So for me and two of my friends this will be our first hulaween. If anyone has any good advice for some first timers I would really appreciate any info. We plan on leaving cincy Thursday night and driving straight through the night. All three of us have been to roo several times and we all backpack and camp regularly so we have a decent amount of gear we can bring but we don't really want to bring anything that isn't a necessity due to the long drive. Two specific question I have is how long of a wait is it to get into the campground and how far away (average) are the campgrounds from the music area? Thanks in advance for any info. I'm getting really excited!!

I haven't been to Hula, but I have done other SOSMP fests. You need less gear than you think. How far will depend on where you can find a spot, but nothing is that far from the music- especially compared to Roo. There is also a lot of tree cover, so the sun isn't beating on you even if you are a little further away. Someone like Scrog could probably give you specifics, but I couldn't imagine anything being more than 10-15? As far as wait time to get in... it was minimal. I think I waited 10-15 minutes to get my wristband.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

This'll be my 4th fest at sosmp, 2nd Hula. Like Bonz said, less then 15 to get in. The venue is giganormus. You can find chill areas to camp that'll have u walking anywhere from 3-20 minutes.
Camping near the Lakes is crowded, but very lively! Also, it's close to the stages.
There will be less ppl if u continue down river rd, but further walk to everything minus the treehouse. I've camped right on the river for Aura fest & my cloest neighbor was 50 yards away lol. I had several ppl compliment me on such a great spot.
Personally, I usually camp between the main rd and the music hall. It's a 5 minute walk to everything, including the parrots!
sosmp has the largest bathouses in the state, fits perfect for Halloween wknd! Be sure to check out the lake at night...wild!

So you get to pick where you camp? Is camping next to your car or do you park somewhere and pack all your shiz to a camp spot. Thanks everyone for helping a hula-noob

You pick any open spot you want to camp and you can park right there and camp
Like folks said, it takes only a few minutes to get into the park. Standing in line to exchange tickets for a wrist band takes up 96% of that time. Same goes for your walk from camp to the festival grounds. It is at the most a 10-15 min walk from the most distance camp sites. You do get to camp by your car and you get to use as much room for your camp site as you can grab. It is pretty open at SOSMP, with lots of shade spots. I would only recommend not parking and camping directly next to the bat house. You will get guano on you.

Someone on the Hulaween subreddit was talking with some folks working at SoSMP and they said that this year's attendance will be huge and even way bigger than Wanee's

FWIW they're probably saying bigger than this year's Wanee, which I heard had much lower attendance than previous years since the Allman Brothers were absent this time.
Yeah, I'd honestly much prefer that Pretty Lights wasn't at the fest because his music is pretty good and it'll be nice to chill in the back on the hill after Primus freaking everyone out. But, the crowd that will come for just PL is going to be awful. Hopefully, they all waited and just bought single day tickets for Friday so they won't be around the rest of the time.
That poster ^^^^ is awesome!!!! I may have to buy it. I'll wait to see if there are any Primus posters for the fest and if not, I'll likely get that one.
There won't be a Primus poster for the fest. They've never had prints for fest sets in the past. There *might* be a Zoltron one for Monster Mash though since they're playing there on Halloween. I know Adam Jones is doing a print for Tool.

I didn't think they did them but I wanted to keep lying to myself. Thanks for ruining the illusion you son of a bitch!

I was at the park this weekend (hiking, stayed Friday night only) and talked to some of the people there. They said this will be the biggest fest ever at the park. They've sold a couple thousand more tickets at this point than any other festival. Of course, this is coming from people who work there, and they may not have the most accurate information - but several of them were talking about it. I asked "Bigger than Wanee?" to which one replied "Oh, yeah. Its going to be huge. I don't know where they are going to put all the people, but they will just keep selling tickets"

Here's a post by one of the hulaween promoters a few months back on the wanee forums. The post if from earlier this summer:
While Hula did grow last year, it wasn't as much as you think. What you experienced is likely that a new traffic plan was implemented that distributed folks more towards letter "D". In 2013, most folks were jammed up at the lake, so the lake was packed while the Eighty Acres was empty. There was more than 8k on site. This year we expect over 10k.
Handsnfeet- I honestly don't know the Wanee totals, as those are not shows I'm involved in. The biggest daily total was the first Panic year, I believe. I've heard 19k is the top daily number of tickets sold. Aura is under 5k but growing. Sometimes you'll hear numbers like 30,000 people. That is probably someone saying 15,000 x 2 days.
So I just had my ride back out on me. I already have a Tix. Just need a ride. I can get to Atl, Orlando or Jacksonville. I could also get anywhere the Megan is will take me. If you can help of know anyone who can please let me know.

I know it's not ideal; but if it helps, I'm leaving Wednesday from Gainesville. I'm an hour south of sosmp.
