no they were pulled over for speeding. but the cops chose to let a couple of dozen law breakers go on breaking the law right in front of them so they could target someone who fits a profile of someone who could possibly be doing something that can bring in alot of money.

no it isn't. ever been pulled over in clear violation of a law and let go with a warning? that is a clear cut example of a police officer choosing not to enforce a law. how can a police officer, sworn to protect and uphold the law, choose to ignore it when he has clear evidence of a violation?
if a police officer doesn't enforce every violation of a law, then clearly the law has no value to him/her other then what they see fit to use it for. and if a police officer is given the latitude to use a law to suit the purposes of them/their department/city/state/etc, how can i see the system as a whole as anything other then corrupt? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_corruption ...note the use of the word 'selectively pursuing'

What laws were they breaking?
I think he was saying that instead of the cop wasting time on the person they originally pulled over for speeding, why not let them go (with their ticket) even if they fit a "profile" to catch other speeders out there...and the speeders would be the other law breakers. Instead of wasting time trying to get the driver to give in to a search or asking stupid questions, let them go and get back to business, so to speak.
From what I have seen as far as pictures go not much of anybody on here should be getting messed with that hard because of profiling. Dude included. Hell I should be getting messed with more than most everyone I have seen pictures of on here.
Hahah, word. I've been pulled over a few times, I can't say I ever felt profiled (even though once I was on my way to a Phish show, the other I was on my way to a festival). Every time I've been pulled over I was doing something on the road I shouldn't (usually speeding). I have long hair and stickers on my car. But I was speeding! I accept that.
And how is a cop supposed to pull over additional speeders if he already has someone pulled over? Call in back up? Try to take down plate numbers? Point the camera in his car to the highway? I'm not trying to be fisicious or anything, but seriously...
no ones saying he should pull over everyone at the same time. he should pull over the first person that breaks the law. when he is done with them he should pull over the next person who breaks the law. not waste time searching through the stuff of the first car. and not wait for someone with stickers or camping gear on their way to a festival.

We have reached a new level!!! Now we have people pissed for cops NOT writing tickets!!! That makes them corrupt??? If we lived in a Black and White right or wrong world you may have a point.

Being let off with a warning on a speeding ticket doesn't make the law worthless. Usually warning are given for very small infractions of the law, 5 mph over, not using turn signals, busted tail lights. I've never heard of anyone being let off with a warning going over the speed limit 10mph. :: doesn't mean it doesn't happen though. In my home state, going over 10mph can be drawn up as reckless driving, a more serious offense.
Again, if you're trying to convince speed limits are worthless and should be abolished, I'm with ya! If you're saying speed limits are valid laws and should be enforced more regularly, I say they're doing the best they can.

I would suggest that you do not hand out your travel plans to the police along your intended route of travel. I wonder how long he waited for you to come by. Do you have exact times or estimates on your plans?

I really would not use wiki as support for arguements.

Yeah Wikipedia is not a smart way to defend your position.
Police corruption is an akward sexual position where the giver stands on his/her head clapping their arms together like a seal, all while reciting the Declaration of Independence in Swahili. The taker then dresses in customary judges robes and does the Mexican Hat Dance around the giver. At the end of the dance the taker then pulls out a turkey baster full of Glowstick juice and empties it into the givers rectum.
i agree too. i dont normally work days. damn holiday weekend. im tired and cant wait to be done with this freeking job for the summer. only 4 weeks to go!!! very happy to have killed most my day here. kept me awake.

no one should be shocked that a cop reads this board any many others... so why not give an opinion back. i am cop, i have a college education, and i really do this job because i feel i make a difference. to say all cops are corrupt or that we all act like dicks is an ignorant statement. in no way do i, or the vast majority of my coworkers feel like just because you smoke or have long hair etc.. reflects that your are some piece of shit. if you can figure that out just by looking at people maybe you can teach me how to do it and save me having to react to crime after the fact. for the record alot of cops get killed over drugs whether it's by those providing or using them. that kinda makes it a sore spot with alot of us. i'm not sayin all cops are good, we are people, and some of us are a disgrace, but in my experience the overwhelming majority of us are not. we get little credit, not that we are looking for it, and usually deal with people at their worst, or at least at some of their lowest moments. all this said most cops would bend over to save or assist another person, possibly at risk to themselves, without question. and in 10 years i've yet to go to the inservice where they teach us to ignore the constitution. i'll admit that some people are in it for the power trip, but if you think it's the majority you need to take a closer look. i live and work along a major route to bonnaroo in tn and have arrested several people coming and going, and would like to think none of them thought i was a dick based on my attitude. i've also met some really nice people at gas stations and fast food joints off the exite, changed some flats and given rides after breakdowns. i guess after reading all of this i must be the only one that isn't a dick, or at least as usual the people with a negative opinion are the most vocal. now by all means continue, cause i do get a kick out of it and it does make the time pass, plus i cant respond when high times pisses me off. just my 2 cents. and for all the other cops that are without a doubt reading this, sorry to let the cat out of the bag that we are smart enough to use the internet.
I drive a 2000 Nissan Frontier with 2 Dead Stickers and a ROO sticker on the back window. Especially in the summer seldom does a day go by I do not have a tye dye on. Oh, and my hair is fairly long. Yet I have been pulled over maybe 5 times myself and been in the a car with others multiple times with others that got pulled over. Never got a ticket, never even been asked to consent to a search.
Yeah, but your whitehat and secret handshake trumps any costume you might wear. That, your jesus fish, and your FOP hubcaps!
no one should be shocked that a cop reads this board any many others... so why not give an opinion back.
definitely not shocked at all... in fact a new perspective (and one really close to the action at that) to join the debate is actually quite refreshing i think. furthermore, i respect that you had the stones to admit what you do.

it most certainly is, and i can't defend any who made such statements. i know all my viewpoints have been directly mainly at the system in which cops are a part of.

in 10+ years i've never been to the class/seminar where they taught people how to circumvent police procedures or utilize legal loopholes...but that doesn't mean that kind of knowledge doesn't get around does it?

you sound like a really reasonable guy from what you've said, and its really nice to hear that someone with reasonable viewpoints is working along the corridors to TN. i would say that we should meet up at 'roo and i'll buy you a beer but well, something tells me you probably can't do that either

Much better, but you did check the creds for the author from which this was quoted, right?

