Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I feel like had this lineup been released two years ago, a lot of you guys bashing it now would have been salivating over it.
Well, maybe. But that's kind of the point, isn't it? I get the whole "good music is good music no matter when you hear it" bit, but for anyone who has been following music and attending festivals for the past few years, seeing the same bands on lineup after lineup gets stale.
Giving the line up a 6. Before seeing the undercard, it was at a solid 2.
Here's my line up:
Kendrick Lamar My Morning Jacket Belle & Sebastian Spoon War On Drugs Superjam Atom Bomb! Tears For Fears Flying Lotus Earth Wind & Fire Caribou Medeski, Scofield, Martin, & Wood Sturgill Simpson Sylvan Esso Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn Jamie XX Mac Demarco Tycho The Very Best Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Shabazz Palaces Temples Hiss Golden Messenger King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Looking at that line up, without all the other bullshit, it's looking good.
I wasn't speaking of lineup placement so I really have no response for that.
Imo they did a good job of booking first time acts though and those repeating (Flylo, MMJ, SBTRKT, etc.) are more than welcome back.
I get what youre saying. It would be all about expectations. For Bonnaroo two years ago this lineup would have been a let down for me. For a smaller fest I would have been very excited about what would have been some very good up and coming acts at the time.

For a festival this established and huge, it seems weak based on: (almost) Everybody is conflicted about the headliners and basically somewhat excited about 1, ho-hum sure I'll go about the 2nd, and skipping the 3rd. The next signal of the lineup being weak is that (almost) everyone is REALLY counting on additions to make the lineup exciting for them. These aren't good signs, and speak volumes. The last thing that gets me, is that the bottom half of the poster is strong in many opinions. I don't plan and pay a lot of cash to go to a festival heavy in $5-$20 bar bands. I love seeing them, and rounding out my weekend with them, but they are far from what I base my Roo decisions on. That last point should be the difference between Bonnaroo and small-mid level fests. I like discovering, but for me this lineup is going to be a serious chore. I rate it 5, and at this point im 60/40 on going.
I just can't understand the people who say they aren't going because of the bands. Everyone I know and all that I have introduced to bonnaroo are hooked for life because of the atmosphere. The music is just a plus. Regardless of the line up, at less then $100 a day, I see it as being worth it and will continue going every year. Even though this is in my opinion the weakest line-up. I never really care for the headliners though. But I will definitely take Mumford and Billy (though I know he can't stack up to McCartney).
If you're going to Bonnaroo 100% for the lineup, you're doing it wrong. For starters the odds you are going to see everyone on your dream lineup with zero scheduling conflicts are slim so pass that corn it must be good. The lineup is a huge factor don't get me wrong, but the time I skipped because I told myself the lineup wasnt good enough to miss work is now a regret.

I wouldn't say I go 100% just for the music but the main reason as to why I go is the music. A lot of my friends hang out at the camp and miss a huge amount of shows, I'm not one of those people. I'm constantly running around trying to catch shows. This year I plan on trying out new things and getting closer for the shows I REALLY do want to see. I guess that's a positive to a weaker lineup. But my ticket was free so I can't complain too much.
Well I was bored at work yesterday so this shows how many people on bonnaroo.com that have added each artist. I think it gives a bit of incite into the ordering though not a perfect sample base.
I've been lurking for a few years and I will admit I don't have much music knowledge.. Lonely Forest at Roo 2012 was the first concert let alone festival I'd ever been too (Not a great start) but the rest of the weekend has kept me coming back ever sense.
I tend not to get to adventurous in what I listen to until the Lineup comes out. CD's in my car..(yeah i still buy CD's)
(When I'm not listening to MLB-Radio/NPR on XM) Vessel - Twenty One Pilots Because the Internet - Childish Gambino Old - Danny Brown Marshal Mathers LP2, XV - Eminem Born to Die, Ultaviolet - Lana Del Ray Joshua Tree - U2 Elephant - The White Sripes Alt Nation on XM
I think inforoo forgets they are not the typical bonnaroovian or at least not who they are trying to sell tickets to. There are bands on inforoo that the majority of you like and talk about frequently. My Morning Jacket comes to mind. It took me so long to figure out who "MMJ" was. So when you guys talk about the ordering you have to realize your not the usual fan in that you know far more about the music and the current chart toppers (hozier) don't mean as much to you. Where the casual fan debating bonnaroo might be convinced by that because they at least recognize the name.
I guess my point is.. Well im not sure what it is now... Just kinda still typing.. I should get back to work.

$100 a day? Ya I wish. Me and my wife spend about 5 grand, and over a week of time. 2 flights to get there from Calgary, 2 flights back. We need to buy our supplies there. We almost got ruined from the heat in 2010, so an RV has become a must as we aren't used to the heat. So for the effort and money we put in, yes we love the experience and music, but would prefer a lineup with more punch. Look at previous posters, the names on line 10, 12 etc. This lineup doesnt have it. We really want to go though, but we'll see.

