I'm hoping it doesn't rain that day (if it has to rain at all) since I will be in a costume. NWS has a chance of showers on Saturday and on Sunday. But highs are in the upper 70's with lows in the middle 60's, so at least it wouldn't be a cold rain or anything. Of course we've got 6 days to go, and everything could change by then.
Yesterday the chance of rain was only 40% today it is up to 80% on Saturday and Sunday, I am hoping that by Wednesday it will drop down again. If it rains, I can't do my costume... well I could, but I am not wearing all white in the rain. I am in the process of putting together backup, weather-resistant costumes. Mostly face paintings to go with my spirit hoodie/zebra/giraffe onesies. I have found some quick and easy costumes for girls that I can easily not have to worry about being see-through if they get wet.
I am not super worried about it raining just because one of my most favorite shows/memories ever at Voodoo was Black Keys in the pouring ass rain and then Silversun Pickups right afterwards in '09.
It's always tough to know what will happen with weather at festivals. Firely 2014 there's was suppose to be a significant storm that never amounted to more than a brief mist Saturday morning. Firefly 2015 it was supposed to be a brief storm that ended up being big enough to evacuate the festival.
I just hope it waits until Sunday, or is periodic rain and not continuous annoying rain.
Ozzy article from the paper discussing Halloween in America, how he is Halloween every day and about the show which is apparently an Ozzy show that feeds the guests in and out. I'm not sure who all is in his band since that varied up a bit in recent years. \m/
Interviews with: Joy Formidable, Babes in Toyland, Lettuce, Georgia Moroder, Metric, etc. Also previews and then a story on Chance and finally a Quickie Mart interview. Not sure if the links will copy, but here goes:
I was super lucky and scored 2 3-day passes for $200 Sunday morning off Craigslist. Glad I held out!
Really hope it doesn't rain beyond a drizzle or anything that will fuck up Janes/Ozzy. As long as music isn't cancelled I can deal with rain.
It isn't looking good. There is now a 90% chance on both Saturday and Sunday. Voodoo has never cancelled due to rain before. I have been in the trenches there before.

It's def going to rain. Just a matter of when and how much. Looks like it will rain hard in the afternoon and then be lighter rain throughout the night and through the day Sunday. That's not terrible, I'm not worried about it I'll be getting into shenanigans either way.
40% on Friday, 90% on Saturday (Thunderstorms. Potential for flooding rains.), 90% Sunday (Thunderstorms) according to the Weather Channel app. 55% on Friday (some sun with a shower), 75% on Saturday (cloudy, downpours in the p.m), 72% Sunday (humid with rain and a t-storm) on accuweather app

It says 40% for Friday but only .04 inches and only one hour of rain (during the day, 0 inches and 0 hours at night). I'm hoping/thinking we're good for Friday.

I am honestly more worried about rain Thursday night at my birthday shindig. Rain at Voodoo doesn't bother me much. I am sure if I had to pack accordingly it might bother me more, but it's not the first time it has rained during a festival on me, and I am sure it will not be the last. The only thing it affects is what I am going to be wearing. Costumes have been made rain resistant.

Oh yea where's the birthday shindig? I have no idea what I'll be doing that night.

