Dangelo abd Mary J Blige to perform at Samsung. Not sure how to get in since it is "invite only". Last year you just showed up early and got a wristband when you showed them your Samsung phone.
I want to see D'Angelo so bad it hurts. Just the mere fact that he will be in town this weekend makes me giddy like a fucking schoolgirl.
Went ahead and RSVP'd to the day party, too good to pass up. And I'm assuming it'll be free Sailor Jerry's since it's curated with them? Even better if so, I'd much rather have rum then beer.

Fader will be livestreamed in 4k all week. Not sure what else. Hype might be.
It sounds like unless you have a badge, it will be near impossible to get into the stubhub showcases Tuesday for Future islands and Thursday for the War on Drugs. These have special registration issues. The day shows will be open from 2-7pm, and the main showcases start at 9pm.
Ya, no way I'm missing Hot Chip. Getting in line super early for that wristband. That way, if 'roo completely blows it and doesn't book Hot Chip, I won't have to cry myself to sleep.
Anyone familiar with the Samsung shows have any clue how big of a venue they might do? Didn't know if they'd continue the 100 person rooftop thing they did with D'Angelo, or move it to a larger venue. I'm hoping, that Hot Chip has the least popularity with the crowd out of those 3 acts. And thank God I have a Galaxy.

Samsung had Prince play at La Zona Rosa, which has a little over 300 person capacity. Other than that and Jay and Kanye performing at Austin Music Hall, I can't recall what other venues they've used in the past.
I saw Broken Bells at the old Antones last year with Samsung and it was roughly a few hundred peeps. I was planning on seeing Atmospherd at Mohawks but.....sory Hot Chip doesn't come around too often.

Yea I was at that show. It was a really quick moment. The guy just slowly meandered on stage and then charged El-P. It was clear that El-P was the target, but I can't even hazard a guess at to what his motivation for that attack was. Afterward, Killer Mike started a "fuckboy" chant while security handled the rest. I was too far away from that side of the crowd to see any of that. Other than that one hiccup the show was awesome. They did about 75% Run the Jewels (1) and 25% Run the Jewels 2 closing with "A Christmas Fucking Miracle". The crowd was surprisingly rowdy for a sxsw show.

That's quite the range of capacities! Hoping it's not Austin Music Hall, I hate that place (looks like it's still open Friday night though). Who thought it would be a good idea to spend $6M to renovate the place, and then make the whole interior cinder blocks so it always sounds like shit? Was hoping Emo's could be a possibility, but it looks like it's booked that night.
An intimate Hot Chip show would be amazing, just going to have to get in line early. Was thinking around 9am, but might adjust that after I see the demand for the first two shows and what venue they're in.
For the Samsung shows, does anyone know if a securing a wristband guarantees you a spot? Or is it just like RSVP'ing where it's still subject to capacity?

Maybe the Hot Chip show will be like the !!! show from a couple of years ago that took place in the backyard of one of the bungalows on Rainey Street. I love those venues but don't know that Samsung has ever used one before.

All I know is, I will do my damnedest to be at the Hot Chip show. Hitting up the Levitation day party on Thursday, and then Hot Chip on Friday. I'd call that a SXSW success story in my book. Will just look around for random things Friday between getting a wristband and going to the Hot Chip show.
Going to be there Saturday too, but most likely hanging with my uncle. He's been dying to see The Church forever, and they're playing 3 shows on Saturday.
A friend of mine is working the Samsung shows. Will report back with venue asap.
That would be awesome and much appreciated. Just trying to gauge how early I need to show up for a Hot Chip wristband. Also, if your friend knows if a wristband guarantees admission, or it's still capacity like a RSVP situation would be cool too.

He said he thinks Miicheladas at 1230 AM. Badge holders and those with an invite from Samsung are guaranteed entry. No word on whether or not you can get in without creditionals.
I will be there 1000 percent. Hope you guys make it in.

Looks like that's just a cool Mexican restaurant with a rooftop patio. So an intimate show for sure.
And just to clarify, "invite from Samsung" means the wristbands they hand out early in the day?
If so, my 9am proposed time to get in line just got moved up a few hours!
Holy shit, I have to make this happen. I'll NEVER get a chance to see Hot Chip in a venue like this again. Fuck, I might consider getting in line at like 6 or 7 am that morning.
Thanks again for the info!
Edit: Can you imagine seeing Hot Chip here? I might have to pinch myself:

"Samsung plans to distribute concert wristbands only to Galaxy owners who have the Milk Music radio app downloaded on their devices."
And yes, venue looks insane.
Ya, I'm seriously geeking out at the possibility to see Hot Chip on a rooftop with maybe 100-150 other people. Thank God I have a Samsung, just need to download that stupid app now.
Already convinced myself to get in line as close to 6am as I can muster.
You got a drink coming your way and your friends way if I make it in (which I must)!
Can we make an official hot chip agreementto help each other get in the show. Report here if you get there early like 8am znd a line forms. I may sleep on the river thursday night

I'll definitely update the status of the line whenever I get there. I'm still hoping to get there at 6am. With the potential venue being that small, I bet they don't give out many wristbands.
It looks like rain all day on Friday. So that will make sitting in line shitty, but hopefully keeps some people away too.
And you should definitely sleep down by the river:
Rain is in the forecast, 70% Friday and 90% Friday night. I'm still planning on getting there early, and hopefully the rain keeps the line down some.
Just going to male sure I come prepared. Bringing a poncho, and most likely wear some Keens. And just have a change of clothes in the car for the show.
Excited for Levitation tomorrow. Going to try and get there around 11, hopefully won't have any issues getting in.
Walked by the Samsung Studio at 1045 this morning. There were maybe 150ish people in line for ASAP Rocky. Still going to get there early tomorrow, bc it looked like the front of the line was semi protected for the rain. Just going to bring a chair and get ready for the long haul.
It looked like the roof top of the Samsung Studio had plastic all over it to protect from the rain for the show, if it's up there.
Walked by Hotel Vegas for Levitation, no line really yet, so grabbing some street food now.