I don't think I've seen a lineup since I've been going in 2010 that everyone loved.
2010- I remember everyone was pissed about Kings of Leon.
2011 - Everyone was hating on Eminem and his fanbase. I seem to remember Arcade Fire being a headliner getting questioned a lot.
2012 - Everyone lost their shit for Radiohead and Phish. I can't remember much negative about this year, honestly.
2013 - Maca of course, but same hate on Mumford and Sons.
2014 - Kanye hate.
So I mean, has there been a lineup that was universally loved? I feel like this one is getting a lot of the same love/hate mix that they get every year.
Who makes guacamole happen!?!? Does a tabloid like the University of Oklahoma student paper make guacamole happen or do ME AND YOU make it exist? Just cause they write about it doesn't make guacamole exist - ME AND YOU MAKE IT EXIST!
I agree, mostly. I am personally someone who really likes the lineup this year because the undercard is great - but think of how those people were pissed that Mumford got a HL spot in 2013, back when they were actually super relevant? And now, two years later yet without a new album, they're HL-ing. I actually do like Mumford's first album a lot, their second is okay, but I can understand why lots of people are questioning them as a HL. I get they're making up for cancelling in 2013 yadda yadda, but still.
As for Kendrick, although I love him and am really pumped he's HL-ing, again I can see why others would argue against it.
Billy's spot is just kind of subjective taste, IMO. I think I like Billy's music better than Elton's (not a huge fan of either), but they're fairly interchangeable. The fact that people are so upset that Roo scored another "old time throwback rock/pop" guy is surprising to me because....well, it isn't surprising at all that they did that. I was expecting it.
You're 100% correct that people will always find something to complain about, though!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I gave it a 4. I thought that was generous. Lineup certainly doesn't justify the price of the ticket. Of course I will be there, but its more brand loyalty than excitement about the lineup.
I'm thinking Lolla VIP this year since I dont have travel costs.
I'm thinking Lolla VIP this year since I dont have travel costs.
You did VIP last year, right? Would you say it was worth the cost?
Booze and food was free and lines werent bad most of the time. So yeah it was totally worth it. You cant take booze out of the back area but I just bought a bottle and filled it with beers then went out.
I gave it a 7 for now. That could easily go up or down depending on scheduling.
The top 15 is pretty weak for me, but there are absolutely plenty of shows that I'm very excited about. Would have liked to have 1 headliner I was psyched for, but oh well.
Impossible to say before the schedule comes out. The top the bill is without question the worst it's ever been and usually top billed acts have the least amount of conflicts. Sooooo...it could be a real clusterfuck if conflicts abound.
But if they lay out a good late night schedule, and keep the conflicts to a minimum, it could be a solid 7.

People will dislike any lineup. You cant satisfy everybody. Its still better than any lineup out so far. Some people are saying shaky knees is on top, with Avetts at 2? Lol, and im an Avett fan. Bonnaroo has a deep lineup, as usual. A lot of people just expect better headliners. They do a pretty good job of catering to different demographics. Billy Joel will get the older VIP crowd excited, Mau5 and Kendrick will get the younger crowd excited, and Mumford for everybody in between. It would be rare for anybody to really like all 4 of those artists. Same goes for last years top 4.
Bonnaroo wins again. MMJ should warrant a 5 minimum alone.

I gave it a 6. No US festival has really hit it out of the park this year, but Kendrick headlining & a mostly solid undercard has this one hovering just above the middle of the pack.

If you don't account for ticket prices and the size of the festival, you might have a legitimate argument. But considering that Shaky Knees is a mid-size festival with 3-day passes that cost only $200, their lineup is terrific. Of course the The Avett Brothers are going to be billed higher at a festival like Shaky Knees.

The middle and lower parts of the undercard are pretty strong, but the top 20-25 is much weaker than it's been in recent years.
Id rather pay twice for what Bonnaroo has. Some might not like Mumford and sons for whatever reason but theyre a bigger get than most bands at any of the festivals out there. Then throw on a legend like Joel. MMJ, Slayer, Tears for Fears, Run the Jewels, Kendrick, Deadmau5, plus a ton of great bands, the farm, the people, the late night? Bonnaroo is worth more than double my friend.

For the record, this year's lineup actually satisfies my tastes decently well. But just because a lineup appeals to my taste in music, that doesn't mean I think it's an objectively good or strong lineup. While the number of artists I would be interested in seeing is comparable to previous years, if I look at things from an unbiased perspective, this year's lineup is noticeably weaker than the 2013 and 2014 lineups. Solely based on tastes, I would give it a 6/7, but my objective grade is a 5/6.
Btw, i can list 40 plus bands that i want to see at Roo, i cant list 20 at most fests any year. Roo rules, man.
Yeah, but we've established pretty conclusively that you have shit for brains. Just because your epically narrow taste fits perfectly with Bonnaroo's paint-by-numbers lineup doesn't really mean anything.
