i guess some people are just not-sees i cant make you see it. and i dont care if you do or dont. i know it happens. everyday. all the time. its happened to me and its happened to many friends. and you all know it happens. seems like its just a case of people defending something becasue they were taught that thats what a good person does. "cops are good and i love em, thast how i was raised." but thats a joke. they do it. we all know they do it. why fight tooth and nails about something that everyone knows is going on? the cops do it openly. if you cant see that then your the ultimate not-see. not trying to be harsh or rude. but damn what reality do some of yall live in?? like i said just watch an episode of cops where they intimidate people into giving up their rights and then laugh at them for giving up their rights when they have something in the car. take a look around it happens everywhere. go to lots of fests. you will see it happening all the time. you dont always witness it first hand at something as massive as bonnaroo but trust me its happening. but if you go to lots of smaller fests you will witness it and hear many horror stories from people that were harrassed.
Thats the thing eveyone doesnt see that as it stands right now only you are claiming that it happens everyday all day and that "everyone knows whats going on". Only you. No one else in this thread sees it everyday like you claim to. All the while you say you live in the boonies and have very limited police experience.
Have you ever actually been in trouble? Not just busted on the side of the road but in trouble? I am guessing no.
no i havent. dui, posession of small amounts of herb, and paraphernalia. thats it. im a good person. i dont do things that are wrong. so no i havent had any dealings with cops outside of them harrassing me. and i dont want to. not the type of people i like to be around. people who ask me to give up my rights to deal with them dont deserve my respect. its a shame they operate that way.
and ive lived in the city my whole life other then the year and a half ive been up here.
It sounds as if you should be more upset at the driver giving up his right to not consent to a search. seeing how most of the time, as much as I can tell, you were riding with someone that gave up that right.

no the driver did not give up that right. hes not a moron. he completely refused to let them in. they had dogs with them. the trained dog did something he was trained to do and bam. no more rights. its bullshit! the cops even said to him before the dog got to us, "im going to reach in your car and turn it off, is that ok?" becasue they let him keep it running when they walked up the first time, for probably just that reason. he refused to let them do that and they had him do it.
My thoughts exactly Chicago. Dude, it seems you just want to whine and moan about it but do nothing to change it. That what the ACLU is here for but for some reason you just want to complain about it. That makes you part of the problem, just as much as you think we/I are/am. Since when does asking someone questions qualify as intimidation? It is up to the public tyo know their rights and exercise them, ignorance is no excuse. More importantly if you do try and exercise your rights and they are viloated it is your responsibility to DO something about it.
dude its apparent youve never dealt with them. if you say you want your rights and you dont consent they go into the routines they were trained to use to convince you to give up your rights. they say 'what you dont like law enforcement?" or 'why wont you let me search if youve got nothing to hide" or "if theres something illegal in the car i will find it and your gonna have big trouble or you can cooperate with the law and i can help you." he also spent 20 minutes in the car trying to convince me that i knew where i could get 'weight' and that telling him that would help out wiht this. its all crap.
Ok, then proceed to the second part of my post. If you were violated, do something about it. ACLU would handle the case pro bono I'm sure, especially if was such a blatant trampling of your rights.
Then you shouldve had your charge dropped in court. Sounds like your fault.
my charges were dropped. probably mostly because we asked if we were being detained for 15 minutes while they waited for the dogs. and because i was respectful to him. i always am. its fake. but i do it. he even told me it was just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. that if it hadnt been the homeland security thing all of this would have never happened. he also didnt much care for the homeland security people. we talked about how much more money they get for following him around with dogs while he walks up to cars and might get shot in the face for 1/10th the pay. i made a joke about how it was a priority since potheads flew planes into buildings. he chuckled and released me. he even left my pipe in the trunk and a bag of shake that i stuffed down under the seat was sitting on the passenger seat. he pulled it out and left it there. so ya after the homeland security goons left i had a cool cop that helped me out. dosent mean i respect what hes a part of. i am thankful though. still dont like him.
it was illegal search and seizure. i dont know if i would have won a case on that or not. im glad i didnt have to find out. it was also on a highway near flint. flint is one of the most dangerous cities in america. i wasnt a big fish by anymeans. just some guy going up north to party for the weekend.
like i sadi it was some sort of checkpoint thing. they had several cars pulled over. and were using dogs and searching everyone of them. it took a while for them to get to us. and when we asked if we were being detained or could go we were told that we werent being detained but it was taking a while to run our information because they had so many people pulled over to check. they finally got to us and they found it. i was handcuffed, read my rights, and placed under arrest in the police truck. he came in there and asked me questions for 45 minutes about weight. he asked whatt the bag full of braclets in my backpack was. i told him they were from music festivals and i was just bringing some leftovers with me up north. bllah blah blah... he let me go saying id recieve mail about my court date and nothing ever showed up. ive had my lawyer check twice and i dont have anything from it on my reocrd. so he did me allright. after he violated me.
sorry. checkpoint was a bad word for it. they werent stopping everyone. what he told me was that it was a homeland security task force and tehy were pulling over as many cars as they could for any infraction they could find and then using the dogs to search them. it was in no way a checkpoint. they werent stopping everyone. they stopped us for the license plate light. i guess that requires a homeland security task force and dogs. what a joke. do something useful like the tax payers intended!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a tramatizing event that must have been. Not getting arrested or in anykind of trouble. Sounds like from your experience you should love cops. I thought you said you and your friends had lots of experience being screwed by police?
