Thought Mac Demarco's show came off well. Excited to check him out at Roo.
The ending was a little weird, with the failed attempt at crowd surfing and having Eric Andre on stage with a dildo...but overall it was a good setlist and the sound came off pretty smooth via the stream.
Twista was good at one specific thing. I never said he was great, but he gets a lot of respect from his hometown of Chicago. So for me to get bashed for attending his show was pretty ignorant. Especially since i got in for free and the venue is literally around the corner from my house.
As far as my previous point, hip hop hasn't been the same in a while. The substance is lacking. I have listened to both RTJ albums and they're decent. A few solid tracks, nothing that i could just turn on without skipping a song here and there unlike the artists I mentioned. Is there even a song ln either album where they don't say "run the jewels" several times? I'd like to know the count on saying their name on each album.
I'm still planning on checking out their set depending on a major conflict. I just agree with Karen that I don't get all the hype. Maybe seeing them live will change that. I've changed my opinion on several artists after seeimg them live so who knows.
Hahahahahahahhahahahahahaha RTJ has no substance. Get the fuck outta here
I didn't say RTJ didn't have substance, I was talking about hip hop in general as of late.
Like I said, they're better than most out today but they're no competition for a lot of hip hop artists from the past.
I love Sturgill Simpson, but there is something about the way his voice sounds live that I'm not really digging. It sounds like he's playing up his drawl or something. To a point that if I didn't know the words to the songs already I'd have no idea what he's saying. They sound good otherwise but I'm just confused by these vocals. Which I'm really upset about.
I have seen comments like this before. It may just be a matter of where I grew up but I've never had any trouble understanding him.
On the record it's not an issue at all, but live it sounded like a combination of a thick accent and mumbling? I can always hear the drawl pretty clearly, but it was really prominent during that set. Idk, maybe it is just me.
Damn, I like Jungle live a lot more than I liked the album. Same with Todd Terje.
Truth regarding Jungle. I didn't care for their album at all, but they were one of the best shows I saw last year. One of the biggest live surprises I have ever had.
My favorite moment of the whole weekend right now might be Mac DeMarco inviting his new friend "Steve Aoki" on stage to throw a cake into the crowd. "Always with the cake, Steve, Jesus Murphy". Never a shortage of gags during any Mac set, and yes the Eric Andre dildo solo is up there, but the cake is the best one I've seen yet.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I'm really kicking myself for missing his Roo set. This is awesome.
Oh it was fucking great. I was rolling with my now-ex but still reflecting on it is nothing but happy memories. His lights show is just incredible
Ha. Yes I was far from sober myself, but wasn't feeling the vibe. My ex was there and being awkward. I was camped in Guest though so I could hear it from my tent. I hooped in the woods for a bit and ate some cheese. Called it a night.

She's an impressive lady, to say the least. Since I won't be at Roo this year to catch her, I'm really considering going to her show at Merriweather (outside DC) in June even though it is 60+fees. And on a weekday night, I might have trouble convincing a friend to make that trek with me...so could be a solo venture. I feel like she's entirely worth it though.
