Interesting article on the new DA visiting Bonnaroo on Sunday, and arrest numbers. I think I actually recall seeing him on site. I'm curious how much the arrests jumped from previous years, and what all were actually for. Anyone have any information? Also I entered the East Toll Thursday morning, and saw cops pulling many cars out of line for more thorough searches. I know they've always done this, but I've never seen it to this extent.
"The citations are on pace with other years," said sheriff's spokesman Lucky Knott. "The arrests are up, probably very slightly."
I read that, but I could also see the sheriff's department trying to make it seem like there's not much of a difference, even though there may have been.
This is going to be fun...A lot of the sentiment I saw went like this:
"New DA is a total jackhole, the arrests will be through the roof" "They have a new jail to pay for the arrests and police on site will be insane" "The police state is REAL, police at unprecedented levels"
Now, if the numbers are indeed WAY up, these people will feel vindicated. If the numbers are way down they will claim the authorities are hiding the real numbers to not make Bonnaroo look bad.
The police presence seemed lower than in previous years. I saw even fewer cars pulled over outside of the venue than usual. If arrests/citations were up it wasn't by much.
a lot of people I talked to in pod 6 and 7 were all saying that undercover guys had been buying and busting a lot of people in the area, but honestly I didn't notice any real difference in police presence this year compared to other years. even someone I camped with actually got pulled over in rural tennessee and gave up his corn and they only wrote him a ticket for speeding.

That doesn't make any sense. "Elected official promises to be tough on crime, then lies about being tough on crime so people don't think he did the thing he promised to do"

was it those guys selling spiritual yoga books? lmao

I would imagine there's a happy medium to the relationship with this new DA and Bonnaroo. New DA claims arrests are up to keep locals happy, but then saying only slightly to keep festival attendees content. I'm not saying this sheriff is lying, but I'm going to take something with a grain of salt when the word "probably" is used in a statement.
34 Drugs Seized During Patrols On Interstate 24 In Bonnaroo Traffic
CREATED 3:33 PM MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Deputies in Rutherford County seized more than $9,000 worth of illegal drugs while patrolling Interstate 24 before Bonnaroo in Manchester.
Officials said the drugs included 37 hits of LSD, almost an ounce of cocaine, illegal mushrooms, and prescription pills.
The deputies were patrolling to help prevent crashes due to increased traffic to the festival.
“Our deputies did an outstanding job in making safety a top priority,” Sheriff Robert Arnold said.
A total of seven suspects were arrested, and 97 citations on drug violations were issued, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies also wrote four traffic citations and 125 warning citations.
The drugs were found through K-9 officers scanning 40 vehicles.
The horsey redshirts tried to trick their way into our Groop camp this year. Basically made up a bunch of stuff they said they saw and tried every dirty NYC cop trick in the book to gain access to the camp. I stone walled them for a while so they called roo security, and I told them that they'd have to call the actual police. They gave up after that

When I read this I thought they were going to say they found 2 oz of Marijuana in a vehicle on I-24

Bahaha, yeah, guy walked right up in our camp without being invited in and started pitching that nonsense. I called him Shiloh and he didn't get the Grandma's Boy reference which only made me laugh harder. He finally left once EVERYBODY had said they didn't wanna buy the books

This is a disturbing view on the stance towards festival "supplies" that live nation/Roo/New DA have adopted. What I got out of it was, take away the test kits and ppl won't take mysterious chemicals they bought off a stranger. That's like saying, stop giving away free condoms across college campuses and ppl won't have sex.
I've heard Shamabala (?) fest, held up in Canada, actually has a center that offers free testing. Think I need to renew my passport!
Also, let me say this, there were WAY more pics and they were much more intruding and forceful in the way they went about their duties. And yeah, the under overs were tearing up the dealers. I know multiple people that hit pretty hard

I was arrested in Virginia. They had fucking dogs. Got hit with a felony. Kinda sucks. I had a small amount. They were clearly targeting people going to Bonnaroo.

They always are targeting or on the lookout for people going to/coming from the festival. Either be smart and drive clean or don't make it obvious that you're going to a music festival. Keep the grateful dead bear stickers off the car for the trip and don't write "Bonnaroo or Bust" all over it if you have something you don't want to be found.
I have had and know about experiences on both sides (getting in trouble in another state going to Bonnaroo, getting in trouble in another state leaving from Bonnaroo) and both types of stops tend to have the cops mentioning/knowing about the big festival down south.

I never thought about dogs on a routine traffic stop! Should have known. I've never had a problem getting the small amount of stuff I have in. If anybody has any advice on this please let me know. I should be ok I think I'll just have to pay a fine and maybe community service but still a bit nervous.
I've gotten a bunch of low quality crap the last couple of years.. The hiding part doesn't seem hard I'd you're willing to turn a wrench. It's hiding the scent from those damn dogs that bothers me

I definitely have been watching too much House of Cards which would explain my previous comments.
I'd be nervous over a felony too. Get a lawyer. In my experience they always hit you with the worst and knock it lower and lower. It's really all about the money, and if you put some into the system . Hopefully you'll end up with a misdemeanor.
I knew about not writing "BONNAROO OR BUST" on your car, but on the way home Monday it was obvious who had just come from there given the large anounts of dust all over their cars. I'm suprised the cops didn't target them on the way home... I guess you should write "BONNAROO OR DUST" instead...

The first thing we did was go thru a car wash. I was surprised at how many vehicles I saw on the way back that still had a logo drawn on from security volunteers
