See I can do it for Buku (though I willingly traded my STS9 Saturday after-party ticket for a spinning bed). But I got out to Snails/Trollphace on Thursday for the kick-off and Griz with Preservation Hall on Friday for that after-party. And Jazzfest, shit, I'll go out and do a couple of late night/2am sets over the course of those weekends. But as you know, Buku ends late and Jazzfest ends super early. Voodoo is that middle time that ends at 11:00. Like you, I generally go early so that's 9-10 hours in at that point and just no way to get snooze time in to recharge. Also agree on the presale value. Even if I didn't know anyone on a given year's lineup (which won't ever be the case), that's like $40/day after fees for 8-10 hours of music. It's a complete steal. I think they'll probably keep creeping up the price every year because they can when compared with most other festivals' presale prices. But I'm good as long as they don't go too haywire on the increases.

My biggest non-nitpicky issues were:
1. The wait to get in Friday evening. Luckily I was LOA so had no issues, but I couldn't help but feel empathic anxiety for those people waiting in line. The lines were ENORMOUS. Never have I seen anything like that at Voodoo before, in fact the GA lines every other year i've been were practically nonexistent. Hopefully this is just a one time event.
2. Shitty sound during Outkast. Shitty sound is a recurring problem at Voodoo, mostly on the main stage.
I didn't have any problem finding a bathroom, even out in GA land.
I know it sounds lame as hell but I personally was having a hard time locking into the "festival magic" during voodoo last year. but I firmly understand that is mostly a problem of my subjective perception.
Yeah, that Odesza set sold out in like a day or two. I saw part of 2 sets this year, and while they were decent, I really don't understand all the hype. Like I said a couple weeks ago, my favorite time seeing them was when they came out and played with Adventure Club. A lot of people I talked to have no problem listening to them but don't find their live performances inspiring. I'll be crawling into bed late night Voodoo as per usual.
They just played Buku which doesn't automatically serve as a disqualifier. The 10/30/15 show is being sponsored by Winter Circle Productions who promotes Buku and is a rival promotion to Voodoo/Live Nation/Hard. There are always behind the scenes jabs between Voodoo, Jazzfest and Buku here. For instance, Hard (which is co-owned by Live Nation) sponsored Go Hard during the 2nd weekend of Jazzfest. I guess it provides a way for the rival promotions to tap a target audience from other promotions for those who are in town to see live music and get a piece of that financial action.
What's kind of strange is Odesza is sold out for way more shows later on their tour than earlier. For instance, between now and October 17, only the Edmonton show is sold out on September 3. Then they go to New Zealand, Australia and Europe with no shows currently sold out. But then New Orleans is sold out 10/30; both Atlanta shows are sold out on 11/3 and 11/4; Richmond on 11/6; 2 shows in DC on 11/7 are sold out; Philly, NYC x 2 (3rd NYC show not yet sold out) and Boston are sold out, then Portland x 2 and Seattle x 2. Without knowing whether size of any of the venues listed has an impact, it's strange how certain bands have appeal to certain markets.

I thought about getting tickets for the Odesza show but I know committing to both Voodoo Friday night and then going over to the theatre will be a bit much for my group. We'll be drinking heavily somewhere in the quarter, hopefully after a midnight nap because I'm sure I'll be exhausted.

Right. They're out of Seattle which certainly explains the Seattle and Portland fans. They played a ton of festivals this year - I caught some of Buku and some of Hangout sets. Both were packed. And I know they're a bit chill - great percussionists though - for electronica, but as that "genre" continues to expand, I think there's more room for more musically eclectic acts. But being bigger in the US certainly explains why 75% of the shows here are sold out (vs. 5% Canada and overseas). But at the same time, I know the show here sold out in no time whereas there are others (sooner) that still have tickets. That's why I was guessing maybe it's the venues. I'm not sure what the Joy Theatre's capacity is here - looked it up, it's up to 1,200. Maybe some of the unsold venues are much larger (but so are the cities). It was more of an observation.
I'm gonna give Odesza one more shot but I just feel their live show is not up to par w the hype. We shall see. Estaban, I really starting to feel out Suwanee, especially since there is still another announcement to be made. I hope they add a few more hip hop groups like Waka did. I could see 2na showing up to this. Ahhh decisions!!!

You won't go wrong with either one. Collin is probably going to Hulaween. He loves SCI, GRiZ, Pretty Lights and the rest of the card. I'm doing Voodoo but I may head to Aura in the spring over at SoS
I remember when they came out in the mid 80s. They were a 3 or 4 piece band out of NC (Raleigh???). Cool ass guys. We saw them with DxRxIx in like 84 or 85 and then they came back with Life Sentence out of Chicago. I know they morphed players over the years and I know Pepper Keenan (Down, Graveyard Rodeo, etc) played with them and still may???? Mastadon played Voodoo 11 on the Saturday. They were pretty good too. They are out of Atlanta, right?

Correct. That fest set was alright, but if you haven't seen them do a headline show, you definitely need to. I've seen them 8 times and consider them one of the best live metal bands in the business.

Damn. Getting out after Voodoo is about a zero chance. But %#+*. Maybe just maybe....

Every year, I say that this will be the year that I hit aftershows after Voodoo, and every year it never happens. I think we are going to be camping in my girl's backyard in Mid-City a couple blocks from the fest this year (maybe, depends on kid and dog). So, maybe it will happen since we will be right around the corner...
Ticket prices jump to $175 GA, $525 LOA Monday at noon.
Hey Vieux,
Talk to your people and see who else will be added. Last 3 or 4 years, there have been mid and upper midcard adds throughout the summer. I know NAS was one. Kid Rock as well. But there were tons of others.
Snob,
That's at Hi-Ho right? Place holds about 50 people, so this is liable to be pretty intimate if you get tickets. I saw a little of his Buku set on Phi's recommendation last year. I May try to get over there for a bit just based on the talent level in that type of complete tiny dive bar setting. Hit me or the thread up later in October if it doesn't sell out.
