While we dream, I want them to play in this order: Twiddle, TAUK, then UM
PS. get well soon AC
so is this Tauk worth checking out? I think I've heard tracks on Jam On but nothing sticks. If so can anyone recommend a show/album? thanks.
Their shows are unreal!! Isaac is one of the best drummers around, just watch him play and you will be amazed. I have Homonoclous (sp) as far as their albums go and it is good, but they don't get as deep and dark into the songs as they do live. I'm very happy Jam On varies their songs lol. They are on the verge of blowing up. I recommend seeing them strongly as anyone here that met me at AURA will attest.

They are all about the live. We first saw them at Bear Creek last year for 2 shows. It's sort of a modern take on progressive jazz, but they throw in some funk and other elements. We then saw them at NOLA Brewery for an outdoor show along with Gravity A doing Talking Heads. We talked to the drummer after the show, and they were splitting for Aura that night. Everyone who sees them (music lovers anyway) are pretty surprised. I think Jabco told me the bass player is the son of the owner of the NY Knicks. They have their own website www.taukband.com where you should be able to dig into who and what they are. They offer:
TAUK is heavy instrumental rock fusion created by Matt Jalbert (guitar), Charlie Dolan (bass), Alric “A.C.” Carter (keyboard-organ), and Isaac Teel (drums). The transcendent instrumental band seamlessly brings together genres as diverse as melodic rock, fusion, gritty funk, progressive rock, ambient, classic rock, hip hop and jazz.
The Oyster Bay, New York-based quartet has received accolades from a number of tastemaking authorities, including an “On The Verge” feature in Relix Magazine and frequent rotation for the singles “Mindshift”, “Sweet Revenge”, “Dead Signal” and “In the Basement of the Alamo” on Sirius XM Jam On. Despite their years of experience as a musical unit, the quartet is a young promising band that Jambase calls “a guaranteed quickly-ascend band.” The Washington Post describes the band by saying: “TAUK’s instrumental music melds genres and styles, creating a hard-charging, often melodic fusion that – thanks to a penchant for improv – offers limitless possibilities” and The Deli Magazine singles out the band’s compelling melodic sense through explaining: “the quartet has a rare ability to channel emotional melodic leads, and all without a lead singer.”
The band’s latest album, Collisions, is a breakthrough in that it finally captures the essence of TAUK’s entrancing live shows. It’s a thoughtfully composed album with captivating hum-along melodies, but this time the band was able to road test the songs, allowing the recorded versions to reflect the group’s adventurous improvisations. The 10-song album spans delicate ethereal textures, highly imaginatively funky drumming, labyrinthine arrangements, and fiery solos—often in the same song.
For an idea of what we saw, check out Tauk at Bear Creek 11/15/14. It's a pro-shot black and white video, but if you scan through it, you can see that the music evolves pretty much through every song. Around the 59 minute mark, there is a great little jam part. There is also a great 2 hour video full set from Orlando on 5/6/15. They are definitely one of my favorite up and coming bands (ala Kung Fu but different). I heard the opening set at Jazzfest was also incredible, but I couldn't get in that early that day.
*edit* You can listen to all 3 of their albums on their website at: taukband.com/music/
I would love to see Lotus added. Love them and they fit right in. And UM, but that's just a given.
I had a meeting at noon, so I got in the ticket site 45 min late - got 3rd tier and that was lucky. Someone must have let theirs go right when I refreshed and they showed up. I would not wait in these.

I am super stoked for Primus & Dopapod!! I saw Dopapod at at Roo this year and I went into that show having only heard the song Trapper Keeper so I didn't have any real expectations on what they would be like. Blew me away! As far as adds I'd love to see The Flaming Lips! Probably very unrealistic so I won't be disappointed when they aren't announced. The OwsleyBrothers would be fantastic. Obscure yes, but they are great live or in the studio and would make a good fit at this fest, Psychedelic-Garage Swamp-Blues is an accurate description.
OH! And ROTI ROLLS!! Thurman Murman changed my life!
I got pretty bored seeing pretty much the same Flaming Lips show over and over. But it's been a few years, so I'd be down with seeing them again. The FLips on the amphitheater stage on Halloween would be pretty dreamy.

