-------------------- Word up Fore34. I love the place, the lighting, the vibe, the old hoe-down music hall, the forest stage... It's a pretty awesome place and only about a 6:30 drive (plus the hour to switch to Eastern Time). We only went last year, and for a super small festival like Bear Creek, it was awesome. I think that's the smallest one of the main rock fests they have (Aura, Purple Hatter's, Bear Creek and Hulaween). What I find super cool is the level of jam you get there at any of those 4 fests. Clearly they must take pretty good care of the bands to have them continuously coming back. Everyone I met there (workers, maintenance people, staff, etc.) were super nice.
Yeah man, every festival at Suwannee is full of jam, haha. Aura and Purple Hatter's are SUPER small. I went to Bear Creek back in 2013 because the lineup was so stacked (The Roots, Bootsy Collins, Bonobo (live band), Lettuce and Lettuce based Superjam show.) I just couldn't pass that up (though I certainly paid a huge price for it.) Everyone involved in making the Suwannee fests happen are really cool. In years of going, I have never met a single worker/staff/security/etc. that wasn't really cool. There is only one thing that people ever have a problem with at SOSMP and that's the number wooks (which sometimes gets to me too, but it's a small price to pay.)
There is ONE PROBLEM with the amazing lineup they put out for Hulaween though... All the EDM kids that are going to go just because of Pretty Lights. Like, seeing the crowd at Big Gigantic last year in combination with the fact that it was EDM, felt really weird. It's just not the kind of music that the SOSMP has traditionally had and it definitely isn't the crowd it has always attracted. And as much as I like PL, I think the crowd that's going to follow him is going to put a damper on the "vibez" (not to sound like hetty or anything)

Ive been eyeing out festivals at Suwannee festivals for a while now. Think Im finally gonna get there for this one. I was even driving home from Roo seeing the signs and said I should try to get there for a festival. This is the first lineup Ive seen that I can get real excited for. Fall camping festival relatively close to home, need to make this happen!

I hear you, but Pretty Lights is the one DJ that works with and runs with all those guys from his work with them all in the studio (talking Coomes Bros from Lettuce, Krasno from Soulive, Adam Deitch from Lettuce and Break Science, Borham Lee from Break Science, etc.). His followers tend to cross more musically with the jam fans than say your average Deadmau5, Tiesto or even Skrillex fan. We got a few electronic acts at Bear Creek last year (Break Science, The Floozies, etc) and all the hippies were getting down as well. Obviously one is usually more likely to see Jamtronica acts than traditional Electronica acts there. Also to yur point, the curator/boss man of Bear Creek personally returned a few emails I sent in with questions. The main one was that he was a bit of a food snob, so don't expect bs fair food. They absolutely did not disappoint. And that's coming from a born and raised New Orlenian. Now I don't know if the same trucks or vendors work all the fests at SOSMP, but if so, that along with the music and atmosphere was a big plus.

Oh yeah, PL's fanbase certainly has much more crossover than pretty much any other EDM act of that caliber. I've just already scene the EDM kids I know on Facebook start saying "looks like I'll finally make it to SOSMP for Pretty Lights!" which makes me a tad nervous for the crowd being different than usual. It's all good. The kandi kids (or however they spell it) won't be prepared to get weird with me at Primus so I know they won't be able to ruin my time. And everyone likes PL so the hippies will dig that too. I'm honestly eager to see how the Suwannee crowd handles Chance because he is only the second hip hop act that I can think of to play SOSMP.
And hell yeah, about the food. The food trucks have been amazing at every fest I've been to at SOSMP. Hulaween and Bear Creek were managed by the same guys until this year I believe (BC got different management) so BC and Hula generally have the same food vendors I believe and I love it! I just have trouble not going broke trying to eat all the delicious foods. Also, I love late night haggling with the little food vendors! My friends and I always compete to see who can get the best deals of the weekend.
If you want to talk about atmosphere, I seriously don't think any festival can top the atmosphere at Hulaween (not even any of the other SOSMP fests come close for me) So, if you can, you really gotta make it out for Hula this year.
This would be cool to see Chance at but Fest is the same weekend
Yeah, I love punk as much as the next guy but there are only a handful of acts I'm really dying to see at Fest. This easily tops Fest in every aspect accept punk rock. The only other upsides to fest are sleeping in your own bed and the tickets being cheaper.

Yeah I'm volunteering at fest so I'm going for free. Plus I live walking distance to downtown. I'm sure this will be a good time too! Also no way I can miss Desaparecidos!!

Yep, desaparecidos was by far the main reason I wanted to go to Fest but I've gotta skip it with this Hula lineup

I'd do it in a heartbeat except I live within walking distance of Voodoo. So even though I know i will like the full lineup better than Voodoo, that's a fd weeknd for me to travel. Ive got ACL 2nd weekend, and if I bail on that, Bear Creek could be in the cards. If not, I may try to get there for Aura or PHB next year. We all enjoyed ourselves last year, and we plan on returning within 2 years. I'm also going to try to get back to Pass the Good in Pensacola this year if possible.

Haha, I actually have the opposite with Voodoo and Hulaween. I want to do Voodoo but I've Hula right by home. That's a shame man. All of SOSMP's fest are good, but Hula is easily my favorite. If they do it again next year, try to make it happen man. Otherwise, just let me know which fest you end up going to at Suwannee and odds are I'll be there!

