Ha yeah I love that a few people have come in here aggressively claiming that there's SO much bad shit on the bill...and yet they can't name any names except for The 1975 and Walk the Poon.
And two bad acts on the entirety of a festival's lineup is really not something to bemoan. Just like, don't go to their sets, maybe.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

If they were called Walk the Poon I might actually check them out. Or maybe that's sexy the late-night variant of Walk the Moon?
But seriously, I love when there's a few bands on a lineup I don't care for. If they were all great it'd be a nightmare. A few crappy and uninteresting bands, especially toward the top of the lineup, are going to alleviate some conflicts.

ATDI, MMJ, St. Paul & BB, Bloc Party, Shakey Graves, Parquet Courts, and UMO are more than enough to get me back to SK. Next step is exploring the bands I don't know. All them Witches and Strand of Oaks are great new finds for me.
Call me a SK fanboy. It's been my favorite festival the last few years. The lineup is always right up my alley, it's local, and I get to stay in a hotel and not a tent. Don't get me wrong, I miss my Roo experience, but old age makes it harder and harder to get back to the farm.
WALK THE MOON, 1975, SILVERSUN PICKUPS(OVERATED),ATLAS GENIUS, CRYSTAL FIGHTERS, FRIGHTENED RABBIT, BRIAN FALLON, FRONT BOTTOM( NOT REALLY MY THING NOT NECESSARILY BAD), FOXING, POLYENSO
I thought this fest was to be the savior for honest and hardcore music fans.
Overall not a bad lineup but there sure is a lot of music that teenagers listen to.

10 bands out of 75. That doesn't sound bad to me. I will agree that the lineup is younger/more alt pop radio than it has been. It's not as good as last year but it's still good. Where are the Dolls?

If you think the presence of those bands ruins a music festival then you have a bizarre way evaluating events. And who gives a shit what teenagers listen to? Just don't go to those sets.

WAY younger and way more alt pop.
It just kind of irks me a little because it seems they compromised the fest to appeal to other and maybe even more mainstream (I hate that word but its appropriate) crowds.
This could probably be due to the fact that they were bought out. Just my 2cents

They're getting bigger every year, that's all it is. Bigger venue each year, more people. The crowd will be a lot younger this year for sure.

At the end of the day it's still a business. I'm not going to give them a hard time about a couple bands intended to move tickets. By creating Shaky Beats they managed to keep the alt-rock focus with Shaky Knees, which doesn't water down the lineup with three different genres. Not that I don't like a good amount of EDM, but sometimes it's nice to have a festival with a singular focus.
They've had non-Shaky Knees related shows during the festival weekend each of the last two years, though never on a Friday (not sure if that matters or not).
I know they've had late night shows that were bands that didn't play the fest. I don't remember anything like this going on during the fest, but I could be wrong.
Yeah, that's E - Me. The Masquerade has had non-Shaky shows on Sundays the weekend of the festival. But obviously Shaky isn't going to host late nights after the festival has closed.
Point being, this does seem to make them unlikely to have a Shaky-related late night show.
I'm not categorically opposed to the genre but don't tend to seek it out at all either. I do like Deftones. Not so much into the Sword, from what I've heard. Suggestions of stuff lower down the bill I should check out, with that in mind?

Just come hang out at all the metal sets, don't be scurred.

Yes.
Are you asking for heavy rock/metal to check out or just lower tier stuff in general?

Anyone have an idea on how close the VIP viewing area has been in years past? I believe this is a different venue, but it sounds like the VIP area isn't really near the stage itself based upon the description on the site.

There is no close vip viewing area, which is a major bummer, especially for a festival of this size. If there was I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat. Instead there are viewing platforms which have good sight lines but far away.

I purchased 2 advance VIP tickets and someting has came up where I may not be able to attend. Will I be able to sell the wristbands when they are mailed to me. Hope I won't need to but probably will not be able to attend. Thanks

At other shows I've been too at Centennial there has been a big tall platform for VIP stage left of the main stage. You're about 20 feet in the air but fairly close to the stage and there's a bar below you.
No telling if that will be the setup this year but in years past I've been jealous of people in that viewing area.

The answer I gave- that there is no close viewing for VIP- came straight from the organizers in response to an email. I told them if I wanted to be up close, was vip worth it and they said no, get GA.

10 out of 75 (13%) < "so much"
listen, I don't care for most of those bands either but that ratio does not = so much. It equals about the right kind of ratio for me...I want some popular bands that I don't like on the bill to draw people away from the sets I do want to see, especially at the mid sized festivals like this one apparently is.
There are at least three times that many bands that I want to see.

And I don't understand how anyone could ever not love Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem/Horrible Crowes. When even Bruce Springsteen is a fan of your music, you're doing something right. Put on an amazing set at Newport.

Agree completely. Saw his NFF set mostly because I was saving a seat, but ended up loving it
Even the most aggressive stage hoppers only see 30-50 percent of acts, depending on stage layouts. Any festival with "fluff" levels this low will have more "ugly painful conflict" moments than "damn nothing if interest to see" moments.

Regardless, everyone should be amped for Savages.
I meant heavy rock acts to check out - but general suggestions are welcome too! Acts I haven't listened to much, if at all, before: Huey Lewis and the News The Black Angels Atlas Genius Eagles of Death Metal Crystal Fighters JJ Grey & Mofro The Struts Brian Fallon (I know The Gaslight Anthem well enough but not his solo stuff) And most of the stuff below Wild Nothing, except for The Vaccines, The Orwells, Strand of Oaks, Hop Along, Julien Baker, All Them Witches and Diet Cig
And then I certainly have heard a lot about At The Drive In but admittedly haven't listened to that much of them. Best album to start with for them?