The topic is know your rights when traveling. All we are talking about is driving on the road. It's not in the bill of rights that u get to drive a car. It is looked at as a privilege. That is why they can take away your right to drive forever or suspend that privilege. They can never take away your rights to search and seizure (legally anyway) I haven't heard any stories about.j/k The roads are a VERY VERY dangerous place and stats prove it. There are a lot of people driving all f%cked up and many who have very poor driving skills and others who have no business behind the wheel. So for the sake of my family I have no problem with the cops enforcing the road laws and trying to determine if a person is Fuck#d up. I am in the majority most people do want this, in turn the cops do crack down. I want drunks and drugs addicts off the highways and away from cars. Hell impound the car so they don't drive for all I care. So your options are truly this if u are so scared about the cops. Don't drive at all (which is very unrealistic unless u live in a big city) Don’t drive fucked up and if u drive make sure none of your lights are out. whether it's the dome headlight or 1 license plate light. Plus take driving very serious, make sure u are sober and know the rules of the road. If u have time to know the bill of rights know the rules so u can avoid being pulled over. "smart people follow this logic" people that follow the law and have a vehicle in compliance with state laws don't get pulled over b/c the cops know these type of people are more than likely O.K....people WITH LIGHTS OUT or speeding have broken the law as written and will be stopped. Also if u are still scared u just either have to hire a driver$$$ or just fuckin% walk. It's that simple. Cops are people of stats and probability. Why patrol the graveyard at night when most of the deaths by far are on the road therefore the cops are needed there more. Sure they give tickets and make cash but I'm alright with that b/c if I gave him no reason then I would just be on my merry way. Sometimes I speed and have a light out but if I get a ticket or even worse go to jail I know I was gambling and know it was my fault not the cops as DUDE puts it. How can they harass u or mess with u if u are doing nothing wrong. Hell if you aren’t doing anything wrong then they can't make $$ off u and therefore would never mess with u. SEEE the logic.......So if u don't like the drug laws (who does) then just be smarter than the cops. DUDE always says how dumb they are. Well if u get caught then they outsmarted u. Don;t let them. So when u choose to break the drug laws don't drive and don't walk in front of a cop (be smart) and u win. U Get to break the law and not get fucked with b/c time and place is everything. So when U break drug laws don't drive. Problem solved and it didn't cost U a retainer fee
Sorry but 50K between two people would not be fun to live on
well if you had read my posts you would have read that i wasnt driving. i was a passenger in a car with a license plate light out. the driver should have gotten a ticket he deserved and we should have been on our way in under 10 minutes. instead they tore that car apart. searched my bag and found a little bit of nuts to charge me with. i didnt do anything wrong. not one damn thing. noone in the car had done anything wrong outside of the driver who only drove with a license plate light out. how does that translate into passengers being searched? thats the point. the cops arent following the rules. so yes pull over people and give them tickets for breaking the law. but dont harrass everyone so that you can search their stuff looking for any reason to charge them with something that brings in money when you have no reason to suspect them of anything other then a light being out and your opinion of what profile they fall into... and in my case i wasnt even driving. so i had done not 1 thing wrong.
other then addressing that one point i was able to decipher form you post i dont have alot to say. im not sure what the hell your talking about. but if cops quit wasting time searching for any random charges they can find in the belongings of someone who isnt suspected of anything but fitting a profile while dozens of speeders and drunk drivers roll by maybe the roads would be safer.
i guess some people are just not-sees i cant make you see it. and i dont care if you do or dont. i know it happens. everyday. all the time. its happened to me and its happened to many friends. and you all know it happens. seems like its just a case of people defending something becasue they were taught that thats what a good person does. "cops are good and i love em, thast how i was raised." but thats a joke. they do it. we all know they do it. why fight tooth and nails about something that everyone knows is going on? the cops do it openly. if you cant see that then your the ultimate not-see. not trying to be harsh or rude. but damn what reality do some of yall live in?? like i said just watch an episode of cops where they intimidate people into giving up their rights and then laugh at them for giving up their rights when they have something in the car. take a look around it happens everywhere. go to lots of fests. you will see it happening all the time. you dont always witness it first hand at something as massive as bonnaroo but trust me its happening. but if you go to lots of smaller fests you will witness it and hear many horror stories from people that were harrassed.
and just because legally they can intimidate people into refusing their rights dosent mean it should be done. in my opinion any stranger that comes up to me for any reason and asks me to forfeit the rights afforded to me by the constitution while dealing with them is someone that i consider myself better then. someone i dont want anything to do with let alone cooperate with. what a ridiculous question to ask a stranger. and a stranger whos tax dollars pay cops checks. and whos rights cops are supposed to be serving and protecting. not asking them to forfeit them to deal with you. its a ridculous system of harrassment. anyone who does that = dirtbag in my book.
