it's probably that the crowd isn't miked well, but it doesn't seem like many want jack to come out for an encore...
Haha I was thinking the exact same thing. But also - do headliners generally encore at coachella? I don't have the context since I've never gone before
I don't know but I do know that I never want to go to a show without an encore! It's almost an insult...

I'd love to see a show where Jack has no curfew and just play for as long as he fucking pleases. If only he could headline a festival where he could do that. Oh wait...

Yeah but then he'd probably play a lot of the bad stuff off Lazaretto. If I never hear Want and Able again it will be too soon.

I loved Jack's set at Hangout 2012. I do enjoy Lazaretto, but he played much more stuff that I prefer to that album.
What other current rock band has their level of critical praise, fan praise, festival praise, and mainstream praise? None. And some how you don't think that will translate to Inforoo. Your statement is ridiculous.
Ha, sorry i offended you with my opinion.
Your "opinion" was directed at Inforoo. I'm an Inforooer. And your opion was actually a statement that is wrong. Really, your opinion should be that YOU don't get or like Tame Impala.
We had the discussion of Tame Impala and they are good. If they can hang with what Jack White just laid down then we can talk about them being a headliner!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I've only watched Father John Misty, St Paul, Hozier, Alt J, and Jack White so far. But things taken from Day 2: Father John Misty is a hell of an experience, one in which I need to witness ASAP. Alt J is better left in my imagination unless they regain their passion. Jack White is really one of the greatest showmen on Earth(Up there w/ Sir Paul, Mick Jagger, Springstein, Dave Grohl, Matt Berninger, etc). St Paul is always a fun show, and damn is their lead singer a talented and likable guy. Hozier is a talented and passionate musician IMHO but he just seemed off here and extremely disconnected w/ the crowd...and that background singer singing terribly only made it more obvious.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

this chain of comments is a bit extreme for the posts that were laid out...
I love that ratatat is getting the production value of being in the sahahra but i feel like theres gonna be a lot of dummies filling it up that have no idea how to react to them since they are nothing else like the garbage that regularly fill that stage

Watching Hozier's set right now, and I must say, he definitely rocks harder than most people here give him credit for. However, I completely agree about the backup vocals being off.
Also, somewhat off-topic, but I think Alt-J is vastly overrated.
I saw Jack White when he came thru the Austin Music Hall earlier in January (the 2nd show) and it was fuggin amazing. Better than when I saw him at ACL in 2012, which wasn't bad, but I really dig his Lazaretto stuff.
Was there the first night on the rail. Awesome show! Cool to see Ball & Biscuit with Charlie Sexton

If your going off last nights performance, than yeah. Their Roo set in 2013 was great though. Easily top 5 of the weekend for me. Kinda odd, because I heard multiple people give them praise for the MSG show, which wasn't that long ago. Even though I thought they was off last night, I will still prob try to go to the Charlotte show in September. They will pick it up as the tour goes on.
Jack White was good last night, but his Forecastle set from last year was better and from what I have seen online of his Roo set it was better as well. Run the Jewels killed it. Them and Tame Impala has got me excited for Shaky Knees/Firefly.
Anybody stay up for all of Ratatat? I thought about it, but I can't remember the last time I was up past 3 in the morning.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Alt-J's set started strong for me and then really lost its steam after a few songs. St. Paul was fun as fuck to watch - would've loved to be there in person and catch his energy live. Jack put on an amazing show, unsurprisingly, and Hozier's off background singer was so distracting to me, I cut his set off early.
Jungle was probably my favorite of the night though. Wow that's a talented group of musicians, jamming it out like nobody's business. Cannot WAIT to see them live.

I saw Alt-J last Monday and it was incredible. I don't know if the show just doesn't translate well through the stream, they were off, or if it was a combination of both. But that show last night did not come off well. I don't think it is a strong representation of what seeing them live these days is like though.

It was a good show. It had a bigger crowd than Jack. I think, as you said, it does not translate that well streaming. Some shows just don't.
As for Jack's show, custeph and I were discussing it. It's like when you are making a copy, but you want to save ink, so you put it on that grey scale shitty setting. That was his show, in a nutshell.
Is it just me or does FKA's live show give off a trying too hard vibe...
I don't think she tries too hard because she's got the talent to pull it off. She's definitely working in a different place than pretty much anyone else which I think is bold. I'd relate my appreciation for her to mine for James Blake where it's a very confined and bare production but she still makes much of it. All that said I expected my mind to be blown a bit more but still found it admirable nonetheless. Perhaps the connection would have been better live in person because it is very much about intimacy.
