OK after giving it some time to digest, I have come to the conclusion that this lineup is just plain bad. We can't sugarcoat it because it's bonnaroo and we love the festival. I know some people are trying to be positive, but there needs to be repercussions for releasing such a bad lineup so they don't do it again in the future. This is seriously worse than some tier 2-3 festival lineups.
Even considering the fact that there does in seem to be less great acts touring this year, bonnaroo missed out on the best acts that were available and went with some bullshit cookie cutter nonsense. I'm sad to say I won't be going and no one I know is interested either.

The undercard is incredible. I think it's the best it has ever been. The headliners are great. Mumford is predictable but worthy and Billy Joel is a nice touch. If MMJ is given a main stage slot, that would be overly deserved, though that could shorten their set. Even without all the additions left to come, Bonnaroo still reigns supreme.

Happy as fuck with this lineup...IMO it's A LOT better than last years....soo happy MMJ and STS9 are back and been wanting to see EW&F for a long while

I know music is subjective and what not and I try to understand that. But I'm blown away every single time someone says it is better than last years. I mean I'd agree with you... But then we would both be wrong.
I wouldn't say it is better than last year's. But I do think it is a lot better than some people are claiming, esp. when in comparison with the other lineups out this year (i.e. Hangout - I'm not comparing it to fests like Shaky Knees that are much smaller and more genre-specific).
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

FWIW Hangout is less than half the size of Bonnaroo. They're not comparable.

They both have pretty crappy lineups, though.
Are you saying hangout is smaller because of the stages/setup, or bc of the amount of people they pull? I'm seriously curious. I know that voodoo is a way smaller style fest than Bonnaroo (bc of stages/setup), but according to our tourist convention calendars, it still draws 100,000 people to it each year, which is comparable to bonnaroo a crowd. I'm not sure what hangout pulls, but one would think a fest on the beach would have a large draw. I don't personally consider either on the same level as bonnaroo, but Bonnaroo is just different than your average festival.

No, Hangout caps ticket sales at like 35,000 or 40,000. The semi-sentient goons in the Hangout thread could probably tell you which. It's legitimately half the size of Bonnaroo.

That's it?!?! I really thought they're draw was larger. Ok then.
King Gizard and the Lizard Wizard was worthy of a point for me before even listening. After listening, I'm weirdly excited for them, and thats worth at least a half point. I'm up to an 8.

I didn't know the exact numbers difference but if you go to Hangout, you can really see the difference in the size of the crowds. Even when it looks really crowded, that's because everyone always stands really far apart at the shows for some reason. It's really weird, I would see people able to push up pretty close to the stage right before most acts started

They are way overpriced for that sized fest. Plus, you have to book a hotel room and it is best to book with friends due to the prices and sizes of the condo! I had no idea, I really thought that they were much larger than that. That really puts some perspective on the larger festivals that I go to for much cheaper ticket prices.
Changed my rating to a five. If you've ever been on a dry spell and hooked up with a girl that you thought was pretty hot, only to snap back to reality a couple of weeks later and wonder why you were so blind, that's a proper analogy as to how I've felt about this lineup.
For ~$370, forget it. Don't even wanna know how poor ticket sales are gonna be this year.

Yes. Bonnaroo lineups are like sex. Even when they're terrible it's still kinda good.

I've been going back and forth between a 6 and an 8. For now, I'm settling on a solid 7. I actually have more bands on my interested list this year than last year. Not completely done going through the lineup but I'm at a little over 40 bands for me. I will say this year is on the weaker side, I'm newer when it comes to fests so I'm sure some vets have higher expectations. And looking at past years, I can see why. But I also noticed that roo usually had a killer lineup after a down year, let's hope next year is stacked and enjoy what good we do have on the lineup this year, Atomic bomb is gonna be sickkkk

If anyone was wondering, the weighted mean ranking for this year's lineup is 6.19. There have been 238 votes, which is a pretty decent sample size considering the number of people on this forum.

I wonder how the rating would change if the voting started now. The addition of D'Angelo is pretty massive, and new albums from Kendrick, Mumford, MMJ, Florence, etc. might change people's thoughts. Also the fact that no other US festival has come out with a significantly better lineup. I think anything below a 6 is unfair for this lineup.

I upped my ranking from a 7 to an 8. Partially because of D'Angelo and Kacey Musgraves adds. But honestly, I would put it at a 9 if we counted schedule. I have a better schedule this year than I have the last two years, mostly because there isn't a time slot where 5 things I want to see are all taking place and I lose 4 of them.
