tough to say what next years lineup will be like. maybe theyll move to 3 days. im gonna guess they do.
Kendrick Lamar - The Black Keys - Sam Smith Weezer - Brand New - Spoon - Lupe Fiasco - Tove Lo - Walk The Moon The Kooks - Flogging Molly - Portugal. The Man - Bad Religion - Run The Jewels
If they do 3 days, do you think they'll do a full day on Friday or something similar to what Boston Calling does where it's just a couple acts Friday evening?
Either way, nice mock. Here's my attempt:
Bruce Springsteen - Arctic Monkeys - Lana Del Ray Tame Impala - The Roots - Brand New - Ryan Adams - Chance the Rapper - HAIM - Glen Hansard - Cage the Elephant St. Vincent - James Blake - Father John Misty - Janelle Monae - Sylvan Esso - Run the Jewels - The Kills - Leon Bridges Jamie xx - Lucius - Kurt Vile - Delta Rae - The Wailers - Dawes - The Districts - Jidenna - Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats
EDIT: I realize Springsteen is a bit of a long-shot, but let's shoot for the stars. I went with a sort of weak #2 and 3 to offset it

Probably. But I was operating under the idea that they might add a third day. As I said, Springsteen is a huge reach, I just liked the idea of him playing a festival in Washington D.C. But a fest that pulls Drake in their first year shouldn't be counted out, and could easily pull a Gov's Ball and become a really big small fest.
Honestly was impressed with the quality of this fest for its 1st year. The lines the first day were inexcusable but they managed to correct it overnight for the 2nd day, which I can't say about other festivals (uh hum....Firefly how hard is it to just add one more water stand). The music was great. The food was fantastic. And something I noticed that was unbelievable and kind of made me just really love this fest - THE VIDEO CINEMATOGRAPHY. Did anyone else notice for some of the set just how amazingly talented the film crew was? I mean for Daughter we were getting off the cymbol shots of the singer. They focus in when she was blushing or all other sorts of cuteness. For Alt J the off center shots of the artist and through the hazy colored fog. I mean it was really all fantastic.
Managed to see: Twin Shadow, The Mowgli's, Daughter, Band of Horses, Ben Howard (toughest call missing The Lone Bellow), Food Line/A lil' Miguel, The War on Drugs, a Lil' Bit of Drake. Houndmouth, Lord Huron, Joy Formidable(really wanted to see TVOTR but couldn't move my friends), Chromeo, ALT J, Chvrches, The Strokes.
My Top 5: 1. The War on Drugs - First time seeing him, everything was amazing. The rain invigorated added to the set somehow. Just absolutely fantastic. 2. The Strokes - First time seeing them, and absolutely loved it. Although I thought what they were doing was a low-energy show from the horror stories Ive heard, and was still satisfied. Apparently this was a better one. 3. Daughter - Im in love with their lead singer she is absolutely adorable...not to mention they killed and any band that utilizes a bow on guitar prog-rock sound has my heart. 4. CHVRCHES - First time seeing Lauren Mayberry and co. and was absolutely in love. Started a mini - tambourine dance party. 5. Ben Howard - Really emotional show, first time I got to see the sign language translators in action and was mesmerized.
A little bummed I missed everyone before 2:30 PM but Northside Social was well worth the stopover both days!!
Also curious what people put for the "What Would You March For?" mural.

ya man i think a legacy act like Bruce is really out of their range for their 2nd year.
The War On Drugs and Miguel were my favorites (Even though I had to watch Miguel from the food line). I'd only seen TWOD do daytime fest sets before, so seeing them in the dark, and in the rain, was really cool. Wish I'd had a better spot for Miguel.
I think if you were a Drake fan, last night was really good. As a person who's not a Drake fan, I was impressed, but it eventually wore on me, My friends wanted to leave early so we missed the last half hour of his set. Did anything crazy happen after "Started From the Bottom"?
Ha, I was in the beer line during Miguel too. Did you see that fight break out in line? That was fun. Though after waiting for an hour in line for coffee and water only to find out that I had to settle for fucking Redbull, a very tired and dehydrated Jazmo wasn't too happy...but I digress. Miguel was great; I don't care for his music really at all but he's a great performer and looked like he was having a lot of fun. Didn't really need to see his pubes though.
Drake was a lot of fun. I'm not crazy about his music but there was this little kid about 5-7 y/o on his dad's shoulders for the entire show, and he was singing every single lyric and just ballin' so hard! Totally made my night. And he made fun of himself too (something about crying into his pillows), which made him seem more relatable and human. I liked that.
My favorite show was probably alt-J, just because I'm a huge fan of them and they were the only band I saw this weekend where I was really familiar with the music. I was feeling kinda ehh at the time but their show totally flipped a switch for me. Their production has also been much improved over the other times I've seen them.
Dan Deacon was excellent, I went into it knowing absolutely nothing about him but had a great time. War on Drugs was another one of my favorite shows; the rain really added a lot to the ambiance.
1. Alt-J 2. War on Drugs 3. Dan Deacon 4. Drake 5. all the other stuff
The fest seemed really well organized for a first-year fest, aside from the aforementioned beer lines. Security were very slow to tend to the fight that broke out in line, and I don't remember ever seeing a medical tent. Other than that it was structurally a great festival.
My only hope for next year is for a line-up that more closely aligns with my musical tastes. I had a lot of fun but not being crazy about much of the music took away from it a bit.
Also that was the first lunar eclipse I've ever seen, which was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend.

Yaaaay, I'm glad Dan made it into your top 3! I know you weren't really familiar with his music going into it and were considering going to chromeo, sooooo I'm glad you stuck with us for DanD.
The lunar eclipse was pretty cool Not gonna lie....i thought you were kidding at first when you pointed up and were like "look! a lunar eclipse!" Hahahah. But then quickly saw you weren't lying at all.
Also, I second that comment from above about the cinematography. So good! That black and white for Ben Howard, amazing.

i had such a good time this weekend, and didn't see a single bad show. miguel was my number one going into this, and i was a little bummed that he didn't squeeze a few more songs in instead of talking quite so much (though he did squeeze into those pants, as evidenced by the amount of butt crack throughout the show). he also went back to a beautiful exit just about as many times as kendrick played maad city. highlights for me were probably chvrches and the dan deacon dance party. drake was better than any time i've seen him before, and the strokes were great as well. watching the eclipse while dancing around felt pretty perfect. when i filled out the survey this morning, it was crazy how many times i put $0 as the amount i spent on things inside the festival. the food lines were so long, i just waited to eat in town (Rummy 500 took us to some delicious places). the water stations were great and quick, which only became a problem when having to wait 30 minutes for a porta potty. sunday was great, with shorter lines, nice weather, and even less people. the crowds were pleasant, and if the lineup is decent next year, i'd definitely go again. hanging with smellycatJazRummy 500 and for a few days didn't hurt either.

I was just thinking how this could be an every other year festival. The main idea behind it is for restoration of the Mall. There needs to be actual construction for a restoration which would take time. Who knows.
This is a bummer because Boston Calling is also not happening this fall, which means no fall fest for me . Really wish Goldenvoice had decided to do Panorama in Sept.
At the same time the article states it only pulled in 570K when th eproposed renovations are in upwards of over 750 million. Also that article misstates Sweetlife festival! Big Name Headliners my ass. Grimes is the best of that group and couldnt even pull a headliner spot at any festival in the US.
