Takeaways from the final day of Shaky Knees:
-Apparently drinking beer at a 10:1 ratio of water in the middle of the blazing heat leads to sun poisoning. I had to tell the body collector from Monty Python and the Holy Grail as he passed by the rail that I wasn't dead yet to avoid being forcibly removed by wheelbarrow. I had an emergency Red Bull in my pocket, that I used as the equivalent of Popeye's spinach to survive the final two hours. -I feel like I might have pulled a Walk the Moon, skipping ATDI for Florence -The Orwell's singer is a combination of the biggest rock star and biggest train wreck I have ever seen and it was thoroughly entertaining to watch. It's not every day the lead singer falls into the bushes in front of the stage and forgets the words to their main single. -Parquet Courts didn't play "Stoned and Starving." They aren't Noel Gallagher; they don't get to not play "Wonderwall" whenever they feel like it yet. And yes, I just compared "Stoned and Starving" to "Wonderwall." -St. Paul put on a good show, but this was about when the sun poisoning kicked in, so there's the distinct possibility I was hallucinating. -The Head and the Heart pleasantly surprised me, despite being without their lead singer
-I feel like I might have pulled a Walk the Moon, skipping ATDI for Florence
You did.
It's okay, I'll just see them at one of the many other festivals they aren't playing at. I dropped the ball on this one. I blame the sun poisoning on my lapse in judgment.
Final day of Shaky Knees was pretty fantastic all the way through. Started my day being on the rail for Diet Cig. It was such a cool intimate experience. I high fived the lead singer and got a picture with them after the show. They were very cool. I enjoyed The Eagles Of Death Metal a lot. I've never listned to their music but I was dancing through a lot of their show. Deftones finally gave me a much needed mosh pit and release of agression. I mean vibing to all these nice indie rock bands is cool, but on third day of Shaky Knees and not one mosh pit for me....this had to change. So thank you Deftones. Then of course ATDI was incredible. I heard some people complaining they started 10 minutes late and ended 5 minutes early....but come on. Their catalog isnt super deep and they played their asses off the entire time. Who fucking cares if they didn't fill up every minute they were scheduled for.
I had to tell the body collector from Monty Python and the Holy Grail as he passed by the rail that I wasn't dead yet to avoid being forcibly removed by wheelbarrow.
...huh?
And I'm glad ATDI gave a great show. Yes I would've liked to see them, but I was smiling the entire time Florence was on stage and it was my favorite set of the weekend so I have no regrets on my choice there.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Unless your familiar with ATDI's music, and I'm sure a lot of the demographic attending this year wasn't going in: choosing Florence(a well seasoned act) vs a rarity like ATDI shouldn't be frowned upon. That's like going to see NMH because everyone else is seeing them, but you are a bigger DCFC fan and have all their music. Now obviously if this is the opposite scenario, where you aren't a fan of Florence or DCFC and more into acts like ATDI, then yes that should be frowned upon.
Anyone have a spare wristband that I could have now that the festival is over? I gave mine away Saturday night because I couldn't go yesterday but I would still like to have a general admission 3-day for my collection. Thanks

For proper context (scene of me battling sun poisoning):
Florence did put on an incredible show and I couldn't have asked for a better location directly in front of the steps leading off stage. She has definitely earned her headliner status.
ATDI was better than I expected. I was expecting high energy but didn't expect them to sound as great as they did. I didn't even miss Jim.Keely did a great job. The whole festival was great. Another amazing MMJ show. Great weather. The crowd was never a problem. We survived the bridge of death! Top shows

orwells are always such a good time. saw them in a tiny little club in philly with my best friend and his ex at the time, she ended up going "backstage" with the lead singer.
-ATDI should be at Funfunfun or Riotfest for anyone that missed them. I can't see how they don't land somewhere around there. They are high on my list for fall fests. -LOL @ Parquet Courts. They didn't play that either at FFF and I wasn't too impressed by them even though I really like their sound. -Glad SK turned out good. Def like the line up!
Because ranking things are fun....these are all based on my personal experience at all of these shows.
1. My Morning Jacket 2. At the Drive In 3. The Front Bottoms 4. Bloc Party 5. Diet Cig 6. Deftones 7. Slowdive 8. The Decemberists 9. Foxing 10. Wild Nothing
I wondered how many would not get your Monty Python reference.
No, I did get the reference - I love that Monty skit/scene. But I was just confused about what real life scenario he was trying to explain. I never saw shaky knees workers scouring the crowds for people who needed to be whisked away.
And actually, that was something I observed about this fest that was fantastic - very few too-fucked-up people.

My 3rd year at SK... It has really shaped up to be a nice midsize festival. Tim Sweetwood must be a lost relative of mine because we have the same taste in music.
Highlights: - MMJ brought it! My 13th time seeing them, but wow. - The Struts were a total blast. Very unexpected, we wandered up and just had a great time. Think of Mick Jagger mixed with Tim Curry from Rocky horror... - St. Paul & Broken Bones were a close 2nd to MMJ's set. Remarkable voice! - All Them Witches were a really nice surprise. Tight band, sort of psychedelic metal - Parquet Courts.... Meh. I also dig their albums but their live show seems a bit lacking. - UMO were very tight and funky. Caught the last 30 minutes after departing Parquet Courts.
I love this festival because I'm always pretty confident I can walk up and enjoy whoever is playing. And the weather... AMAZING!

That's what I've noticed about this festival too. People are overall pretty polite. Not a lot of pushing or running a train of people holding hands through an already crowded space. I heard that some of the 1975 fans weren't so great, especially during Ghost. But I wasn't there for it.

What a great weekend! Flicking back through some of my pictures now while I wait for my flight home. My top sets for the weekend: -MMJ: I was literally in awe the entire time. I was only a casual fan before, that set just elevated me for sure - Florence: I hope everyone took some clothes off when she asked us to. Just me? Well fine then.. - Ghost: Just amazing start to finish. Everything I hoped it would be! - Decemberists: much better than the last time I saw them! - EODM: straight up blast. Couldn't stop bouncing about
Also, it was great to meet a few of you guys for the first time! That was a highlight of this weekend for me - putting names (real, or fake) to faces. Hope to see you at some fests in the future!

Wow, that was a lot of fun! Here's my Top 10 from my first Shaky Knees:
1. Baroness 2. At The Drive-In 3. My Morning Jacket (11th Show!) 4. Slowdive 5. Savages 6. St. Paul & the Broken Bones 7. Ghost 8. Explosions in the Sky 9. Deftones 10. The Black Angels
Even though I'm not a big fan of this year's venue, everything was fantastic. And I got to meet a few more Inforoo people!
Look at that dashing gentleman in the stars and stripes. Based purely on the back of his head he seems like the type of guy I'd like to know. (Thank you for the picture by the way. Despite posing for a few dozen photos, I kind of forgot to keep one for myself).

Just bumping this once in case anyone didn't see it

I understand reviews from two different people for shows at the same time, but how can you rank the shows when neither person saw both shows. I can't say ATDI was better than Florence when I didn't see both shows. Although I know MMJ was better than Walk the Moon. I'm not a fan of Ghost, we caught that show waiting for The Kills, but to say that was one of the worst sets of the weekend is ridiculous. I would put it in my top 10.
