After putting such an amazing lineup together in a year that was generally a weak year for festivals, I can't wait to see what they do next year. I will be purchasing my ticket as soon as I can due to faith in their booking ability. People have already started throwing around people they think could/will play next year. So, I figured I might as well start the thread for next year so we have an appropriate place to discuss/speculate all things Shaky leading up to next year.
A couple of my favorite picks for next year are MMJ, Beck, Swans, and Titus Andronicus (if they can just book those four and get Titus to do an aftershow at the Masquerade, I'll be happy with the lineup.) Oh and we know Grouplove will be there, though that doesn't really tickle many people's fancy.
May 13-15 in Atlanta's Centennial Park and International Plaza
I just HAVE to think that MMJ will be a headliner next year. The festival is named for them and Sweetwood says he's tried each year, it just hasn't worked out. The festival this year was right before the MMJ tour started, so bad timing. I have zero inside information but I'd bet on it.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. I really hope it happens! And, without knowing what their tour dates will be, I've gotta think that Titus and Swans are pretty likely as well.
If you went to Hangout, you know how great of a set Beck will put on. MMJ was made for this fest. So....
The Cure | Beck | My Morning Jacket
Wait, this is an honest question, is The Cure too big to play Shaky? Just the Strokes being the #1 this year makes me question whether or not Shaky could afford The Cure... My dear god, if Shaky gets the top three you proposed, Zen, I will be a veryyyy happy man. My ONLY worry about Shaky is that it will conflict with Levitation again.

I don't think so. The Cure played Riot Fest a couple years ago (or last year?). I don't think it would be that radical.
EDIT: Yeah, last year. Played the Riot Fests in Toronto, Denver and the main fest in Chicago.

I was thinking the same thing. I think The Cure is too big for SK. I was at Riot Fest Chcago last year and it's a waaaay bigger fest than SK attendance and space wise. They both shared The National as a HL last year, but Riot also had Weezer, Primus, FLips and Janes Addiction last year.
Primus would be cool, though I've seen them like 4 times now.

Yeah, I think The Cure could maybe play Shaky but I doubt it because that is seriously the biggest they could get. I think any of those others are viable options though I think Weezer would fit better into Ride or Ryan Adams spot on the schedule

I'd rather Shaky Knees conflict with Levitation than Levitation conflicting with Jazzfest like it has in years past. That's the main thing that kept me away from it.
I'm sure Shaky Knees is a great time but I don't see how it could even touch APF/Levitation.

The people that run Shaky Knees have said that they want to continue to grow the festival. You can tell they are doing that from where they started to where they are now. The first headliners were Band of Horses and The Lumineers. Booking The Cure would be the next (big) step up.

Sgt. Blotter, I have to disagree with you. My love for Shaky Knees is not really about the atmosphere, it's all about the music lineup (plus it's close enough to home to talk all my friends into going.) Besides, the more relevant comparison would be Shaky and Jazzfest, I'll choose Shaky Knees every time. So, if Levitation conflicts with Jazzfest next year, I'll be able to do Shaky and Levitation, which would be heaven for me

Yeah, that is the only reason I think it could happen. The jump from last year to this year was easily noticeable and if they plan to continue to progress at the same rate, I could see the Cure, and other acts of that caliber, happening in the next couple years.
The Cure - Beck - My Morning Jacket Weezer - GSYBE! - Deerhunter - Titus Andronicus
(I'd just have to pray that Titus and Godspeed didn't do LN shows on the same night)

Beck and MMJ both seem reasonable and likely. Either of them could easily be the top billed name too.
The Cure Arctic Monkeys MMJ Pavement The Breeders Mogwai Sleep The Sword Baroness Deerhunter Thee Oh Sees Cloud Nothings Ty Segall Courtney Barnett Sharon Van Etten Torres Strand Of Oaks Yo La Tengo Dinosaur Jr. Melvins DIIV Nothing Ought Titus Andronicus Franz Ferdinand The Libertines
Bloc Party had a new album due out this Fall. Vampire Weekend should be releasing new material as well in 2016. I could see them as the third HL.
Great point, I had no idea about Vampire releasing new music and that makes em a decent shot for next year, I think. I'd be okay with them being our #3. Wouldn't be my favorite booking (and apparently many people hated them at Roo last year) but I'd be content with chillin in the grass with my friends at their show
I posted some of these in the 2015 thread but here's my list of wants for 2016 (note: I know not all of these are touring but it's a wishlist, not a prediction):
Damon Albarn MMJ Beck Ben Folds of Montreal Polica Miike Snow Young the Giant Arctic Monkeys Thee Oh Sees Grace Potter Metric Apples in Stereo Helio Sequence Father John Misty Phosphorescent The Rosebuds Junip/Jose Gonzalez Jake Bugg Terraplane Sun The Features Boy & Bear J. Roddy Walston (They brought back Dr. Dog and Heartless Bastards from year one this year so why not J. Roddy) Modest Mouse (See above, plus they have a new album out with another on the way)

And my comeback/reunion special: REM
Metric would be great. Hadn't thought of that one.

while i'll never turn down a chance to see MMJ or Beck would it not feel like Shaky Knees is "a year too late" in getting them as headliners in 16?
Both are headlining Boston Calling, MMJ a second liner at HOF and Gov Ball, and also headlining Forecastle. Not saying I wouldn't attend, but I'd be a little less interested if the headliners were two acts I saw headline multiple festivals the year prior.

I do agree with you a bit, but the one defense I'll give both of them is that they both will have new albums out by then. Or at least be gearing up for new albums

Do you think Tame Impala and Avett Brothers fit in that category?

Why would that second line after Weezer be second line? I can't see any of them being that big, unless the lineup isn't that deep (popularity wise) after Weezer.

No, I agree, I just didn't wanna flesh out a full mock lineup, I don't think any of them would be second line, though I'm not sure exactly where any of them WOULD be booked
I'm not sure how many lists Shaky Knees is 'liking' on the facebook posts asking who we want to see next year, but they liked mine and I feel good about it. I expect to see a lot of those bands there next year.
