With all the rain we're getting it looks like the state parks at Lake Ray Roberts won't be open until mid June at the earliest. I just hope it doesn't get too much worse for the people living downstream from the lake. Things could get really bad.

The rising level at Lewisville is complicating things upstream at Ray Roberts Lake, which is now at the third-highest level ever measured. With so much water walled in at Ray Roberts, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is now monitoring the dam day and night.
"They are actually walking the dam, looking at it to make sure there is no seepage, no slippage points on the sides of the dam," said Corps spokesman Clay Church.
Normally they would just open the floodgates to relieve the buildup at Ray Roberts Lake. But doing so now might create a deluge domino effect in already-waterlogged locales downstream.
So they're holding off for now, though Church acknowledges there are just several more feet to go before the reservoir's level would reach the emergency spillway.
"And water would uncontrollably go over if it reached that high," he explained.
It's important to note that has never happened before. Downstream, Mary Lanford is hoping a precedent doesn't get set this time. As lakes keep rising and rains keep falling, she's just trying to remain calm.

The Trinity River was up to 36 feet Friday morning and was expected to crest at 43 feet sometime Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. If the water does reach 43 feet, it would cause widespread flooding for miles both up and downstream.
According to the NWS, if the water reaches 41 feet, the Old Forest Avenue Bridge will close. If it reaches 42 feet, the S.L. & S.W. Railroad and Santa Fe Railroad bridges in South Dallas would flood. If the water reaches 43.5 feet, major flooding of industrial areas of South Dallas would be expected.
phoenix has been under an "extreme heat advisory" since Monday, and it will remain in effect until next monday. it's been at 109+ everyday since I got home from bonnaroo. it was 90 when I got up at 6:00 this morning.
It makes me chuckle seeing people complaining about the heat at roo this past weekend (which I thought was barely above normal for roo standards)

We are only supposed to get up to 106 today, but I'm showing a high of 109 tomorrow and 111 both days this weekend.

our dog finally broke us as well and his name (ironically?) is chicken.
So I was going to post a picture, but I can't get it to post without showing as a broken image (operator error, obviously), but the town my brother lives in was hit by a tornado yesterday. Totally destroyed a Goodwill and a Rite Aid. It hit just a couple of blocks from their apartment where my mom was at home with my nephew. Thankfully there was no damage at the complex. It developed completely out of nowhere, so it went undetected with no warning. Scary stuff. My nephew (18-months-old) was apparently fascinated by the heavy winds and sideways rain, according to my mom, haha.
Then I learned that I live in the lowest part of my neighborhood. This was discovered by the lake that surrounded my house when I woke up this morning. Thankfully my driveway sits high enough that my car wasn't affected, but my roommate left at 5:30am and the deepest part was up to the bottom of her Ford Explorer. I know this pales in comparison to what happened in Texas recently, but man, I am not a fan.
the high in richmond today was 100 degress. am I sure I want to live there?! :|
Don't forget to account for the humidity! We are looking at a high of 109 here today, but we are at 9% humidity. Looks like Richmond is at 41% humidity. To some extent, the whole "but it's a dry heat" thing is bullshit because, dry or humid, 109 is still really hot. Believe me, I know - the air conditioner doesn't work in my car, and sitting in traffic on my drive home is pretty terrible. But it actually does make some difference because if it's 109 in a dry heat, and you step under shade, it actually feels quite a bit cooler. (Or if I'm in the car and it's moving and creating a breeze, then the drive is not so bad.) But if it's 100 in a really humid heat, and you step under a shade, it's still just really hot and sticky.

trust me, I know more than enough about humidity. contrary to southerner's beliefs, it gets insanely humid in minneapolis. my hometown in south dakota was maybe even more humid. thanks, living on a river + several lakes!
I don't even think I know what a less than 60% humidity level feels like.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

This is derailing the thread, but do you have a moving date yet? I might be in Minneapolis for an event on August 18th.
oh sad!! that's right after I'll move. I have mandatory orientation on the 17th and start classes the 19th. so, even though I actually still don't have a moving date (lol gotta figure that one out....) I'll be gone by then
