Jamie XX: Maybe a should have known, but I expected him to play Jamie XX songs, not just do a DJ set of the songs he sampled and a bunch of random music. It wasn't bad just not what I expected and ultimately wished I would have seen Sturgill
What the hell are you talking about?
Off the top of my head played some of I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times), Gosh, and I think he closed with Loud Places. I listened to him a bunch before Roo and didn't recognize most of the songs, that's all I'm saying.
I was pleased with every set I attended. I got kind of bored at Hiss Golden Messenger but that lead me to go check out the Punch Brothers at The Grind in the campgrounds. I'm sure if I had stayed around I would have enjoyed HGM.
you were at the punch brother secret show?! how the hell did I not see you there?

I actually said something to marcoolio during the show about wondering how many people were going to be confused by the show since they were expecting a live show.
woods. i listened to them quite a bit and was excited to see them, but it was a snoozefest and we couldn't make it through the whole show.
I really liked Woods, but it was also the part of the day where I needed/wanted to lay back in the grass and relax. I may have actually slept through part of it, but it was good times.

I didn't expect him to have a band or anything, just wish he would have played more of his own songs. All Under One Roof Raving was probably my most anticipated song of the whole festival, I figured he would find time to fit it into his 90 min set
Superjam. This thing used to be sheer magic, but this set just felt like a complete contrivance. There was no chemistry between the players, no fluidity from song to song, waaaay too much filler banter, and just a lazy concept for a show altogether.
It's unfortunate to hear allot of people were not impressed with the SuperJam. I'm disappointed because I didn't have an opportunity to make that decision myself, Bassnectar and Kalliope did that. I left after I was able to determine that the music had started and I wasn't going to be able to hear any of it. This turned out to be a good thing because I wound up at D'Angelo and The Vanguard and their performance was easily the second best set I saw this year.
Strand of Oaks. They were without their keyboardist and backup singer and replaced her with another guitarist. That was my least favorite of 4 Stand of Oaks shows
Interesting. I rather enjoyed the hell out of their show! This was the first time I'd seen them and I was not very familiar with all of their songs so I didn't really have any other Strand of Oaks experience to contrast this one with. If it was disappointing I didn't notice.
Woods was way more of a snoozer show then I expected it to be. It wasn't bad but I literally fell asleep. There were moments of King Gizz where it seemed like they weren't sure who was suppose to be doing something during a passage of music so they just kept repeating a phrase over and over and over again. Like someone was suppose to be playing a guitar solo or keyboards or filling it with weird noises SOMETHING! Depiste that I still LOVED LOVED LOVED this set! The MOST disappointing show was hands down Game of Thrones A/ 5 V/ -4. The video was on par with the shittiest rip you could find on Pirate Bay and watching it with Realplayer. The sound was way to low as well.

that may have been the problem for me. i should have just laid in the field, but i wanted to be under the tent to avoid the sun.

I started out in the shade of one of the trees, but the shade ran away from me partially during the show. I was already out by that point though, so I wasn't moving.

The only recordings I've found of his set were about an hour long. Can anyone link me to a full length one? And even in just listening to bits and pieces by skipping around, I can tell you that he played Sleep Sound like 3 minutes into the recording, so there's at least one more of his. Most times, his sets are heavily stacked with his own songs and his own remixes, so you'll get his solo tracks, his stuff with GSH, xx remixes, usually his remix of Bloom, sometimes he tosses in some of his older remixes like Adele, Florence + the Machine, Glasser, Falty DL, etc. It's almost always entirely his work though, unless he's specifically doing a mix (like his Home release for Mixmag from earlier this year).
yeah he played way more that just the 2 that passion pit pointed out. how he could forget jamie xx played gosh is beyond me. I about died at that point.

this one is an hour 15, not sure if it's the same one you have found already, but yea, he was awesome for sure, then sbtrkt was enjoyable to chill out for after https%3A//soundcloud.com/kopro/jamie-xx-live-at-bonnaroo-2015-tennessee-usa-13-june-2015-djdlorg

