Won't Miss 1. Florence + the Machine 2. deadmau5 3. MMJ (though FTR I wouldn't consider myself a fan, I just have yet to see them live. I wanna see what all the fuss is about)
Will Actively Avoid 1. Slayer 2. Soja 3. Bleachers
For fuck's sake, first the diss on Don't Stop Believing and now Slayer. This is the kind of shit that earned you spray sunscreen status.
i REALLY want to do austin psych fest one year. i just found out you can camp there too which is always a big sell with festivals for me.
I'm strongly considering this year, it's just so close to Roo for me to travel to both, but i'll see come April to make my mind up.
I was really considering Austin psych fest til the shaky knees lineup came out with Spiritualized on it (one of the three main reasons I wanted to go to psych fest) and fucking pixies!!! So, I'll most likely be going to Gasparilla, Shaky Knees, and Roo. Gonna be great
Not a fan. Aware that's like sacrilegious in these parts but just being honest
I am sure that you have been asked this, but I have to ask anyway... Have you ever seen them live? I mean, that would turn any non-believer into a MMJ fan. Jim James is god-like on stage. I like the honestly, it was shocking to read though.
The worst part about MMJ is that their fans refuse to accept anything other than zealous idolatry when it comes to the band. If you don't see them as The World's Greatest and Most Mind Meltingest Funk and Soul and Reverb Jam Showcase then obviously you just haven't seen them enough, because Yim Yames (lol get it he replaced the "j"s with "y"s) is a genius and you must accept this.

You could say that about any band or artist. Like Kanye

I went to the University of Louisville in the early-mid 2000s and the MMJ fanbase was very offputting. I agree that's true probably with any enthusiastic fan base, and this was MMJ's home city, just as they were getting big. All the hipsters were always trying to one-up each other with their fandom. Every jackass had a story about running into Jim James at a Taco Bell or something along those lines.
I have certainly grown to appreciate them over the years, but their super fans, especially in the Louisville area, still annoy me.
Who makes guacamole happen!?!? Does a tabloid like the University of Oklahoma student paper make guacamole happen or do ME AND YOU make it exist? Just cause they write about it doesn't make guacamole exist - ME AND YOU MAKE IT EXIST!

I didn't refuse to accept his opinion, I was just shocked. As much of a music snob I can be, I don't judge people based on their music (and I hope others don't do that to me). I have a very close friend, who IMO has crappy music tastes. Music is a matter of tastes, likes and opinions. Everyone's is different and I accept and respect that. I will ask the basic question(s) if they have seen them live, listened to their music as a whole and put my opinion out there, but I will not be an asshat just because they don't agree with me.
It was more the "Have you ever seen them live?" which was immediately followed by "that would turn any non-believer into a[n] MMJ fan. Jim James is god-like on stage." It's pretty much the canned response you get whenever you tell an MMJ fan you don't really like them.
And for the record I really do enjoy MMJ, even if I think their best work is well behind them.

I totally get that. I am sure the same could be said about anyone that loves any artist and has someone say they don't like them. I feel that is just a typical answer response. But maybe that is one of the issues to begin with. We all push our favorites on others and then try to convince them that our opinion is best.

This usually doesn't go well when bands make statements along this line but I wonder if James working on The Basement Tapes might inspired him to tone back some stuff on the next album? A little less "experimental rock" and hoot owl noises.
3.) ...Actually I can't think of a third act on the bill I'll actively avoid. Spoon maybe?
Why the hate on Spoon? I'm not obsessed with them and I won't be surprised if I end up missing their set but I'm not gonna avoid theme their music is such typical indie rock, I just don't understand being so against them
No hate really I'm just not enthusiastic about them. I've seen them before and wasn't impressed. I don't dislike their music, but I don't really like it either. I just couldn't think of a 3rd act that I'm less than interested in. I would say Billy Joel but I know if he's closing Sunday I'm going to be there despite not liking his music at all.

Eh, Kanye fans usually aren't trying to talk you into liking his music. It's more along the lines of convincing people that all his accomplishment at least merit some sort of respect, and telling Kanye West conspiracy theorists to go fuck themselves.
whenever I tell yeezus fans I don't like kanye, I often get, "ZOMG!!! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT YEEZUS IS THEE MOST AMAZING ALBUM OF ALL TIME!!!!" and then they push it down my throat a few more times even after saying that, aside from disliking kanye himself, I'm not a huge rap/hip hop person in the first place.
that's not a response I see on here often, but something I've experienced a lot in real life.
that being said, I think kanye is a great producer - the idea of him working on james blake's new album really excites me.

Oh, ok, that makes sense to me. It's just regular indie rock so I was confused how somehow could oppose it strongly.
1. Kendrick to bring out Schoolboy Q 2. Superjam with Run the Jewels, Flying Lotus, Kendrick, Florence (she did I come apart with A$AP Rocky so I think she could hold her own and it would be amazing) Gary Clark Jr, and 21 Pilots. 3. That @jazmo was right somehow and Jimmy Fallon and the Roots make it there.

"Don't Stop Believin'" is obnoxious as fuck. No one can hit the high notes on "Ohh-oh-oh-OOHHHHHHHHH" but they all drunkenly try anyway and it makes my ears hurt. It's boring uninspired pop music and there's a reason people only sing it when they're drunk, because if they did it while sober they wouldn't be able to blame the alcohol on their pisspoor song selection and shitty life choices. "Don't Stop Believin'" is the "Little Lion Man" of 1981, with less harmony. If you want a singalong at a party, grab a whiskey, put on Bohemian Rhapsody, and be satisfied in the fact that you're not the ten-millionth asshole to put on "Don't Stop Believin'". Congratulations, you're a winner. Fuck Journey and their four-chord drivel.
And I've got nothing against Slayer, I just don't care for metal. Gives me a headache.

Won't Miss 1. MMJ 2. Gary Clark Jr. 3. Glass Animals
Won't See 1. Florence 2. Shakes 3. Guster
I don't actively hate any of the "won't see", just don't think any of them are worth getting in what I imagine to be larger crowds for and subsequently missing something more interesting.
So many artists people just assumed would be there... Alt-j, tame impala, panda bear, st. Vincent, Matt/Kim, all of whom I really really expected to see Hopefully "more to be announced" means a ALOT more. Perhaps the release is early because they don't have all the artists yet and plan to release another chunk later on.
Thought the exact same thing. Checking with my guy to see if he's privy to the information about the additions. Will update when I hear something.

Oh you all are doing Can't Miss/Won't See. I can't come up with three I can't miss until I see the schedule, but I'm positive I'll be at My Morning Jacket.
Not a snowball's chance in hell will I see
AWOLNATION Between The Buried And Me Bassnectar because there will be other late nights
can't miss: tears for fears jungle earth wind & fire
won't see: slayer against me moon taxi I dunno, there's not much I really dislike on the lineup, most things I would be okay with seeing pending how the schedule lines up.

^^^ THIS!!! I don't care what anyone says. There is a ton of good on that lineup (and some great). There are artists that I have been trying to see and they haven't been at any festivals that I have gone to. Plus, just being able to go to Bonnaroo (finally) makes me all the happy.
I'm trying to think of a more depressing end of the party song.
How about "Helpless" by Neil Young?
actually i'm positive i ended a handful of nights with this song. i must've been sad.
Haha. You know, I don't have much to do at work today, so coming up with a list of songs more depressing to end a party with sounds like a lot of fun.
Nothing wraps up a joyous drunken night like standing around with your bros at 4am singing along to "Bell Bottom Blues". Really ends the night on the best note.