We are doing House of Shock on Thursday at 7pm. There is entertainment and a bar. Should be a great time. Not sure what I will be doing afterwards, but am definitely doing something.
Where's a good place to eat during the week that's open late? 11-12ish on a Thursday night?
It depends on where you are at. La Boca would be my Top 1 for night dining if you are in/around the warehouse district. If you want something more casual, you can get a poboy late night at Verde Mart, and then there's also Killer Poboys in the FQ (moved to Conti street out of the back of Erin Rose bar, and Jabco says it's good). I think they do something different each day, but it's sort of Bahn Mi meets Poboy in a way. www.killerpoboys.com/menu/
I know the owner (he's the guitarist for Egg Yolk Jubilee), and it gets press, but I've never been to that bar. Also you can get a decent taco at Café Negril on Frenchmen, and there are often people grilling pork chops and whatever down there.
Some of the city's food trucks are outstanding, but you'd have to seek out who was opened at what time and where since they travel. On Thursdays, they could be at any of the bars or breweries.
Oscar's on Metairie Road (if you're in Metairie), in my opinion has the best hamburger in the city for thick, grilled patties. You get a giant burger and potato for $8.95, and their kitchen is open until 12 or 1 on Thursdays.
Shit, looking at the list I forgot about Mimi's in the Marigny. They serve until 4 am upstairs, have excellent tapas, and that's one of the best bars in the city. It kinda sucks they stopped doing music upstairs, because that place has been as bohemian as they come for a long, long time.
Edit to say also Hoshun is pretty decent pan-Asian (has Chinese, Sushi, Japanese, etc.) and is pretty great for a place that serves until 2am. That's right near Avenue Pub a few blocks past the bridge on St. Charles Ave.
Damn, really don't want my costume all fuckin' soaked. Especially don't want to be driving to late night shows in storms with shitty nola drivers on shittier nola streets.
I'll bring ponchos I reckon, that should be good enough. Shoe situation is kinda shitty though. Think I'll just buy some beater sneakers from goodwill and spraypaint them gold tomorrow.
Also, I think it is important to note that "90% chance of whatever" doesn't actually mean that there's a 90% chance. It means that on similar days in the past it rained 90% of the time.
Weather mang is the only job where you can be wrong everyday and not get fired.
Longinus and I were at Levitation this summer on there was a 90-100% chance of thunderstorms and we maybe got like a few drops and that's it. There was record rain that Wednesday before the fest too.
I'm just gonna stay positive and plan accordingly. The Pagan gods aren't going to allow the Black Sabbath on the Samhain to get cockblocked.

Fuck that shit. It's going to be raining blood - or maybe that was last year for Slaya'

It's been raining all week, we are getting that big ass hurricane leftover shit. It hasn't rained during Voodoo since 2009, so I don't know where those similar days in the past have been to make that prediction. Even if it doesn't rain, chances of the grounds being dry after this week are slim to none. You might want to pickup some shrimp boots and paint them gold instead.
As long as bands don't bitch out because of it or the fest getting shut down because of lightning I'm alright. Rather not deal with mud pits but whatever, it's inevitable sometimes.
Phyre Fest, depending on where you're at, there's tons of stuff.
Uptown, close to Tulane or the Carrollton/Riverbend area: Cameillia Grill is the old standby. Greasy spoon, but not divey or gross. Burgers, patty melts, omlettes, etc. Entertaining staff. Carrollton Station has We've Got Soul popping up on weekends. They usually have some more substantial things, but looks like the menu is limited this week to bar snack-type stuff: . Cooter Brown's is also decent enough.
In the Quarter, Killer Poboys in the back of Erin Rose bar (Bourbon & Conti) is great. Coop's is good, but could be busy. They stay open until people quit coming, I think.
Bouligny Tavern if you're Uptown along Magazine St. is a little more upscale, but delicious. Aline Street Beer Garden will probably have Joie de Vie popping up. Last time I was there, the dude made me a pizza with fried chicken skin, roasted green tomatoes, some red potato he was shredding and mixing up into tater tots, green onion, & he cracked three eggs on that bad boy before putting it in the oven. Also, the Taceaux Loceaux food truck will be at Dos Jefes Bar and I believe the St. Clair pizza truck will be at Kingpin. Both highly recommended.
There are a ton of others if none of that strikes you.
Toyota tent? I never even heard of that. Is that vip/loa or just for anyone? That's got 6 acts I was going to see anyway (Frank Turner, TJF, Babes, Wax Motif, Fishbone, Fantastic Negrito and maybe Ludlowe Thieves)
Thanks man. I will see some mini sets there. I got the new fix on the app which fixed Sunday but I think in turn fd up some of Saturday. Some of the sets show 2 hours and Ozzy goes to midnight which I don't think they ever do. Lmao. Fix that shit Voodoo. Randomly could be they added an hour of fest since it's the last day of Savings Time.

They're attempting to fix that DST bug according to Twitter.
