I'm pretty pumped for this show. But somewhat saddened by looking at his setlists. He doesn't play much old stuff at all. And based on the Reddit AMA, it doesn't sound like that will change at Roo. I would love to hear Sofi Needs A Ladder and I Remember though.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
I am most excited to be going to Bonnaroo for the simple sake that I'm finally going - second to that I'm super excited to be able to see deadmau5. I wouldn't be going if it wasn't for him. He has been my favorite artist for 2+ years and I found out he was playing this year when my wife called me on the way into work to tell me that A, he's playing at bonnaroo this year and B, I get to go. Aside from the excellent music he creates, I like Joel because I feel like he is more similar to me than any other artist I know of. He's a week or two older than me, messed around with computers and stuff, still plays fps games, enjoys R/C stuff, exotic cars (I work on exotics...) and all around seems to be a cool guy. What other celebrity do you know has driven people around in a McLaren for Uber?? He seems to be doing stuff any of us regular folk would be doing if we had the fortune to earn a killer living doing something we love. He has no patience for haters or fakers, and puts 110% into everything he does. I also love how he creates awesome sounds using analog equipment.

Having somehow seen him 4 times (2x Ultra, Tampa, and a Miami "warehouse" show) in about a year and a half, I'm glad to see a new setlist. I'd still want to hear Sofi, though. When he stops playing the Tommy Trash remix of The Veldt, I'll cry myself to sleep.
I saw him 4 years ago or so when he played a "super secret DJ set" at Beta nightclub in Denver. It wasn't leaked that Deadmau5 would be the DJ until a few days before the show. Idk if it was the venue, but the crowd was very bro heavy and I wasn't really feeling it at all. I am optimistic about his roo show though, since I couldn't imagine a better crowd of people.

I have a feeling the crowd will be similar to Kanyes last year, for better and for worse
New 9min edit. God I love this track. I'm getting more and more excited for this show.
its a big fucking deal for bonnaroo people, for better or worse. Assuming the set is well attended, and assuming EDM stays popular in the states, in a few years we might be talking about the "tradition" of the "friday night EDM headliner". We are running out of old white "legends" anyway, somebody's gotta headline.
I'm of the opinion that EDM in some form or another is here to stay in the states. It's never become unpopular in the rest of the world, just took America's youth a while to catch on.

I love that deadmau5 is calling out all of the fakers at Ultra this year. Multiple DJs were shown with equipment on stage that wasn't plugged in and/or turned on.
These are the "press play DJs" of today. People are paying hundreds of dollars for a festival to hear pre-recorded mixes that aren't even being played from the stage. As an EDM fan, it makes me sick and is a huge ripoff for fans.
With deadmau5, you are going to get something real...no faking it, no recordings. I'm glad he's the first EDM headliner at Bonnaroo.

I saw that last night and was giggling when he plugged the usb cord into the thong underwear

You realize that Deadmau5 has openly stated that he just pushes play for premixed sets and does not mix live right? And as for the DJ's not being plugged in. That was Krewella and they were plugged in via USB. Deadmau5 spoke to soon and for whatever reason feels like bashing dj's when he just pushes play like the rest.

That is not at all what he is saying in that article. His point is that he can't exactly go off the cuff with his music, but he is definitely mixing. You should read the article instead of just the title. Oh, and I knew not to take you too seriously when you defended Krewella and couldn't spell "too."

1. DJing, while requiring beat matching is a bit more than beat matching. There track selection, programming. Yes anyone with enough time can learn to count to 4 and use a pitch control. However, knowing when to mix in a new record, what record to mix in, etc. There is an art to curating, and there is an art of knowing when in the record to drop the new track and what point to bring the new track in at. Simple DJing is easy, great DJing is a real skill.
2. His explanation of why he cant work live is the same bullshit answer I hear continuously about synching up the set to the visuals. Well, newsflash, we've had visuals during live sets and DJ sets for years and those artists and DJ's were able to perform without fully synching the stage show. This style over substance argument is lame. There is a long long list of artists who have player live electronic music over the years with awesome stage shows and none of them would have dreamed of saying, awww we mailed it in and did slight modulations using a controller because we wanted to be sure the lightshow matched up. Underworld, Leftfield, Union Jack, Hybrid, Rudimental, Roni Size, Faithless, etc etc etc.
The real answer is that todays producers arent making music all the time, they are arranging it. They are taking sounds someone else made and putting it together in an order that people enjoy. There is something to be set for architecting a track, but dont act like there is performance value in someone standing on stage, pressing play, making slight modulations with Albeton. I'm a fan of the guys tracks, but this response to the whole miming criticism is bogus.