So did he steal from the car? You know because he is so poor. Or did you just blindly make that up?
In all seriousness Dude, you do not seem like the type of person to take this lying down. I have asked several times, why you have not done anything about this? Esprcially if your rights were so badly violated and trampled multiple times. Since you don't like cops so bad here is your chance to take a few off the street.
he stole my hundered dollar bag of smoke. he trashed the car. im not saying some abu ghraib nuts happened. just that they violated my rights for no reason. another time i was pulled over for goin 3 over on a highway. not for speeding but for being on the road at a certain time. and for some reason 3 over justifies being pulled from your car and being given a sobriety test. i should have gotte a ticket and been on my way. once again. but it didnt happen that way. turns out i failed the field sobriety test that allows them to do a breathalizer by 1 point. and i wasnt drunk. i blew the legal limit and got a dui. but the legal limit is a joke. i had 3 beers after work. i wasnt dirving drunk. it still cost my 1500 bucks though. another cop paid.
and in the dui programs a cop flat out told us that they know 80 percent of the people on the road between 1230 and 300 am have been drinking. and they pull over as many as they can to harrass you about doing something they have no reason to suspect you of doing outside of profiling your age and the time that your on the road.
a word of advise. my lawyer in ohio advised me after the fact that i shouldnt have blown for the breatalizer. refusing to blow is a 1 year suspenion of you licenses. mine was suspended for 8 months anyhow. along with 3 different "abuse programs' i was required to attend that totaled 1100 dollars. plus court costs and fines. its all about the dollars. althoguh if you already have a dui he said its better to blow then to refuse on a second offense.

ya well if youve read my posts in the past im not a big fan of the system. im not gonna try to fight the system through the system. just like im not gonna vote for one of the 2 jackasses that are presented to us in this 1 party system america has. i just go about my peaceful existence doing what i can. and karma can catch up with them. its out of my control. my vote dosent count. i can choose red or blue. neither are acceptable to me and they both represent the same thing. and depending what state i live in its a 50 percent chance that my red or blue vote wouldnt count anyways. votes dont change anything. i could fight back. but i enjoy my freedom, and i use it to be peaceful. i do my best to try and keep it. thats why my smoke is inot in plain sight. im not driving around smoking. if my rights actually applied i would have nothing to worry about. theyve got a bunch of bad karma building up and they deal with dangerous people. i thihk karma will get most of them. again, its out of my control.
You know this is just like someone complaining about how much they hate their job and how unfair their boss is yet never tries to find a new job. The first few times they cry about how they have been violated you listen, then it just gets to a point where you have to say........If it is so bad DO something about it!!! My god it should be a slamdunk to any Civil Rights attorney according to your accounts. And if they don't, it's their fault and they need to quit whining about it.
well im not gonna go back and say hey i was never charged with this but i want to bring it back up to fight some cops. and time and time again its fought and lost. if i had been charged i would have fought it. and i likely would have lost. its all one system. the courts have decided its ok to do this. its ok to violate privacy with a dog. an animal that a cop can say is detecting anythign he wants it to. its a freeking dog. a dog thats capable of legally taking away my rights. there is just nothing that can be done. its sad. i dont have the time or the money to fight the sytem through the system in a town 2 hours from where i live. i have too many positive things to do with my time that make me happy and cause me to enjoy my life. i live and let live. i wish everyone else would just do the same unless your truly commiting crimes that endangers someone. victimless crimes arent crimes.
If you think the ACLU is part of the system, your crazier than I thought you were!!!! ;D
the aclu dosent wave its wand and things happen. they have to operate through the system. like i said i have better things to do. and im not a big fan of the aclu. like the police it was created with a good intentions. but its been manipulated into a whole other thing. its rarely about righting wrongs. its about politics. and alot of their positions i have a huge problem with. they are a part of the system. granted a different part. but a part none the less.
im not gonna try to fight the system through the system. just like im not gonna vote for one of the 2 jackasses that are presented to us in this 1 party system america has. i just go about my peaceful existence doing what i can. and karma can catch up with them. its out of my control. my vote dosent count. i can choose red or blue. neither are acceptable to me and they both represent the same thing. and depending what state i live in its a 50 percent chance that my red or blue vote wouldnt count anyways. votes dont change anything. i could fight back. but i enjoy my freedom, and i use it to be peaceful. i do my best to try and keep it.
