More details about the Hollywood Handbook shift. I think these deals are worth it but I'm a big HH stan
Hey everyone. Sean, Hayes, and, I want to say thank you all for the very kind comments this week. We appreciate your support!
There were a few changes negotiated between Earwolf/Stitcher and The Boys today. Before getting into those details, it's important to note the free show will remain independent in the new year. We're going to continue releasing episodes every Tuesday, so nothing new in that regard!
The back catalogue of episodes is something we wanted to make sure we owned after the departure. We'd love to release the older episodes from behind the paywall. In order to do that, The Pro Version will be co-licensed by Stitcher Premium and The Flagrant Ones Patreon. This means you'll be able to hear the Pro Version in January on either Stitcher Premium or the TFO Patreon. This obviously wasn't what was announced yesterday, and we're sorry about the immediate change in plan. This info came together today, which we weren't expecting.
However, we'll now be able to release the first 3 years of the podcast for free in 2021. PLEASE NOTE -- we're not anticipating this to all get organized and released in January. We'll keep everyone in the loop as we figure out the details, but it's a complicated technical process and we don't want 150 episodes unexpectedly downloading on your phone. The plan is to gain ownership of the remaining episodes each year.
One small Pro Version detail: tomorrow is our last Pro Version episode for the year. The show will continue Wednesday January 6, 2021 on Stitcher Premium and The Flagrant Ones Patreon.
Here's what to expect on The Flagrant Ones Patreon in January:
$4 a month: The Pro Version $4 a month: Carl Calls His Cousin (released on Mondays and Wednesdays) $5 a month: The Flagrant Ones $7 a month: The Bundle (includes The Pro Version, Carl Calls His Cousin, and The Flagrant Ones) $10 a month: The Bundle + Video (videos of all recordings) Season 3 of Masterclass will also be added sometime in 2021 as its own tier and part of the bundle. It will also be available on Stitcher Premium. All plans on the Patreon will also include an annual billing option with a 16% discount.
This will be available January 1st, 2021 on Patreon.com/TheFlagrantOnes. We're very excited about the future of the show and appreciate Earwolf's help as we leave.
I already subscribe to Flagrant Ones so may up my subscription.
Yeah I'm already on TFO Patreon so that's all good with me. Not sure if I've ever listened to Pro Version. Two extra bucks a month is worth a try at least.

The Pro Version is so fucking good. I just recently caught up on a re-listen of it all the way through. For the most part it's them just trying to fill time but sometimes they do a Teaser Freezer trailer watch or will have a guest. It's so good, though. Occasionally they will reference things from the real feed which gives it that "omg i'm behind the scenes" kind of feeling.

The Pro Version is fucking great. Short cuz only 30 minutes but you can binge it pretty easily. I think they're in the 200's now for episodes. Early on (like the main show) they had more plans in mind and would do features like Teaser Freezer which they stopped doing on the main feed. But pretty quickly it just becomes them bullshitting, complaining, and just talking shit. It's funny because they get a little more "real" on the show and will sometimes get into real stories from their lives and relationship but it's still mostly just goofy fun. It's also where #CowboyTV originated from.
Def worth a listen.
I'm excited for whatever it is "Carl calls his cousin" is about. Whether it's him calling one of the boys or if each episode is him calling a different person.....or if he just plays both parts lol. Whatever it is i'm sure it'll be up my alley.
watched the truly goofy 'a very nutty christmas' yesterday in preparation for the live how did this get made tonight. we got the two show bundle so there's another one next week. this is the closest thing we're getting to any live entertainment so it feels like an event.

Not really a podcast but Janie Hadad-Tompkins (wife of Paul F. Tompkins and host of Stay F. Homekins) introduced me to this when she tweeted it out and since PFT is basically a podcast celeb and I don't know who else would care I'm posting this here:

