Are you asking for heavy rock/metal to check out or just lower tier stuff in general?
Regardless, everyone should be amped for Savages.
I meant heavy rock acts to check out - but general suggestions are welcome too! Acts I haven't listened to much, if at all, before: Huey Lewis and the News The Black Angels Atlas Genius Eagles of Death Metal Crystal Fighters JJ Grey & Mofro The Struts Brian Fallon (I know The Gaslight Anthem well enough but not his solo stuff) And most of the stuff below Wild Nothing, except for The Vaccines, The Orwells, Strand of Oaks, Hop Along, Julien Baker, All Them Witches and Diet Cig
And then I certainly have heard a lot about At The Drive In but admittedly haven't listened to that much of them. Best album to start with for them?
How have you not heard Huey Lewis before? He was fairly big in the 80s.
And I don't understand how anyone could ever not love Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem/Horrible Crowes. When even Bruce Springsteen is a fan of your music, you're doing something right. Put on an amazing set at Newport.
I caught the fifth show of the new tour in Pittsburg Tuesday night. As always an awesome show, really enjoyed the new band. He said early on that "You'll know a few, the rest are new, thanks for giving them a chance", we did, and it was stellar.

Had a chance to see his first warmup show for the tour in December and he never disappoints. Not only is he one of the best songwriters of the past decade, but he's one of those genuinely nice guys you'd want to toss back a few beers with. Kind of glad he's a bit lower on the lineup, so hopefully the crowd won't be too bad.

Looks like I am going to try and do this and roo this year. I have family in Atlanta so I don't have to worry about a hotel. I have heard nothing but praise about SK. How is SK with stuff like lines, water, crowd, and bathrooms? I have been to roo where it seems at least ok. I also made the mistake of going to Firefly last year.

It's cause I'm just a bebe. Was not alive in the 80s - I've heard of him for sure, just not given a concerted listen that I can recall.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

The Black Angels are a psych rock band who are pretty great. I posted a video a page or two ago. Also, try Eagles of Death Metal. Josh Homme (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age) plays drums.

I've never waited in line for the bathroom or a beer. The food trucks take fucking forever though. Try to avoid those for a food vendor in a stand. Last year Fox Bros was weirdly tucked into a corner away from the other stuff and that was always super fast. Security is usually quick. Overall I think it's a very well organized fest.

Second this, tons of bathrooms and bars last two years, food has been a problem both years.
Really hope Savages plays the same day as ADTI. Anyone seen those ladies live yet?
Yes. Before I knew who/what they were at ACL 2013. They were really good, but we left early for someone else. I can't for the life of me remember who we left for but I know that I wanted to go back and it was too late.

Josh Homme wont be there, but you should check them out anyway.

Agree completely. Saw his NFF set mostly because I was saving a seat, but ended up loving it
Even the most aggressive stage hoppers only see 30-50 percent of acts, depending on stage layouts. Any festival with "fluff" levels this low will have more "ugly painful conflict" moments than "damn nothing if interest to see" moments.
This. Even though I don't love this lineup like I did the last two, there were about 20 acts on first blush I knew I wanted to see. I've already added a couple more to that with a whole bunch of bands I need to listen to. If you can find 25-30 bands you want to see that should more than cover you for the festival. Not sure why a few "bad" acts (by the way, I've never heard anyone call Silversun Pickups bad music, probably because they're not) would ruin an entire festival for you.
The VIP area looked awesome from GA last year. I got free beers from some people in VIP, and was sold on it for this year at that presale price. Assumed the setup would be similar this year, so the recent discussion has me a little stressed!

The VIP area was great for getting close to the stages. I have the same concerns so I e-mailed Shaky Knees earlier this week. They gave me nothing. They said the VIP information and Festival Map haven't been released yet and it would be sent to those on their e-mail list and posted to the web site when available. No timing given.
I'm thinking Jacket is the Sunday headliner, not Saturday.
I was thinking that too, because of the Louisville dates on Thursday and Friday. But as the poster below stated, Florence has shows Friday and Saturday so she is definitely Sunday. Kind of a bummer MMJ is playing with no rest after 2 shows in Louisville. I bet they'll still bring it!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They seem to handle a 4 night run with relative ease, so 3 straight nights with a short drive isn't too bad. Fully expecting them to melt faces per usual!

Explosions in the Sky announced their full tour and they list May 14-15 for Shaky Knees, which differs from the outer fests/shows they're playing. Safe to assume a Late Night Saturday and regular set Sunday?

Good find on that one. Explosions in the Sky will make a nice late night set. How difficult are late night set tickets to get? Guessing they don't sell out within the first five minutes?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