I love chance the rapper, and I'm excited to see him.. but damn does he seem out of place on that lineup. Kind of surprised he's booked above STS9 too (for a festival like this especially)
Primus was a big surprise for me also. If they hadn't been suggested earlier in this thread, I wouldn't have imagined them getting booked either.

Really? Primus to me doesn't fit quite perfectly, but definitely made sense as an option.
Chance on the other hand, I was shocked. The only reason I could see it happening is because he performs with an amazing backing band that also does all the recordings for his studio work. I think that it'll work, mainly because of the different crowd being brought in via PL that is more likely to be into Chance than the jam fans would be. Whatever, I'll be on the rail for both Primus and Chance and probably in the back for all other shows so I can get my groove on in open space.
Chance will be good. He has a good understanding of how to work a given crowd. At Waka he busted out the, "Alrught I know this is a chill festival but.. and people responded. My middle kid gave it top show of the weekend, and I had it 9. I think because he parties as much as he does, he is comfortable in a hippie arena. Also, don't be surprised to see him come out with others for their sets. He was in 3 or 4 shows at Bonnaroo and a couple at Waka as well.
Yeah. I was hoping for Primus, but I figured that was just me being obsessed with Primus. I didn't think it would actually happen. Color me stoked. And, while I'm typically not into it, I've always had a blast at every rap/hip hop set I've been to at a jam festival. There's something about getting down with a bunch of hippies in a field.
Also, Primus is still doing their Chocolate Factory set and that would be absolutely ridiculous in the SOSMP. Hopefully we get the Chocolate Factory show and then they do an immediate second set with like 7 classic songs.
Theatrics wise, the chocolate factory tour would be great, but I really don't love that album. I'd much rather hear some classic primus.
The reason I hope for a Chocolate Factory show is because when they do those shows, they do the entire album and do an entire set's worth of classic Primus songs as well. I looked at sets though and it appears they do not do the chocolate factory at any festivals. Even in the middle of the chocolate factory tour, when performing at a festival, they just play old Primus stuff (which I'm totally cool with)
Funk Yeah! I am lovin' the lineup. Lots of goodness in there. I was not expecting Primus, not that I would not see their sound at Hula, I mean when I hear Cheese, I hear a lot of different sounds, so to me a lot of sounds could be on that lineup. Not sure their set will be Chocolate(seems like it would be mentioned in the line up or on the webpage), but we know it will have a funk. So Happy to see some Lettuce in there! and I would be surprised if they are at Bear Creek.
Glad to see some first timers coming to SOSMP and Hula, I have to agree, it is the best venue. The Gorge is an absolutely amazing view though and I can not wait to enjoy it, someday. Too bad it is across the country.
As far as food goes, would anybody like to see the Amish Baking Company (Doughnuts) at Hula? I do like those tiny doughnuts that have appeared at the past fest at SOSMP, they are good, but too many choices, too many choices and I get confused. KISS and lets go with a large, simple, basic, ABCs, glazed doughnut done extremely well!!
Last, anybody have any request for Hula, like who would you still like to see on the lineup? I say let them know, now, here. I want a Marching Band. Empire Strikes Brass, Love Bomb Go-Go or a Minor Mishap type band, M4? Then, how about Glass Animals, their set at Bonnaroo looked amazing as did the Growlers. Ghostland Observatory? I know how the kids enjoy the lasers.
If there are more to be announced, they could be looking for some ideas, I would request them here and now. Maybe they are full, maybe not. Someone will most likely be reading this thread though, if not already.
Also, Austin and Northwest, if you do not know, you should check out Minor Mishap, out of Austin or Love Bomb Go-Go, out of Portland. I think you will enjoy them
I thought Funkadelic Food Truck out of Jacksonville was outstanding. You got roasted beet fries and two pork chops with solid ass gravy for like $8.00 last year at Bear Creek. We ended up sharing some beet fries with Adam Deitch (Lettuce, Break Science) and went back and got more the next day. Very, very solid and psychedelic looking food truck. Not sure if they'll be there, but if so, don't sleep on them.
"Festival goers can also get excited for the return of an expanded Spirit Lake – an experiential artistic glowing menagerie of multimedia metalwork, paintings, sculptures, light projections and live performances that morphs the prehistoric-looking forest into a vivid dream-like space. With hardly any overlapping sets throughout the weekend, attendees have plenty of time to wander the mystical campgrounds abuzz with costumed fans and interactive theme camps while not missing any music they want to experience"

Was able to get my ticket at the $179 price woo! Man those sold out quick, less than a minute. And they're still going up so if you're trying to get in cheap better hurry!
LMFAO. It was a brown gravy but not out of a can. It had that type of consistency, but it was sort of a light brown color (thinking garlic and pork jus?). Don't miss out on at least lunch or a snack if they post up at Hulaween. Food from that truck was easily in the *** ( = 3 star) quality level. For a food truck, it doesn't get much better. And don't skip the roasted beet fries even if you don't like beets.
Wow, glad I grabbed them at the $179 price too. I'm really excited to pop my SOSMP cherry
Yup same here. As others have said, I've heard nothing but good things
Its gonna be amazing for y'all!!! I was in the middle of dealing with the advisors at UF when they went on sale and consequently missed the. $179 price, but I got one at the $199 price so I'm not that bummed. See y'all there and get ready to get weirdddd. Careful what state of mind you enter the Spirit Lake in!
