Excessive heat warnings are for heat indexes above 111 I think. And we’ve both seen endless days of that this summer. Even going to the central Iowa NWS, looks like there can be some one hundred teens heat indexes in the peak of this heat wave tomorrow. But 150’s?
I found a calculator that said you could get 154 at 110 degrees and 51% humidity.
It seems wrong because it's so much hotter than anything else in the area but idk
New Orleans got to 105 yesterday which breaks the old all-time hottest temperature of 102 set a few times over the years. The airport (actually in Kenner and about 8 or 9 miles west of New Orleans) has the official records and has had them since 1946. So that's an 80 year window of time. Gulfport got to 107, Houston got to 109. That's hot af for cities near the Gulf. We also had like 11 or 12 days over 100 which breaks the old record of 5 set back in super hot 1980. It's f'n hot as it's ever been here. Not bitching or anything, it's just hot.

I worked outside yesterday and when I first got to Gasa, it was scorching. A big black cloud came in, never rain, but cooled everything down. It was only 89 (feels like 96) at 7p last night here, which is legit the coolest it has been in weeks, maybe months.
I NEVER say this because I love the heat so much, but I might, sort of, maybe, kind of be ready, maybe? For fall...sorta.
TBH, I thought New Orleans would get regularly hotter than 102 during the summers.
No we don’t see 100 or upper 90’s that often. We get hot but it’s usually low-mid op’s with 70% humidity (or way higher after dark). Never seen anything like it here. I’m with Vieux in that I love the heat so I don’t want to wish it completely away. But a high of 92 or 93 would be a nice break.
Guess fall and winter is coming. Wednesday high in New Orleans is 61 which is coldest average high of the year in part of February. It’s looking like a below average temperature winter for the southeast with the MJO likely spending a lot of time in Phases 8 and 1. Been a few years since we have seen that here. Hopefully it doesn’t get too cold when we get deeper into winter.
Been fucking cold down in the south. Yesterday and today my washer fluid froze so I had to wait for my car to warm up to go to work. Temps are supposed to rise tonight into the 40’s which will be a nice change of pace for here. Step father in law is stuck in Buffalo and can’t fly so dinner tomorrow which is our only mild day until next week is rescheduled for Monday. I’m hoping after this next blast we only have a couple more icy days. Y’all like that shit up north, and I’m okay if I’m just visiting. But damn.

I wonder if different regions get different fluid. It's been -5 in Chicago for almost a week now and never had an issue with my fluid freezing aha. I have issues with my car door freezing solid tho lol

Haha. I don’t know. I had my oil changed Saturday in Pensacola and they put that blue shit in. So you’d think mid 20’s would be okay. Didn’t work but I didn’t care all that much. Boss texted us to wait until 10 to tell our staffs what to do yesterday. So I said fuck it and showed up to work at 11 in jeans and a hoodie which is a nono. But you already know I didn’t give a fuck. My AA friend Aimee called me out today for showing up in a collared shirt and wool trench coat. I figured I got away with that shit yesterday so I had to play the corporate part today. Friday I’ll wear a logo quarter zip and they’ll take it.
Yesterday was February 2nd and I played a round of golf in Minnesota. Completely bonkers being on a golf course during the middle of winter. While it was a lot of fun, this non-winter winter is going to wreak havoc on plants and animals in the spring. I’m pretty sure I’m going to lose 2 lilac bushes in my backyard that I planted last spring so that’s a bummer; will have to replace them if that happens.
We got hammered pretty hard last night by storms. Tornado warnings- which was alarming as exactly a year ago yesterday we had a bad tornado take out half of Sullivan Indiana. It skipped us this year, but hit Evansville IN pretty bad last night.
Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.