Billy Joel: I wasn't a fan at all, but I saw Tom Petty at a fest without knowing more than a song or two and enjoyed them FAR more. I concur that the high point was his roadie playing Highway to Hell. Made me wish AC/DC headlined over him. Was a near complete flop in my opinion, through no fault of the crowd.
Ben Folds: Been a huge fan and never able to catch him live due to skyrocketing ticket prices. He played maybe 2-3 hits (towards the end) and treated us to an expletive filled Waltz. I understand his whole schtick and he had a whole orchestra but my favorite thing he did was play Effington with the orchestra- that was fucking cool!
Fault of Bonnaroo
Florence + The Machine: Loved her set, although the sound popping issue took away some of the magic (honestly I was shocked during my first 'Roo that there were major sound issues/bleed). I also wished she played Cosmic Love and You've got the Love, but that's nitpicking. 1 Hour set?? And over an hour for Spoon??
Childish Gambino: Sound just wasn't loud enough on Which, heard "woo"ing from the crowd over his rap and it was as close as we could physically get.
Robert Plant: Sound bleed from G-Easy, wasted hour during prime-time.
Matoma: Absolutely killed it, a shame that they gave the guy a silent disco set instead of a stage.
Superjam!: Couldn't hear anything but nearby bass. I had fun at Kalliope but there's got to be a different place to put it.
21 Pilots: Kudos to being the only no-fun fest that wouldn't let the guy climb the stage. Double whammy for draining the crowd for 20 minutes in the hot sun.
-- I did like what I saw from Rustie (last 25 minutes of his set)
I, coincidentally, also fell asleep during Woods (on purpose?)
Jamie XX was a highlight for me, thought he killed it and the crowd was awesome

watched this on youtube last night, heard it from camp (due to heat) in pod 2. they put on a great show. glad i got to see him climb the stage in 2013 at least
earth wind and fire had the absolute worst which stage sound I have ever heard. maybe if I got closer it would have been better but you should really be able to hear the stage halfway back in that field. shit, I could hear bassnectar on it all the way from the ferris wheel.
also the superjam. this could be in part due to the fact that I thought this was the worst crowd I have ever been in at bonnaroo. I was towards the back right of the tent and it was just a constant flow of people moving in and out of the tent. there was a group of girls behind us who were fully intent on having a conversation the entire set. it took a lot of restraint to not rip the flower crowns off their heads and launch them to the back of the crowd (radiate positivity bruh). three people puked around my group. we were out of there after about an hour.
Superjam for me, too. Didn't connect with me. Lots of hectoring to show them more love. Didn't think the guy from Cherub had the choice for the songs he was singing. Thought Jamie Lidell was kind of goofy and of underwhelming talent for the songs he was singing. And Corey Feldman??????
That said, it was nice to see Chali2na and DMC is a legend.

yea we only stopped by on our way to flume but to hear "tricky" did it for me. that was sweet
Dej Loaf. Wish I had that 45 minutes back. Maybe I'm getting too old to relate, but it seemed like a big cluster to me.
This ^ I can't believe I actually ran from DMA's over to this show. That was awful. Not that I was expecting much, I thought she was a weird choice of rapper for Bonnaroo. But hey I like the song "Try Me", I thought maybe there was some more underground mixtape stuff I was just missing. I expected a bad DJ opening set, air horns, and stuff like that. I can get into some fun ignorant shit. But I took my friend there and I was so fucking embarrassed. I lost it when they stopped "Try Me" to play Trap Queen, an overplayed song by a completely unrelated artist to "hype up the crowd". I would have gladly taken iLoveMakonnen over this. But truth is they should have just booked Joey Badass.
The only other thing that disappointed me was Freddie Gibbs. He was so wasted because "it was his birthday". It got pretty annoying. I feel bad for Madlib having to constantly rewind his songs, because right as he was getting ready to play, Freddie Gibbs would just keep rambling. And how many times are we going to yell "fuck police". I mean that's cool up to like 10 times....but 10 times after every song is annoying. I wanted to stay to at least hear "Still Livin" off of GTA's soundtrack. But I just couldn't take anymore and left.
For some reason AWOLNATION just wasn't doing it for me. I was in the sun a lot and was pretty tired during their show, but it didn't seem very exciting.