I'm pulling the trigger on this just after midnight this coming Thursday (technically Friday). I've never been to any SOSMP event. Man I love going to new fests. I have that same giddy feeling I remember the first time I committed to going to roo. I have a couple of questions for you vets. Being that this is at the end of Oct. I'd imagine I wouldn't need to bring half the shit I bring to roo in order to survive. I know it can/will get chilly so extra clothes for daytime vs. night time. Is it reasonable to assume I could get by with just a tent and some provisions or is the EZup a must? Anything you think is critical to bring in order to make it through the weekend? Tangible suggestions please, I know a positive outlook and sense of wonder, I got that covered!
I haven't seen the FLips new setup yet so I'm very curious.
You don't need an ezup if you camp in the woods. We only use one if it rains. Last year it was super fucking cold, though. Not just at night. All day. It got below freezing at night. Crazy. But the year before, I think I only wore a hoody one night. You can have campfires, though, so it's all good.

nah you don't need an ez up if you get a spot in the trees. so much shade you'll be fine. as was already mentioned just be prepared for really cold weather. It might not be, might be pleasantly chilly, but there was one bear creek where it was insanely cold all the time. I had thermal underwear on all over, shirt, sweater, heavy jacket, jeans, boots, and damn hand warmers in my pockets and I was still freezing walking around the grounds (but very happy). Also i've got that southern blood that doesn't take kindly to the cold so do with that what you will. just don't assume florida = warm weather all the time.
anyway you will love SOSMP, it's a strange and awesome place to see live music.
How quickly does this sell out usually? Or does it usually sell out?
Yeah, never sold out before. But, this is the fastest I've ever seen Suwannee tickets sell, so buy em asap simply to save yourself money because they go all the way to $269 at the gate for GA (which is way more expensive than usual)

Like others have said, no EZ-up is necessary if you get a spot under the cypress trees. My friends and only really bring tents, foldable chairs, and fold out tables (in addition to booze and cash) and that really is enough for us live off of. You can buy firewood just outside of the campgrounds, on your way in to the festival (great weather for s'mores!!) Otherwise, just show up ready to have a great time!
Also, so, good piece of advice: if you get up early, you can walk into the grounds where all the stages are and you can just walk right out the other side of it and go to the VIP restroom (where there are free showers!!!)
I'm also a noob to SOSMP but I live just over in Jacksonville so I get the weather thing.
I specifically wanted to ask about EZ ups. Do you pretty much get your camp spot assigned or do you get any say in it? Also, if you're coming in with a big group how easy is it to be camped near each other?

You can camp anywhere, which works great for big groups. But the they will close off areas that are full. We always camp by the lake - pretty prime spot. A few folks get there early and claim space for all, but it was work trying to get our last guy in who showed up later on Friday because so many roads were blocked off. Didn't help that the place is confusing as hell, the maps are pretty much worthless, and he had never been there before.
On that note - getting there at night probably isn't a good idea, either. You will get lost.
Don't rub salt into my wounds requesting Lotus who is pretty much my favorite band in the world. ------- Monkybunney,
I saw the Dopapod Bonnaroo set (was my 3rd or 4th time seeing them), and while good, they played a little to the crowd. Expect more from them at Hulaween. Trust me on that. ------- Clarity 2,
Last year's run was great and a big improvement. The hanging LED lights were insane. Was dreading seeing them headline 3 fests until the Buku set. Then I was all in for Hangout and Waka 2014. That surprised me since I'm usually pretty blah about the Lips. ------ Free showers in VIP last year. Hmmm. I walked in and all the bathroom stalls were occupied. I about gagged so I found a faucet near the RV section. It was unbelieveBly cold last year for Bear Creek (was in mid November), but the ability to have open campfires (assuming there is no red flag warning this fall) made it bearable. Don't expect it to be too cold around Halloween, but nights in N FL can be chilly. -------- ucsoccer,
It's already a lineup I'd travel for, but Voodoo Fest is only about a mile or less from the house. We always have people in town for that, so I gotta stay put that weekend and pretty much all Halloweens. But we will be back to SoSMP soon.
For everyone else, we did VIP last Bear Creek. They have some accessible bars, free massages and camping right by the main gate. It wasn't shady, but we took a hill spot that was about 50-75 steps to the entrance. For everyone else, be careful who you "talk to." Any mushroom jokes by anyone on a 4 wheeler should be ignored. There are some stings but like everywhere else, don't be the low hanging fruit. You can pretty much do what you want within reason, but there are police and undercovers there. Just keep that in mind.
Primus will be playing Saturday the 31st at Monster Mash in Arizona. So, count Primus out for a Halloween set, unfortunately.
Yes, I was able to prepare for that sadness as quickly as possible thanks to discussion of that fest a couple days ago. Good news is Chance plays Sunday in New Orleans so he's still an option for Friday/Saturday (Halloween) and ODESZA only has a show Friday night so they're open for Saturday/Sunday.