This is the kind of deep dive into ridiculous sketch bits origins that I live for.
There's a dumb little 60 second sketch in an Aunty Donna netflix episode about the character "moogie woogie" and his dance.
Crappy audio quality on this clip:
It's pretty dumb but catchy and I liked the line delivery. I looked into it a bit more and people on Reddit were going nuts over the fact that they "put Moogie Woogie on the show" so I wanted to know more.
Apparently, it originated from their podcast when they were tired after recording a ton of episodes in a row and during a freestyle rap episode late into the recording session Broden is looking for a word to rhyme with "Boogie" just blurts out "I'm Moogie" and the other two lost it and cracked up. Then at the end of the freestyle stuff Zach brings out his "new" character Moogie Woogie and they just start doing ridiculous shit like in the video. Apparently they then kept the character alive and put it into the Netflix show.
Here's an explanation from someone on Reddit:
So they do a weekly podcast and because they had to fly over to LA to film the Netflix show, they "banked" 10 in a row over 3 days. The podcasts are usually pretty fucked to begin with, but when they had to come up with 10 ideas in a short time, they got progressively more and more fucked.
The 7th was "30 mins of straight fire" which was just 30 mins of them freestyling over rap beats. Broden mispronounced Boogie as Moogie and then 5-10 minutes later Zach premiered a new character "Moogie Woogie" who does the "moogie woogie boogie". All in a very high voice. Basically its their most fucked character which is saying something as they've had a character called Jan who's whole character arc was that she also made Jam.
Moogie came back when they made a podcast pretending to be talking to him after a podcast where the character was fleshed out, he uses slave Labor, fucks all the time, is incredibly racist and gets very offended if you mispronunce his language.
Basically the reason he is so loved, is because its such a nothing idea that became one of the best podcast characters and by all rights really shouldn't have gone beyond the 30 mins of fire podcast.
You can listen to the episode here. I'm trying to work my way through the show from the beginning so I'm only on episode 7 but had to seek this out when I read about it.
The "moogie" verse starts around 12:44. Then they do more and then Zach brings in Moogie at around 21:45
just realized that tomorrow should be the cbb holiday episode. i'm wondering if it'll be completely bonkers with a million people on zoom or he'll split it up into segments like the 10th anniversary.

Excited to see what it is. Hoping for a few unique guests. Maybe a return from Victor & Tiny?
I had a thought today after seeing some "Jess McKenna appreciation thread" on reddit that I think it'd be neat for Scott to do a big special episode (maybe not the holiday one but an end of the year or even halloween which he grew tired of the Suicide House schtick a while ago) with all women guests. They don't need to play women characters but a "best of guests" with people like:
Could even have some "straight-women" who don't do characters like:
- Rhea Butcher - June Diane Raphael - Chelsea Perritti
I'm sure some boys on the internet would get their panties in a bunch but I think it'd be interesting. Some recent episode when it was Scott with 3 other women got into a different vibe and they commented on it.

CBB Holiday lineup:
Comedy Bang Bang #686: Holiday Spectacular 2020 (Jason Mantzoukas, Paul F. Tompkins, Andy Daly, Jon Gabrus, Lauren Lapkus, Ego Nwodim, Carl Tart, Lily Sullivan, Tim Baltz, Shaun Diston, Dan Lippert)

10-15 minutes in to CBB and I'm losing it at the idea of Santa Claus having a 16 foot deep hot tub (elevated 16 feet above the ground and you have to climb a ladder to get into it) and needing to hold onto the edge so he doesn't drown is everything I want.

This is another example of why so many of the niche, smaller podcasts are leaving. When you are having the podcast space invaded by huge names for multi-million dollar deals why would the higher ups care about the Hollywood Handbooks or Off Book?
Wonder who gets the Obama podcast...whenever that idea gets floated
Pretty much happened naturally, rather than pointedly, but I don't really listen to any podcasts with famous people/people known for other stuff hosting them at this point. I don't listen to Conan's show or any Ringer stuff anymore. Rogan occasionally, if he has like Snowden on, but I'm not subscribed. I do listen to Cum Town and Chapo sometimes, which are big shows, but they're podcasts first.

reading your post made me think, and I really don't have any "instant listen" podcasts anymore aside from The Watch, and i'll even occasionally skip an episode of that if they are talking about shows I am not familiar with. i still love conan of course but even his pods aren't instant listens, i'm far behind on those. same goes with r u talking talking heads. i'm like a once a quarter listener to an episode of rogan, and even then i don't think i've finished a full episode of rogan since the killer mike episode which was fascinating. ezra klein still one of my favorites but i don't listen to every episode. sam harris i backed way down on but still enjoy his conversations about meditation or other mind focused stuff.
i was super into The Weeds and 538 pod for the past several months, but as usual post presidential election my political podcast consumption drops off a cliff. plus ABC news laid off Clare Malone which made me really angry because she was the best part of the podcast and a great writer (although they are working on making her a regular part of the podcast again).
WTF i might catch once a month, guest dependent. still love marc of course.
anyway i think my podcasting time has been taken up by music and audiobooks, both of which i find more rewarding and enriching.
the second how did this get made live holiday show is tonight. last week was a lot of fun and i'm ready to make hot chocolate and throw soft pretzels in the air fryer and pretend it's a night out. are you watching heyyitskait? happy birthday!
