I see from his snaps that our boy Rothric made it in for the Levitation day party and it looks very uncrowded and Thee Oh Sees appear to be ripping shit up.

It was surprisingly uncrowded, especially at the beginning. When I got in line at 1145, there were literally 4 people in front of me. Turns out they changed doors to 1pm. It was filled up by Thee Oh Sees though.
Sunflower Bean were really good, never heard of them before this. It started out as some pop psych, but quickly changed. At points almost had a doom vibe going, with some inspired guitar solos at other points. Will definitely see them again given the chance.
Wand was was pretty good too, glad to see them again. After Wand, stuck around at the patio stage for La Luz to secure my spot for Thee Oh Sees. Enjoyed them too, but nothing amazing.
Thee Oh Sees, now they were amazing! I was front row for half the show, then as the pit formed at my side, ended up being one person back. Show was fucking great, they were using the two drummer set up. Someone said the other drummer was from Meatbodies, but I can't confirm that (they were playing the same time as Wand). It was my first time seeing Thee Oh Sees, but I can promise it won't be my last. Hopefully will see them again Saturday. But for sure at Levitation.
Which is another good thing. I hadn't bought my tickets for Levitation yet, but they were selling them at the merch booth. Ended up saving $22 by not having to pay any fees at the website. And I get an actual ticket stub, which is nice. They didn't sell camping passes, so will still need to get that though.
They had a guy playing a sitar, and another tablas. They were a nice palate cleanser after the guitar shredding previous. And I've always loved the sitar, really fascinating instrument. They were very talented, enjoyed it.
Deerhoof were great as well. John Dwyer sat behind the drum kit watching for the whole show. At one point the drummer got up and started talking to the crowd. He was clearly tripping HARD, the fact that he was playing drums without issues is pretty impressive! He mumbled on about the sticky floor and moving a cymbal for several minutes. Glad to have finally seen them.
I left shortly after Deerhoof, but it didn't look like they were going to clear the venue. I'm heading to bed now, have to get up early for those Hot Chip wristbands! I don't know how many they're giving out, bit I WILL get one. Aiming to get there around 730ish.
Will update about the line during the morning if others are debating heading out for it.
Ya, assuming it's an old post office. He said they built out the bottom floor or something. And I don't see an active post office at that location now. He said we should get a flyer with the details. He thought doors would be 1030 or 11ish, and that a wristband doesn't necessarily guarantee admission, still subject to capacity.
Or maybe there's a bar called Post Office or something.
Hot Chip is scheduled for a 1245-2 am set time according to sxsw.com. Glad they're getting over an hour.
Planning on seeing Thee Oh Sees again tomorrow at the FFF Fest showcase at Mohawk. Going to get there at doors at noon and hope I can get in with no issue. Oh Sees play at 120. Hope people stay in due to rain so there's not much line.
Stuck around to see if they'd come out, but no luck. Was going to ask them if they'd be at Bonnaroo. Met two cool dudes in line, Travis and RJ, they're going to be at roo this year too.
Crazy lady got upset that two people I met earlier in the day came to stand with me. This was 30 mins before the show started, and there was open room next to me. She tried getting all upset, saying she's been waiting for 3 hours. Bitch, then why didn't you close the free space up (there was a solid 5' behind me, before she was there)? Did you expect that to stay open the whole time? I was pretty confused at first too, didn't understand what she was upset about. I was literally the first one in line this morning, don't try and give me that shit.
Crowd was great (besides her), everyone was super into the show. And free Titos vodka helps too!
Ended up seeing Thee Oh Sees again on Saturday during the FFF day party. I got there at 1250, and walked right in due to the rain. The venue somewhat filled up over the next 30 minutes, but was never at capacity while I was there (left after Thee Oh Sees).
As I got my spot by the stage, I quickly noticed it was NOT Thee Oh Sees gear set up on stage. I started asking people around if they heard anything about a delay or cancellation, no one did.
At 120 (the scheduled start time), John Dwyer came flying up on stage and threw down their rug on stage. He quickly apologized for being late, and the band put together their gear at a feverish pace. It took literally 12 minutes for them to start playing!
It turns out, they thought their show was at 120 am that night, and had just woken up and gotten out of bed a few minutes ago! I can just imagine the panicked phone calls they were getting trying to wake them up that morning/afternoon.
Still a good show, but the one at Levitation was a little better.
Went with my uncle and saw The Church, Swervedriver, Gateway Drugs, and GABI later that night at Emo's. Great show too, really enjoyed it as well.
All in all, I'd have to consider my first time at SXSW a success. Anytime you get to see Thee Oh Sees twice, and an intimate show with Hot Chip, it can't be anything other then a success!
Oh yea seeing Hot Chip and Incubus made my sxsw. THee Oh Sees are now one of NJ my favorite live bands. This year the craziness was supressed by the city by 25% but it allowed us to do what sxsw was meant to do. See awesome up and coming, work horse bands that just love to perform.
Roth were you in town for just Friday and Sat? Do you live here? I wanted to chat with ya but needed coffee and didn't lose the line. How was everyone's SXSW?
Here is a taste of the Hot Chip. I felt like I was on space ship.

I was in town Thursday too, went to the Levitation day party.
I live in San Antonio, but end up coming to Austin for nearly all the shows I see (check sig for planned upcoming shows).
I also saw Thee Oh Sees twice during this sx, once on the 17th and the other on the 20th but both were at Hotel Vegas. They're so fugging great live!! I had never seen them before. Also wanted to. I thought the first show I saw was awesome but what was really sick though was at the end of their set on the 20th, FUGGING BUSHWICK BILL came up on stage and did a medley of My Mind Is Playing Tricks on Me and Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta with Thee Oh Sees. It was one of the coolest moments i've ever seen at a show. Afterwards I talked to one of their drummers and he said they had no idea that was going to happen.