I forgot about AWOLNATION sounding bad. Dudes voice is simply shot. Maybe too many shows but 4-5 songs in, I was out. I expected more from his vocals but the heat combined with him just not being able to hit the notes led to a qucik "let's get out of here" decision.

I really had my most consistent Roo ever - every set I saw was at least good. I loved the Superjam - the sound was great to the right side, away from the Kaliope stage and it wasn't even that crowded there. Always boggles my mind how people don't know how to maneuver around a tent/stage. The left side of What is always empty. And the crowd at the Superjam by me was amazing - best dance party crowd of the weekend. Everyone was just dancing like crazy.
I guess I was a little disappointed by Ben Harper - he wasn't bad by any means but I expected him to be one of my fav sets of the fest and he wasn't. I think his set was just too short. He usually plays double the time he got.
Bassnectar - all his new stuff sounds the same and it just isn't half as good as his old stuff. I had a friend warn me that his shows nowadays aren't the awesome experience they used to be, but it had never seen nectar so I had to do so now that I finally got the chance to do so. I regret it with every bone in my body. I wish I had gone to D'Angelo's love making fest. After I finally accepted that Bassnectar just wasn't any good, a few friends and I walked over to the superjam....
The Superjam - the Superjam was alright, not nearly as good as the hip hop and Jim James ones I attended in 2013, but it was fun to sing along to some classic songs at a once in a lifetime show. So, while the Superjam didn't live up to my past experiences, that would've been fine IF Bassnectar didn't continue to ruin my night with his sound bleed, haha. So, my only big problems with the Superjam were the Which ruining the sound and the fact that they didn't have the screen on.
Billy Joel - my only problem with this was the ending, so abrupt, so strange

Ooooh, that remix of Loud Places that Jamie xx did close to the end was enough to push that into my top 5. I don't see how anyone who is even only a slight fan of the genre could have been disappointed at that one. The whole set was a raging party.
I dunno. I saw Monie there but she didn't have a voice. I saw abrakapokus' Snap from the show later and missed her inside The Grind in real time also. It was packed in there and I hung on the outside of the building for the most part, watching for awhile through a window.
Since there's a best show thread, I'll be the negative one and create the bizzaro version of that thread.
Billy Joel - I love classic rock, but I could never get into Billy Joel other than "Piano Man." This was his chance to make me a fan. It was not successful. The best part of the show was when his roadie sang "Highway To Hell."
Pallbearer - I really like their album, but I wasn't feeling their show. The first two songs sounded exactly alike since the bass was so loud. I left after 15 mins to see Brownout instead. I made the right choice to leave.
Glass Animals - First of all, I was under "The Other Tent" so I could hear and see perfectly. Half the show, the singer was muffled by the instrumentals. Either his mic was too low, or the bass was too high. This wasn't a bad show, but it could have been much much better if they were on a bigger stage with a better mixed sound.
Rustie - Ehhhhh wasn't feeling it. His songs got annoying and so did the samples of a wolf howling and of the Zelda skull kid laughter. He used those two sound effects way too much.
Robert Plant - For shame Bonnaroo for having your notorious "Which Stage" sound problems during a legend's set. I could not hear him at all, esp. with that damn G-Eazy bass raping my ears from "This Tent." I left for Caribou which turned out to be one of my favorite sets of the weekend.
Just to let ya'll know, the other 35+ shows I went to were amazing.
WE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE G-EAZY NOISE TOO DURING ROBERT PLANT! We kept having to move closer to hear. It's like g-eazy was so loud, and robert plant was turned down. Sucked really bad.
This pissed my whole group off so much during Going To California.

Jai Wolf - HOLY SHIT, this almost ruined my saturday night. the volume on kalliope was about half level, the mixing was non existent, and the track selection could have been my ipod. also due to the fact the a couple of people in my group were hyping him to the moon.
Billy Joel - the setlist, performance, and early end time kinda killed the vibe. though I had a great time all things considered.
Mac DeMarco - maybe it was the fact that Barnett's amazing crowd became 1000% more bro-ed out (likely from the Tove Lo contingent). maybe it was the fact that I was pushing 40 hours on no sleep. either way, wasn't feeling it as much as I wanted to.
also some of yall need to research these artists a bit more, jeeeez