Not to get off topic, but when you use the excuse that you don't like the 2 parties to chose from, aren't you giving up a piece of that freedom you enjoy? (Look at what a few less votes did to this country and world.)

You act like you know so much but you clearly know so very very little. Do you even know when and why the police in this country were created? If you did you would be using it to aid your argument but you have no clue what you are talking about. The police were not created to help us or protect us, quite the opposite. But times have changed and so has the police force's job.
You are very typical. Run your mouth, and let lies and untruths pour out. But take no part in anything that could right these alegged wrongs. You claim that police steal from people because they are so poor.(With no proof) You claim that most if not all police are corrupt.(with no proof) You claim that all police are trained to violate your rights.(with no proof) And beyond all of this you claim to have firsthand knowledge and experience with police violating your rights.(and you have no proof) Plus youuve never even been in trouble. Never spent time locked up. Your like a barstool boxer but instead your a barstool legal-know-it-all.
just curious, what exactly is a victimless crime? i don't know how to do the quote thing but knoxville you made a point u don't take a class either but it's out there. no one would say cops don't use what they can , but you gotta realize what happens on the side of the road is just the beginning, we still have to deal with da's, lawyers, judges and possible a jury. if we do something blatantly wrong we will lose and making yourself look like you are willing to cheat the system can mean your credibility is gone. judges, da's and lawyers don't forget that. sometimes you gotta accept that we might know your rights and ours better than you do and that we are well aware of how far we can take something to do our job. also i never realized corruption meant looking the other way no matter how small the crime. i guess i should stop giving warnings and even tossing shake and minor amounts into the dirt.
well i dont think kerry was a much better choice. better sure. but not much. i honestly believe that who gets elected makes little differences. its a soap opera where each side takes an extreme view against the other and all the bickering distracts voters from issues and make sure that change dosent happen quickly. meanwhile whatever is happening is being decided behind the scenes. not during countless hours of bickering. and i didnt live in florida so my vote wouldnt hav mattered. if i remeber correctly ohio went for bush in 2000 so if i had voted for kerry my vote wouldnt have counted there either. i always say if i walk into a restaurant and they only have 2 dishes. a bowl of sh.it and a bowl of puke im gonna pass on the meal. thats what i do when it comes to voting. and just in case you needed another reason the whole florida vote scandal is just another way that our vote dosent count. just becasue bush's dad was head of the cia, vice president, president , and his brother and his goons were in charge of florida, and the goons on the supremecourt he stole the presidency. in fact not one single american vote counted in 2000. the only votes that were counted and used to decide our president was the votes of the supreme court justices. your vote didnt count. thats why i have no use for the system. its not of the people, by the people, for the people. thats an illusion.
Lackadaisical. Nothing matters as long as the bad stuff doesn't happen to me. Great attitude, we need more of that. It seems to be working for us so far.

didnt you take an oath to uphold the law? shake is illegal. by dumping it out havent you violated your oath and by doing that become an untrustworthy person who isnt performing their job duties? and if someone is smoking a j or twirling a bag of shake over their head then by all means bust them. but if you pull them over for a light out, or speeding dont violate their rights to privacy with a dog that can be trained to do anything. dont ask or try to trick them out of thier rights. how is that an acceptable part of law enforcement. seems like the opposite of what your intended to do by the taxpayers. just right the ticket. do your job and keep the road safe. why all the searches and questions? its about funding. and cops know it. yall should respect our rights. we have a right to not incriminate oursleves. so why ask questions trying to get us to incriminate ourselves? if we have a right to not be randomly searched for no reason then why do cops ask to search you for no reason? thats why many people dont respect a profession that should be a respectable one.
It just pisses me off to no end that people who want change or difference don't even do what it will take to get that change or difference...doesn't matter if you like the system or not. At least you live in a country where you get a choice...even if you don't care.
(If you avoid it, it will go away, right?)
As far as your vote not counting, everyone's vote counts. Just think of all of the people who, like you, didn't vote because they didn't like the candidates or didn't think it would count. I bet those are a hell of a lot of votes, and THAT could have made a difference. I just can't understand the mentality of "my one measly little vote doesn't matter". Why are we given the right to vote if no one will use it?
so you'd have it that discretion be totally out of the question. i think that may be one of the most important powers we have. also, at least in tn the laws other than a couple are written that upon an infraction an officer may arrest. that tell me discretion is mine to use. how many people do you think get stopped and it never goes to a line of questioning. i'll help you out with that one, it's about 75 - 80 percent. the other 20 -25 there is something that makes the officer think that maybe there is more to the story than what meets the eye. and as far as it making me untrustworthy, i've always felt that jamming somebody up isn't the only way to do your job, guess my whole outlook is wrong. with the new outlook you've given me i'll triple the arrests i make and become trustworthy all at the same time.
