Got a sunday ticket. Pretty excited about it. Although it sucks Todd T has be to up against Run the Jewels. I really wish they put Todd against Chance. its surprising that both Wilco and Sleater Kinney have bands playing against them on the smaller stage but nobody is playing against chance. I would have figured Wilco would have gotten that treatment but oh well. Now I will just get out of there a little earlier then expected.
Also going to the Protomartyr/Bully show the night before. Anyone else?
Officially going Sunday with some friends. I haven't listened to any of the acts that are playing before Freddie Gibbs so if you have any suggestions let me hear them. Otherwise I think my schedule should go...
Freddie Gibbs > Courtney Barnett > Jamie xx > Caribou > Todd Terje > Chance. Will I have to leave Caribou early to get a good spot for Todd? Also I read that the Red/Green stages are perpendicular, is it difficult to position yourself in a way to have a good view of both, or will I have to plan on sacrificing a good view of one in favor of the other?
We're doing exactly the same fucking thing on Sunday. I'll be there all three days, but that is precisely my schedule.
Two things. First, you absolutely should go to Viet Cong. They're gonna rule. I'd say Waxahatchee because her music is pretty good but her live show is pretty shitty the two times I saw her. Perfect for Pitchfork in the early afternoon, but generally not interesting at all. Her drummer is really good though. Shoot me a pm and maybe we could meet up for a show or two. I'll probably go to Bitchin' Bajas too because they'll likely just play two songs that last the whole 45 mintues.
Second, Todd Terje is remarkably unknown and he is playing at the same time as arguably the most popular rap duo in the world right now who are playing right before and right next to one of Chicago's most agreeable rappers for his homecoming performance closing out a music festival. I'm gonna say you'll be just fine leaving Caribou at the end. Especially since that means you have a whole half an hour. The whole Green/Red stage thing is awesome in my opinion and will make much of Saturday and Sunday incredibly easy. You can basically just chill there and bounce back and forth and have pretty great spots for either stage.
Pitchfork is the shit.
Appreciate the honest advice. I'll message you here soon, we could probably meet up if my friends are okay meeting internet randos lol. Is there a decent amount of shade in the park?
I just found out that my best friend, who is an editor of a small newspaper at one of the universities here, has to cover for one of his writers, which means that he now not only gets to come to Pitchfork with us, but has to meet up with a couple bands! I might get to talk to the lead singer of Bully.. Oh boy.
I don't know how I made it happen, but it looks like I'll be able to make it for the whole weekend. Thank god I have plenty of sleeping arrangements in Chicago so I don't have to pay for a hotel room. Is the food inside the festival cheap? Are they strict on the no outside food, or is it like Bonnaroo where I could bring a small sandwich and a piece of fruit? Also I'm guessing beer is an arm and a leg? Any other useful tips/artist recommendations are more than welcome.
I'm always of the assumption with events like these that if there is room left in the venue, then you're guaranteed entry with an RSVP. If the place is at capacity, you're just screwed/waiting in line like everyone else.
Thanks! Just got an email...."RSVP is confirmed. However, early arrival is highly recommended as admission is strictly based on capacity. The events start at 10 pm and you must be 21+." Guess I'll make sure to get there early.

Food ranges from $6-$10ish for a sandwich/pizza/wrap. Lines can get a little long (up to 15 minutes during peak hours 5-8 pm) but they have a pretty good variety of food options (vegan, veggie, etc.).
They are pretty strict on no outside food - the only "food" item that is allowed is 2 sealed water bottles. If you bring a camelbak make sure to fill it up as soon as you enter the fest as the only refill "station" is a tiny drinking fountain with 6 spouts and always has a very, very long line - 15-20 minutes usually.
I think beer is $6-$8 depending on what you get. Goose Island is a major sponsor of the festival and usually taps different beers every hour or so at their booth (their booth is separate from the main food area and by the main entrance or behind home plate of one of the baseball diamonds). Beer is also available by the small stage or in two different spots in the main food area.
Less than 48 hours until p4k fest 2k15!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait for this weekend, should be a blast
Run the Jewels and Todd Terje conflict is still eating me alive. Choosing Terje over RTJ but it will be painful will prob also have to leave his set early to get a spot for chance's set :/
The side entrance was the best. RIP side entrance.
"The only General Admission ENTRANCE for the event is located on Ashland Avenue, between Washington Boulevard and Lake Street. Please note that there is no longer a gate located at the east end of Washington Boulevard."
I wonder if this is how they are getting by with the smoking ban?
