with someone else.
Ultimately you won't come away from Voodoo thinking that was the most organized and together festival there is. No way. But it's not bad. Cop presence is mostly passive (security checks at the gate can vary). 80% of the crowd will be trashed, but they are generally pretty well behaved - of course mileage may vary with electronica ragers. They have particularly good food there for a festival (if you look). And don't hesitate to stop by some of the sponsor tents. I went to JD last year and they basically poured me a glass of whiskey for the $9.00 price of that mixed drink. You might want to read the reviews and after-voodoo stuff. I reviewed daily, Sgt. Blotter has one of the bests recaps in the history of Inforoo. Others chimed in, and you can see what Postjack and Longinus went off on.

Oh trust me, I just came from Firefly. There's no way Voodoo could be worse in terms of organization unless they tried. As usual, good info esteban.

I went off on stuff too. Friday night was very unorganized to get in for GA (I was already there since noonish and had LOA) but the line was supposedly over 2 hours long to get in. People bitched about missing sets and it was pretty much chaos from what I heard. They fixed whatever the issue was on Saturday, but from what I saw FFF's lines were much worst the following weekend.
There were only two sets of bathrooms, one in the back between the main stage and ferris wheel, and one by the Le Plur stage. Most people couldn't find them because they put them behind a black mesh fenced area (fucking dumb). Most people didn't even know there were the second set over by the Le Plur since it was on the right side of the stage and once again behind a black mesh fence. There weren't lines once you found the bathrooms and there were a ton in that section, but it was daytime and we had to ask where they were. Side note, people will stand in lines to stand in lines. If you actually walked around there were always bathrooms open. DON'T STAND IN LINES FOR THE BATHROOM.
My biggest complaints were the LOA Main Stage viewing area being much smaller and some of the amenities that they had for LOA that weren't there anymore. And amenities that they had in the past for everyone were gone. Toyota wasn't sponsoring anymore and their mini stage and the free screened-printed posters and bandana are a thing of the past. Plus, all the cool things you could do while in their tent. The sponsors sucked and they didn't have as many perks as they have had in previous years. I had a bunch of other complaints, but like esteban said, Voodoo isn't the most organized or put together festival anymore.
I am not a fan of the new location either, but the layout and sound bleed was 100x better than 2013.
No problem Fists. I've gone the last 5 years, and I haven't had any issues at all personally except the complete inability to make a Voodoo aftershow. I know they did a kickoff show last year at HOB with Moon Taxi which I heard was packed (which is great, because I love Moon Taxi). I stayed home to make my costume and watch the Saints vs. Panthers. Turned out the game was pretty one-sided and ended early, so I could have still gone. But by that time, I wasn't driving... Now I'm not sure if the Odesza show is affiliated with Voodoo or if it's just a show The Joy jumped on figuring people would be in town and want to come. That could **** on whatever Voodoo is doing, but since it's already sold out (though they did release a few more tickets yesterday, not sure if they sold out as well), there should be room for another concert or two around town for the pre-kick off. *edit* The Joy website shows "Sold out" so I'm guessing the additional release sold out also. Great for them. I like Odesza, but I'm not a giant fan. Also, it's Winter Circle Productions who produces Buku Fest so this is a competitor-producer show.
Vieux,
Yeah, I remember you mentioning the bathrooms, but I think most of your complaints were about the VIP/LOA program. I've never done VIP for Voodoo, so I didn't include you on that. We knew where the bathrooms were the whole time which was great. And you're right. You really don't have to ever stand in line provided you go around the back. You'd think people know that by now, but I guess not.

Yeah, mine were mostly LOA complaints, hence me going back to GA this year. Even with all of Voodoo's bullshit, that $99 is too hard to pass up.
As far as the bathrooms, I have come to the conclusion that people just like to stand in lines. The masses are all followers and if they see a line, just assume that there is nothing open. I love the ones that bitch when you don't stand in line, like you are cutting them. Dumb. They will stand in lines for almost anything.
I went to the Moon Taxi show. One of the perks of LOA is you get certain late night shows for free, and that was one of them. It was stupid packed though. I don't make most aftershows either, but that is because I go to the festival early. The weather is absolutely perfect day and night at Voodoo 90% of the time. There are always daytime shows that I want to see, and its easy to still be fresh for the headliners because the weather is so nice. Just makes me too tired to go out afterwards (old lady here).
