Yeah, the west coast gets much more and stronger earthquakes. They aren't really a thing out here though. So even though it's a 4.8 and not much happens, it's noteworthy.

4.8 can do some damage for sure. Just depends where it is. Wonder what would happen if a big ass quake did hit the east coast and if it would make people leave. Thats what happened in 94 when the Northridge quake hit.
New Orleans got a little socked yesterday. The whole metro got 4-9” mostly in the am. Lots of hail around and a few tornados. Here it was mostly street flooding so lots of inconvenience but you learn to deal with that. I only had to make a couple of detours so I’m not bitching. I didn’t keep up with shit today but I saw on a feed where Charleston was getting hit with heavy rains and flooding today, but I didn’t get a chance to watch it. I’m sure a lot of the southeast saw that shit today. I had to drive 3 hours through a bunch of storms coming back Tuesday from the eclipse as part of that same storm system. Definite white knuckled and probably risked a bit much to get home as I hit a couple spots of ponding on the interstate and a couple hydroplane spots as well as getting stuck near an 18 wheelers which fuck the fuck out of your vision in torrential. Prayers got answered. - edit looks like SC was night and early today. Flash floods are in PA/WV currently.
Best I can tell from storm2k which is where I get most of my weather information online is that it's liable to bomb out tomorrow and Wednesday before slightly weakening coming in at landfall. That looks to be somewhere between Abbeville and Morgan City so SW/SC LA. Storms coming up from the Bay of Campeche that don't landfall in Texas or Mexico usually get adjusted eastward. So small chance it could be closer to whatever is south of Houma (Cocodrie, Dulac). That puts us on the dirty/eastern side. Effects would depend on how far east it landfalls since windspeed in this type of to-be hurricane will be concentrated closer to the center.
Anyway, I went to Costco about 9:45. They open at 10 but were letting people pump gas. Lines were out into the street and back into the other side of the parking lot. I got inside, and it was even more of a zoo. Everyone had cases of water, and it was hard to get back there between everyone stacking. Self checkout line was all the way to the back of the store and wrapping a little when I left at 10:30. But then I went to the grocery store to get lunch and it wasn't all that hit. I passed a gas station that only had one car at it. So maybe people weren't panicking yet. But they will and run on goods tomorrow and wednesday for the last minute mfers.
I was in new Orleans. It was a pretty fun storm since it wasn’t super destructive. We hung outside under a shelter until late when it was mostly over. Streets were flooded around my apartment and we had a roof leak which we put an ice chest under. Power went out late and is still out in most of my neighborhood but it’s back on here. Packed a little more of a punch than I expected.
Yeah. I was supposed to be in Pensacola Thursday-Sunday so I could move some shit back and and bring back some shit to New Orleans. Thinking Ima play the wait and see game. If by Tuesday it looks like Panama City or east of there, I’ll go. But if it’s west of that I’ll wait until the weekend of 10-12 and go see Lotus since I planned to be in Florida for that anyway. Current thinking is somewhere between Mobile and Perry but it remains to be seen.
Y’all be careful inland across GA, SC, west NC and TN. Lots of weather coming up from the south with Helene. Because of the pattern some spots will see a foot of rain or more and also gusts to 60+. Gonna be power outages across the SE. Get you water and batteries and snack food now before panic sets.
Lots of helicity so tornadoes east of the path have been popping all afternoon GA and SC. With all the rain that has fallen last couple days and another 5-10” coming it’s gonna be a mess. NW NC looking back to 1861 for the last flooding they’re going to see. Beware on the eastern slopes.

Internet and cell service just started working for me again. I’ve spent the morning sitting in the dark listening to the sounds of trees falling and sirens. My boss called and told me she’s never seen so many trees down in the 60 years she’s lived in Asheville before. All over the interstates, on peoples houses… another tree just fell in my neighborhood while typing that. Luckily I don’t live in a flood zone! The worst is supposed to be over but I doubt I’m making it to work today!

Absolute nuts in Asheville and Hendersonville which are the only videos I watched so far except for some of Atlanta which also flooded like a motherfucker. Hope everyone else is okay as well.
Was watching some storm chaser live streams last night. Craziest shit of the night probably goes to Connor Croff and friends out in Perry standing outside as the northern eyewall was approaching.

i am hoping more of our Western NC users can check in soon - there are more than a few folks active here who live around the AVL area or its outskirts, and im just absolutely devastated by everything im seeing. i dont live in WNC but that area around Black Mountain/Montreat/Swannanoa is my home away from home, been going there every summer since i was a baby and my mom has done the same since she was a kid, and all those areas are just decimated.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
